Hi Dave,

Thanks again Paul... this new lsusb works just fine. I have also got your latest SANE working with Tame too - very nice! Think I'll push the envelope and see if I can get saned working and scan remotely...8-)

Cool - great to hear! IIRC your printer is connected to a print server and not USB connected?

When I try 'lsusb -v'  I get an error: lsusb: 'cannot open "/extras/share/usb.ids", No such file or directory', and indeed there isn't. I do have usb.ids in C:\ecs\bin. I am able to scan with my Epson 2480 photo scanner, thanks!

With https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/76425158/lsusb-20130526.zip it should look in %OS_DIR%\bin for usb.ids.  eCS sets OS_DIR to ?:\ECS, and installs usb.ids into \ecs\bin.

non eCS users can set OS_DIR to x:\OS2 and place usd.ids into x:\OS2\bin

For the next drop of lsusb, I'll try make it look in the default ecs location for usb.ids.

Glad your scanner works still :)

Cheers,

A test version of scanimage (needs the full Sane 1.0.23 package from post 1) that uses libusb10.dll is at http://smedley.id.au/tmp/scanimage-20130525.zip This isn't working on my LIDE20 :(

Added libusb 1.0 to my site at http://smedley.id.au/os2ports_new/index.php?page=libusb-1-0

It is now implemented as a DLL.

lsusb has also been added to that site as an example application that uses libusb10.dll

Future builds of Sane, CUPS and hplip will all use this DLL to provide support for USB devices.

Hi RBRi

did some test with my epson scanner.

device `plustek:libusb:001:001' is a Epson Perfection 1250/Photo flatbed scanner
device `test:0' is a Noname frontend-tester virtual device
device `test:1' is a Noname frontend-tester virtual device

The scanner is detected and a simple color scan has produced a tiff. Looks good so far.
Do you need anything more to be tested?

Not really - the main thing I need is to confirm it is working as well as the previous Sane builds - it's good confirmation that libusb-1.0 is reasonably feature complete, which is a relief - as I spent way too much time on the port (most of it caused by my lack of programming skills :P)

Hi Ivan,

A little more information.  I copied scanimage over to the tame directory and almost everything that worked with the old scanimage works with your new one - except sizing an area in the preview window.  I can size an area and it shows up as it did but scanimage scans the whole area regardless.  If this can be fixed, good, if not it just means cropping in PMView - one extra stage which will only be a big deal if I have a lot of scans to crop.

This is pretty strange - I doubt the command line syntax has changed - it certainly hasn't been caused by the libusb changes....

Might we worth enabling tame logging to see what command line it's passing to scanimage.

FWIW I just tested with a HP Deskjet 2050 and scanning works via USB with this device too.

Yes, send me the output of scanimage -help -d hpaio://....... and I've have a crack at updating scanner.dat

Mine using this test.cmd:

set beginlibpath=c:\sane\lib;
set SANE_DEBUG_MUSTEK_USB=255
set SANE_DEBUG_SANEI_USB=255
set sane_config_dir=\sane\etc\sane.d
scanimage -v  >output.pnm 2>debugoutput.txt

return debugoutput.txt in attachment and a size 0  output.pnm
output.pnm came from  scanimage > output.pnm (your last with libusb logging enable)
Regards

Same as before:
libusb: 0.001000 debug [os2_get_device_list] 0 devices detected

Which is weird, as you can see the scanner with scanimage -L and with lsusb

Seems there is something weird with USB or usbcalls on your system

Any change of a debug log from 1.0.22? Might also be worth sending you a scanimage.exe with libusb logging enabled....
I have attached the relevant portion of the debugoutput.txt from 1.00.22.
Yes, please send me a scanimage.exe with libusb logging enabled.

HI Gabriele,

C:\sane>hp-mkuri -b 1 -d 3
hp:/usb/Photosmart_C4100_series?serial=MY759J14HV04J7
hpaio:/usb/Photosmart_C4100_series?serial=MY759J14HV04J7

(it's an old Photosmart C4180 AllInOne). Tested a couple of colour scans and works fine, thanks a lot!!!
Can someone suggest me a good frontend for scanimage? Is Tame still a good option or something QT-based appeared in the meantime?

By the way (and knowing that I'm going against the flow): root directory is becoming a bit crowded with \cups, \gs, \gutenprint and now \hplib and \sane around, would be great being able to install CUPS and Sane with RPM :-)

Per the readme, hplip doesn't need to be in root.  Edit %ETC%\hplip.conf and move it wherever you like. Likewise, I'm certain /sane doesn't need to be in root.

For printing to your C4100, are you using hplip or gutenprint? I'll try get the hplip printing backend from 3.13.3 put together over the weekend - then you could remove /gutenprint too.

For frontends, I think Tame is still the best bet, although you'll need an updated scanner.dat. I'm not aware of any Qt Sane frontends.

Thanks for testing!

Paul

The log shows: [genesys] attach: found Canon flatbed scanner LiDE 210 at libusb:001:001
I don't seen any scan attempt. What command line was used?

I used d:\sane23\scanimage -L >output.pnm 2>debugoutput.txt

Quote
To try a scan, just try: scanimage > output.pnm

[D:\sane23]scanimage > output.pnm
scanimage: open of device genesys:libusb:001:001 failed: Invalid argument

That failed so I used:

@echo off
setlocal
set beginlibpath=d:\sane23\lib;
set SANE_CONFIG_DIR=d:\sane23\etc\sane.d
set SANE_DEBUG_GENESYS=255
set SANE_DEBUG_SANEI_USB=255
rem - d:\sane23\scanimage -L >output.pnm 2>debugoutput.txt
d:\sane23\scanimage >output.pnm 2>debugoutput.txt
endlocal
exit

This gives "sanei_usb_control_msg: libusb complained: Input/output error" always at the same spot when I try again after unplug/replug of the scanner. This is different from your earlier sane-1.0.22-os2-20120131.zip product which allows me to actual obtain a scan.

Interesting. Any change of a debug log from 1.0.22? Might also be worth sending you a scanimage.exe with libusb logging enabled....

Hi All,

As a result of my port of libusb-1.0 to OS/2, I have now managed to scan using USB with a HP Photosmart 7510 multi-function device.

An experimental build of hpaio.dll is now available from http://smedley.id.au/tmp/hpaio-3.13.3-os2-20130517.zip

I can successfully scan using both the network and usb connections.

Please read the readme.os2 for details on how to configure this.

Cheers,

Paul

Hi Ivan,

using scanimage --mode color --resolution 300 I got the attached output - converted to jpg to take up less space.

Using --format tif produces the expected tif file output and all the resolutions work

I used the page I did because it represents the type of pages I have to copy and sometimes OCR.  In fact I'm quite pleased with the results, thank you.

I notice there are a lot of options in the epson2 backend listed as [inactive], will any of these be made active in the future?

Thanks for the feedback. IN terms of the [inactive] options in the epson2 backend, that's a question for the Sane guys - I jsut pored it to OS/2 :)

Cheers,

Paul.
