Hi David.

I found the way to show the PNG icons on the "Tree View", but not on the "Details View". Is that a limitation of the "Dynamic Icons" or the Workplace Shell?

Regards
Martin, I am no expert, but my guess it is a workplace shell limitation at this time.  Rich had said WPShell was a mess, but he was only able to fix a small amount while he worked for ArcaNoa.

is there a way to change the standard background in folders from white to an image (*.bmp).
Changing each folder manually would be much work ...

This should work for most backgrounds that do not use a bitmap or PNG image.

Archive your Desktop before starting.  That way you have a way to restore your desktop back to this point.

Open the system setup folder
Open the Appearance folder
Open the mixed color palette

Select your color
Hold the alt key while dragging the color you selected to one of the open window backgrounds.

To my knowledge, there is no way to make an image the default for all the folders.

Hello David.

I liked this one too. Just two question here:
1) What is the arrow.gfie file?
2) Checking the "Buff themes", do you also include the folder backgrounds? I think I only found the icons, not the backgrounds.

Regards

Arrow.gfie ia another type of graphics file.  The file is not used.  I just failed to remove it.  A lot of these themes don't come with backgrounds.  I noticed in linux that they use a lot of dark backgrounds.  There is one background file that goes good with the last two themes.  The last three themes I have done are unique in that most icons have to be redone so the themes don't look like a mess.  It like starting from scratch because most icons have to be renamed, modified or created to match our programs and system.

The drawingboard theme was unique that it came with two backgrounds.  This theme somehow disappeared from the net.  There are partials of people trying to recreate it, but not the original that was on the net over 10 years ago.  If had had not created a version for ecomstation years ago, there would not be much to look at.  It was done in OS/2 icons.  I made PNG equivalents, added more icons that were not included in the original eCS package.

Drawingboard, Umicons, and Buff themes are a way to preserve these themes should they disappear from the net.  In eCS, one could modify just about everything, titlebar, titlebar buttons, buttons, selection buttons, and property backgrounds.  ArcaOS allows some, but not all of this.

Made a quick titlebar and button for Buuf.

the last png shows the background color which is used for its backgrounds.

Martin, you ariticle is spot on.  Still valid.  Using the DFSee script option makes everything easy.

I can no longer get newly bought USB flash drives to work under ArcaOS 5.1.  In the past, I used the reformat.exe tool from the Essentials Package.  Its license expired.  I have tried formatting with ArcaOS and DFSee to no avail. I always get unknown drive after formatting in Windows or DFSee.  I have to admit I am guessing when using DFSee to format the drives.   What I find strange is both Windows and DFSee recognize it as a fat32 drive, but ArcaOS does not.

My question is what are the proper steps to get properly formatted FAT32 working drives under ArcaOS?

I did another system folder icon set.  Just unzip and copy to the theme folder that you want the system icons replaced.  Remember the other packages in case if you want the originals back.

Latest screensaver at ftp://dry@ftp.os2voice.org/dssaver_v25_19_02_2024.exe, password your email address.
This has a bunch of various fixes, thanks to Rich for many and Alfredo for help updates and help with the wic.
Hopefully close to done besides more translations.
You may want to adjust the Desktop Properties size to look better, best to do it with the Modules tab open.

Dave, this link does not work, at least for me.

What is needed to extract icons from dll files?   There was one theme I did in 2009, but can not not locate the icons anymore.  It was another very unusual theme, stick figures.

I'd just like to comment:

I bought eComstation 2.1 before some couple of years before ArcaOS. When I eventually got ArcaOS, the first thing I did was migrate eSchemes and a few other programs that came with ECS - although if I recall correctly, it's called ThemeMGR in the installation files. For any who may be curious, it's worked perfectly for me across multiple releases of 5.0.x and now 5.1.

What were your steps to migrate eSchemes from eCS to ArcaOS?

Martin, I think that was for Warp 3 which might explain odd results if you are running it on Warp 4 or its derivative.
I believe desktop wizard expanded the screen to something bigger than what you could actually see.

I agree with you. No one else has stated that Firefox or seamonkey was crashing for no apparent reason. As stated earlier, it could depend on the hardware.  I have installed ArcaOS multiple times on my laptop, and every time after,  Firefox would start crashing for no apparent reason. I was having to go to windows more often for internet.  It has only been two days, but so far no crashes.  I will continue to see what happens.  I need to see what happens in the next weeks.  I would say this is a tip for anyone that might be having the same problem to try.
