Hi Dan

Was there an OS/2 version? V3.5 for DOS seems to be available here  https://winworldpc.com/product/powerbasic/3x

Hi Dan

Could the changes to ibmworks.cmd suggested by Lars be where the extra "\" shown in error.png comes from?

Hi Dan

It is many years since I last installed/used ibmworks...
Looking through this discussion I have to ask if you have followed the instructions provided by Lars?

Hi Dan

The error.png image looks like it has the answer: the file D:\\bpbase.rsp is not found

Something - possibly within the ibmworks.cmd used - is setting \bpbase.rsp to \\bpbase.rsp and causing the problem.

Internet / Mypal68: A possible alternative browser?
« on: July 19, 2025, 02:03:18 pm »
Hi All

While browsing osnews.com I saw this:-

Mypal68: Firefox 68, maintained for Windows XP
Thom Holwerda 2025-07-17 Mozilla, Gecko 9 Comments

Do you have a Windows XP retro virtual machine or, god forbid, run Windows XP on your primary machine? You’re going to need a sort-of up-to-date browser, and it turns out Mypal68 offers just that. Terrible name aside, it’s Firefox 68 ported to and maintained to run on Windows XP SP3; SP2 and lower are not supported, but some people do seem to have some success getting it to run on those.

There are issues, of course: there’s a 1.5GB memory limit, and the browser will crash when it reaches that limit, and 64bit builds simpy don’t work at all, so there’s only a 32bit build. Version 74.1.0 was released a few days ago, but that version number doesn’t actually mean the browser is now based on Firefox 74; they had to change the reported version number for extension compatibility.

Could "a sort-of up-to-date browser" currently "maintained for WindowsXP" be of interest to us OS/2 users?

Would it be easier to port than Dooble + qt5/6?

If any of our "Mozilla experts" fancy taking a look: https://codeberg.org/Theodor2/Mypal68

Article Discussions / Re: Games with older SDL and FSLIB

Hi Martin

If you can recompile any of the games without the need for SDDHELP$ it would make those games playable on systems using panorama driver. I suspect it would need a lot of work though...

Hi Martin

Sometimes opening the Text Editor by doubleclicking a text document re-initialises the mouse pointer.

Hi Remy

I selected the first result in the google search which was https://archive.org/details/pinball_flash_202310

Looking at the file list using the Show All option on the above page I see that it contains pinball.swf

This package also contains an swf file https://archive.org/details/critter-pinball_flash

I'll let you rummage through the other google results  :-)

hi Remy

You will find some flash pinball games using this google search
https://www.google.com/search?sca_esv=0619bf7b847f9363&q=pinball+game+adobe+flash&oq=pinball+game+adobe+flash&aqs=heirloom-srp..

No idea if any of them work as I do not have flash or odin installed.

Hi TZhivkov

I doubt if there are any... I have never found a working OS/2 based pinball game.

I think this is simply because the existing DOS games can be played without problems using the OS/2 built in DOS support - or DOSBox can be installed.

I use DOSBox to play Epic Pinball and Pyscho Pinball - probably 2 of the best pinball games around - simply because current audio devices tend to need the uniaud driver which does not have sound support for DOS sessions.

Hi Martin

Well, I guess that is a bit more friendly than throwing them into the sea - but not as much fun  ;-)

Hi Mentore

Well I may agree with that, but... Isn't the sea already polluted enough? ;-) 8-)

Mentore

You should be more worried about them corrupting the sea life ...

I suspect that most politicians will biodegrade without problems and thus become useful - feeding the fishes  ;-)

Hi All

Had a few days break last week in St. Leonards-On-Sea (town adjoining Hastings - 1066 and all that) where I spent the formative years of my childhood during the early 1960's.

When my wife saw the sign in the attached image - which is in public view on the cliff top warning rail on Hastings West Hill next to the castle - she burst out laughing and said "Now I understand your political views".

Hi andreas

Have you tried running H:\sys\install\WARPIN.CMD (change H to match your system) - may need the /R parameter and your AN install media loaded.

Setup & Installation / Re: Cannot update cups
« on: May 24, 2025, 04:40:10 am »
Hi Lars

For future reference you can "kill" cupsd.exe to stop/close cups but you need to repeat the "kill" several (3?) times.

You can restart cups by doubleclicking the CUPS Daemon in the Startup folder.
