So an M.2 SSD can be SATA-based, PCIe-based with NVMe support, or PCIe-based without NVMe support. An M.2 SSD with NVMe support offers up to five times more bandwidth than SATA M.2 models, bringing better performance in key tasks, such as file transfers, video or photo editing, transcoding, compression and decompression. So which is yours?

Ivan, I disagree. The fact you can install with out issue to a NVMe drive is pretty important. That and there sre specialized installs for the audio drivers. Sometimes it is a little upgrade that is why the .00 designation. But It is up to you.

My one upgrade did not go well. The full clean install on a new computer did. Other problems no QT5 apps would run. Firefox Seamonkey and Thunderbird would not run And Apache Open Office as well.

Doug, It is your money, it is your decision. Just like it is my money and it is my decision.

Well it would keep Arca Noae running. 5.08 installed on my systems. By the way. but I am going to upgrade. Just having a non buggy way to install with a NVMe is worth a lot to me.

Communication / Arca OS 5.08
« on: June 14, 2023, 02:30:57 pm »
I do have to say that I am very impressed with Arca Noae's Arca OS 5.08. A successful clean install on a Asus X570 Mother board.  was one thing. but playing with the OS and checking out things are they are in the new format has made me decide to rebuild rather than take a backup and upgrade, Great Job Arca Noae. I can hardly wait to see how 5.1 runs.

Well I got a clean install on my Asus motherboard. Key one is do remove the /VM. The other is just in case pull the ARCA OS usb stick during the 2nd phase. I pulled the Arca OS USB stick out as far as it would go and still be in the slot so all I had to do was push it in when the desktop came up.Worked lke like a charm. Thank you Mr. Pringle.

David, That is my impression that the update did not update some of the dlls with it. but that does not explain the Filestar and Unimaint being unable to boot, which are native OS/2 applications. My next move is to attempt the install to a NVME drive. It will be native on the same machine that I installed 5.07 to. I wil keep this drive in the system if successful and rebuild.

Well as far as the upgrade went to my AsRock B450 HDV turned out to be far less than perfect. Thunderbird wil not run, Oen Office will not run, Filestar and Unimaint wil not run Dooble wil not run. I am goig back to 5.07 for the time being. Back up back up back up.

On fresh installs on all my B550 based boards I get through the Ist phase and then it rebooted and the screen is dark with a blinking cursor in the upper left side.

IMHO since there is a downtrend predicted by many economic forecasters. I would consider if I were Arca Noae. of holding off on Arca OS 5.07 support to prioritize deployment Arca OS 5.1. Just my 2 cents.

I don't think that was read correctly. Here is the CPU support comment..."Intel Pentium Pro or higher, or an AMD K6 or higher. 64 Bit CPUs are supported (however ArcaOS will run in 32-bit mode). Computers with ARM CPUs are not supported. The Vortex86 CPU is not sufficiently compatible to run ArcaOS and is not supported."
