Hi Joop

By any chance do you have the older JDiskReport that used to work with OS/2 ?

I found it: http://www.rbri.org/projects/jdiskreport/

Thanks Dave

I will keep experimenting with XFree86-OS2. Since I already told you that it is the first time that I had made it run after all this time using OS/2.

Any tips are welcome, for example how to take screenshots, or if there is a way to have icons or somekind of launcher there.

To start programs, IIRC
Code: [Select]
start /n program
In an xterm or on the OS/2 desktop
Code: [Select]
start /n program -display 0:0

I didn't get that? Do you mean I can run a XFree86 program directly from the OS/2 Command line? (without launching x first?)

Hi

Just in case I created the "ONE HUGE FILE OF WARP GAMES", where I put all the OS/2 native games (open source, shareware, freeware) I was able to get and organize them alphabetically. It is a 1.33GB size file, it may not make sense, but nothing makes sense these days :)

Not everything is working, and it may not be complete, some icons are missing, maybe there are thing that you will not like, but feedback is welcome to improving it.

Hi

I'm testing some games like xkobo and xgalaga and I get errors like:
Quote
xkobo: (warning) can't read score-file X:/XFree86/lib/x11/xkobo/0

The path is wrong since I'm just putting the bin on X:\usr\X11R6\bin.  Is this some configuration thing? or the path was hard coded on xkobo  when compiled?

Hi

I really hope that libcn0 get from the experimental repo to the standard repo soon, since it was already launched and announced to the public. I think it will be good to use libcn0 since it what bitwise are going to focuse from now on.

Just in case, to configure the netlabs-exp repository it is required "yum install netlabs-exp"

Hi Dave

It seems it worked by using your files. This is what I did.
1) I unziped the XFree86 files with the two fixes from netlabs. I add them on my  "x:\usr". X:\ is my primary partition on the ArcaOS machine I have.  I found a conflict on x:\etc\fonts\fonts.conf. I just leave the newer one from my system and did not used the one from XFree86.
2) Copied Dave's XF86Config to x:\usr\x11R6\X11
3 ) Copied Dave's xfEnvSetup.cmd to the root and modified it with my drive and trying to point direcctly to the paths (sorry but I don't get the %1 thing)
4) Added to my config.sys path "x:\usr\X11R6\bin;" and to the libpath "x:\usr\X11R6\lib;"
5) Added to the config.sys file "DEVICE=X:\usr\X11R6\lib\xf86sup.sys"
Reboot
Run the xfEnvSetup.cmd and see the X interface running.

I'm attaching the modified just in case someone wants to try it out.

Now I need to learn how to run some games, tools and take some screenshots.
Thanks Dave for helping me with this, I wanted to run XFree86 since long time ago.

Hi

I'm trying to run Drilling Billy on OS/2, the native version (os2billy.exe), under an OS/2 full screen session, and I'm getting this error.
Quote
Vesa ikke initialiseret.fatalfejl
engine.exit without initCEngine::exit() completed succesfully.

Here is the source:

Any tip or idea is welcome.

Thanks
I will give it a try again, only in real hardware.

This is the latest version, right? http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/h-browse.php?dir=/pub/os2/system/x11/XFree86/v3.3.1
Correction: I found the last one is 3.3.6, right? (Archived WebSite)

I'm using Panorama on my real hardware machine (Intel HD Graphics 3000), which will be the file of the VESA driver?

Hi

One of my frustrations is that I was never able to run the X11 GUI from XFree86-OS/2.

Is it possible to run it under ArcaOS today inside a Virtual Machine? Or is it require some specific hardware?
I want to give it try, nothing specific, I want to try some software that was ported to it as a curiosity.

Hi

I'm not sure if I can talk about what is going on inside the AN test mailing list in detail, I don't want to get kicked out. I just can say that I remain optimist about USB 3 also.

About: [Arca Noae] Arca Noae progress report: ArcaOS on UEFI-only hardware

Hi

Very good news. It is great to see finally (referring to the old Mensys/XEU days) some progress for the present of the platform. Even that UEFI support is still on very early stage, it is good to see that something has started, I'm looking forward to test that on the future.

I'm on the "Arca Noae Test" mailing list and even that I don't contribute as much as I would like to, I really see that things are moving to release Arca Noae 5.0.4 and the progress for the localization releases for ArcaOS 5.1. There is a lot of details on each update and a lot of movement there.

As you can see, today I'm very optimistic about the platform. Remember that ArcaOS 5.0.0 was released on May 15, 2017, and it had eclipsed any eComStation functionality in only one year. I really hope that after the ArcaOS 5.1 launch with local languages support, Arca Noae can focus more on the present of the platform (drivers, drivers, drivers) and also start thinking on the long term future (component replacement, API improvement, WPS improvements, growing the user base and more bold things).

Hi Mathias

I think was just thinking the same thing. We should do the testing and discussion on how to run the DOS game on the forum, but we should finish the testing with some document/table/summary/Setting. It does have to be complex, but something that summarize the procedure to make it work.

I don't know how to share the DOS setting as an attachment. What do you have in mind? Post something to try it out and I will see what is the best way to organize it.

Hi Dave

I have an issue with Barrage on hobbes:
barrage-1.0.4.zip / Zip File, 929.6 KB / 2019/02/25

I can not run it. I got an error that "loading k:\tmp\barrage... Couldn't open k:\tmp.."

Can you please check if any chance the path is hardcoded in any way?
