Hi,

each year since 2013 Thomas Müller and me organize the anual OS/2 User Meeting in Cologne. This yeat it is scheduled for December, the 12th 2020.

Because of the Corona Virus the planned Warpstrock Europe 2020 in May in Frankfurt has been cancelled.

So Thomas Müller and me thougt we may combine thes two events this December in Cologne.

We are aware and it is completly clear to us that no one knows what will be the situation like then because of the Corona Virus in December.

But we asked at the Youth Hostel in Cologne and it would be possible to reserve the room for Friday, the 11th of December as well. We would organize the event as well, but it may be not that high quality as former Warpstock Europe.

What are your thoughts?

We are in a very early stage of this idea and want to collect opinions and pro and contras from YOU!

So what is your opinion, have your say, please. Thank you very much.

We would extend the meeting up to two days, so

instead of only 12th of Decmeber the event would take place on two days, 11th and 12th of December.

Thanks for sharing your opinion!!

We wish you, despite all problems, happy Easter!

Thomas and Sigurd

Hardware / Easy check: can ArcaOS be installed on this Lenovo Laptop?
« on: December 05, 2019, 08:15:33 am »
There is a very good and easy test, wether or not ArcaOs can be installed on a Lenovo Laptop.

Till now this has to meet at least three specifications:

- Secure Boot can be turned off

- CSM is still there / Legacy boot

- USB 2.0 support

with this:

https://download.lenovo.com/bsco/index.html?clickid=wK-xjRTf%3AxyJWOiwUx0Mo3EzUkn3ai2LB1Ys3g0&Program=3786&pid=269814&acid=ww:affiliate:74clty&cid=de:affiliate:xg02ds

Lenovo BIOS Simulator

one can check all this before ordering hardware. That is pretty need.

My observation is, that there is no Lenovo model since the 5th Intel core-i generation, that has inbuild USB 2.0 support. That stresses the need for the USB 3.0 driver.

I attach some pictures for my next hardware test, the Lenovo Yoga 12.

During our user meeting Yesterday we had by surprise the pleasure to install an ArcaOS Alpha Version with UEFI support on the Lenovo X250 Laptop in UEFI mode!

It was a very (very!) promising Installation!

For more information please use Online Translator and look here:

Events / User Meeting Cologne 2019: win a Thinkpad X250!
« on: November 05, 2019, 11:39:14 am »
During this years User Meeting in Cologne on 30th of November attendents have the possibility to win a Thinkpad X250!

This is an i7-5600u Model with 8GB RAM, 256SSD, WWAN etc etc and meanwhile well supported by ArcaOS (see other Threads regarding the X250).

It is in VERY (Accus very well, and no bumps or scratches) good shape, but - for international users - it does have an DE (German) Keyboard Layout.

During the Meeting one can buy a ticket and somenone else will then pull the winner. There are 20 Tickets alltogether, each 10 Euro. The money collected will be directly transferred to BWW for the QT sponsoring.

Hardware / UNIAUD Update: Thinkpad X250 - The Perfect ArcaOS Laptop
« on: October 01, 2019, 08:31:59 am »
Thanks to Abwillis1 (Bugtracker 2637) Sound is now working on the Thinkpad X250 (and evtl. some more other models) including Volume Control!

AbWillis1 writes i.e.:

With unitest1, I see that the speaker playback volume is 0.
With unitest1:
unimix -id1 -val87 -cnt0
unimix -id1 -val87 -cnt1

These can be added to startup.cmd if they produce sound like they look like they should.

So, The Thinkpad X250 is one of the recommended ArcaOS Laptops now, as there is:

- ArcaOS can be installed from USB Stick (BIOS settings needed)
- there is still USB 2.0 support with this Laptop
- FullHD Resolution is working
- LAN is working
- about 2.9 GB of RAM is visible, RAM Disk is working
- Sound is working with this patched UNIAUD (attached)
- DOS and WINOS2 are working (without DOS window) with the VIOP Patch

-> so I can start my ArcaOS Channel using this Hardware then!

All the congrats and credits to abwillis1 and the ArcaOS Team for geiving help, advice and support via the Bugtracker!

@ Blondeguy: can you test it with the T450s as I do not have this hardware anymore?
I will test it with the Thinkpad 25 as well.

EDIT: I deleted the uni file as I do not know by now if it is allowed to chare it or if it is due to softwaresubscriptions regulations not allowed.

Hardware / For your Eyes only......
« on: September 24, 2019, 04:36:18 pm »
Here are the two Kings of my OS/2 related Hardware collection.

The Thinkpad 701c Butterfly (1995) and the Thinkpad 25 Anniversary Laptop (2017), both running nativ OS/2 Warp.

Both are good begin and end points (so far) for "my OS/2 Time" from 1995 to 2019. Guess the Thinkpad 25 (aka T470) is some kind of Final Frontier for me when it comes to OS/2 on modern Hardware "Nativ"  ::)

Setup & Installation / And it works! DOS and WINOS2 on Thinkpad X 250!
« on: September 03, 2019, 01:48:03 pm »
While I am playing around with the Thinkpad X250 I realizide by accident:

I am wondering, I just took a look again at Bug report 1193 in Bugtracker, and on August 20th 2019 David added a file called vio-1.0.wpi and now:

- DOS Fullscreen
- WINOS2 Fullscreen
- WINOS2 windowed

are working on the X250, even in SMP Mode!!

- DOS Windowed mode takes no input (does only show  :/ )
- DOS Windowed mode switched from DOS Fullscreen with Alt+Home starts very slow and freezes after a fiew inputs

It took some seconds more during booting, but it works!

BUT PLEASE NOTICE: It is mentioned in the readme, that it might not work on each and any Hardware!!

Wonder, why this is not mentioned elsewhere!! Great!!

And a question: is it possible to spread this file to other people or is it somehow restricted?

Polls / ArcaOS Youtube Channel - Suggestions, Advice, Critics welcome!
« on: August 07, 2019, 08:25:07 am »
As said elsewhere I plan to start the ArcaOS Youtubechannel by the end of this month. I already grabbed the name ArcaOS for it.

I am already in contact with ArcaNoae LLC to coordinate with them and to avoid legal issues right from the beginning.

It will be no official ArcaNoae LLC channel, it will be a "Made by User for User" channel.

Each and any critic/information/advice is welcome!!

My intention or plan is like this:

- there will be several videos with allways one topic

- each video will be a maximum of 5 Minutes

- no spoken comment, "only text" - english (maybe in german as well)

I will start like this:

001 - What is ArcaOS in 5 Minutes

002 - BIOS Requirements

003 - Hardware Requirements

004 - How to build the USB Installation Stick media

...

Each video will have a number at the beginning of the descriptions and a hint, wich version of ArcaOS is used (will be 5.04 so far). So in the future I may replace those videos with newer ArcaOS versions.

I would like to upload the first videos already in August, so this month.

This is and will be allways "work in progress", so your ideas, critics and so on are allways welcome!

Once there is more progress I will give an information here in this thread as well.

Thanks for your attention!
