Hardware / Re: Snap Vs Panorama - Refresh rate problem.
« on: December 20, 2020, 07:30:58 pm »
I assume you got this list from ecomstation.ru ? That list is extremely outdated.
Yep, that's were I got it So does Panorama support the highest available refresh rate? (since when I installed with Panorama it doesn't list any refresh rate under the screen application).

I think the motherboard is semi modern (Gigabyte GA-EP35-DS3L). I used the older graphics card since I found it in a database for compatibility. Using a xeon dual core cpu with ACPI installed.
So should I use Panorama?

Wow you are the os/2 master :).
It worked.
So is it ok to run like that as a permanent change - meaning installing that didn't mess anything up with arcaos going forward?
(It did complain about old files like you said).

Thanks for the help!

Hmm. The command reports it sets the refresh rate - but when you reboot it doesn't actually stick.
I'm wondering if the command needs to run before the snap driver loads at boot - not sure how I would do that though. I tried making a startup.cmd file but that loads after the OS starts up.

Hardware / Snap Vs Panorama - Refresh rate problem.
« on: December 20, 2020, 08:32:25 am »
I'm running an old Radeon X300 graphics card, with a CRT monitor. I used snap since it seems to support refresh rates instead of Panorama, which doesn't seem to?
I found an article about Panorama below which seems to confirm it doesn't work with refresh rates.

But my problem is when I go into monitor settings using snap, the refresh rate supports up to 85hz and allows me to switch to it, but whenever the computer reboots it goes back to 60hz.
Is there a way to make it stay on 85hz - like a manual entry in config.sys or something?

Thanks for any advice.

Q13: What are the restrictions/disadvantages of Panorama VESA?
A13: Disadvantages of Panorama VESA:
       * no 2D acceleration
       * no overlay support => slow fullscreen movies
       * no refresh rates => the driver is unusable for CRT monitors
       * requires CPU + memory
       * Widescreen is possible for ATOM BIOS and Intel only
          (read about Panorama widescreen activator)
       * No portrait mode (rotate by 90* while copying from shadow to screen buffer)
       * no DPMS support

Applications / Re: WarpIn 1.0.23 - Where is it?
« on: December 20, 2020, 07:25:47 am »
The point was for the folks who let their subscriptions lapse (think: early adopters, who purchased ArcaOS 5.0 in May of 2017 with six months included subscription and then never renewed). It's simply not fair to everyone who does renew on time to have people go three years and then re-up for another year at a fraction of the cost of a new license. Everyone else is funding development in the meantime. (And frankly, the vast majority of ArcaOS licensees do renew early or on time, probably because we continue to crank out new stuff and we work tirelessly to address trouble tickets. </shameless plug>)
Sorry to resurrect an old thread.
But I kind of don't like the sentiment of the above.
Don't get me wrong I appreciate everything you have done with ArcaOS Lewis and will keep updating my subscription to support the development.
But I don't think someone that buys arcaos 5.0 and stays with it is some kind of criminal. I mean they supported the OS by buying in the first place.
And, some people are happy to stay with older versions - such as if you are mainly running a legacy app and it can keep functioning fine and they are not needing to be as cutting edge.

Anyways, my 2 cents.

Over the last years I had been trying to get all OS/2-ArcaOS-eCS software development material, like docs and tutorials, on the EDM/2 wiki.
Martin - I'm amazed by all the work you've done on the Wikis in general (like the hardware database etc). Where do you find the time? Thanks for that.

It is currently barely capable of being built, carefully.

Yeah I know it's still under development just curious if it would solve the memory issue if/when it gets functional or that is just something fundamental.

Thanks Dave - really appreciate it. libvpx-legacy-4 worked without issue, and now everything is loading without errors.

They have not done anything for over ten years. I would expect it to be they ae totally out of the game.
Yeah, I was just joking :). Not expecting much either but Arca Noae is doing great thankfully.

Eventually this will kill OS/2 as developers use 64bit machines full of memory, less and less will run on 32 bit machines.
Thanks for the explanation - I didn't know it was so connected to the ram requirements. Fascinating and sad if it leads to the death of the OS. How does the QT browser solve that problem though?

Well it did it again unfortunately. Installing the yum rpm requirements then results in both firefox and thunderbird not being able to load.
I'm getting the message Couldn't load xul.dll (faulty module libvpx4) when trying to start firefox - and "couldn't load xpcom" when trying to load thunderbird.

Seamonkey is working great though 8)

I looked through the readme but I must be missing something. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Hardware / Re: What happened to the hardware database on ecomstation.ru?
« on: December 19, 2020, 07:32:08 am »
You could use the one at OS/2 World.

https://www.os2world.com/wiki/index.php/Category:Hardware

I found the one at eComStation.ru a bit limited because the entries were not dated, and much of the hardware was no longer available. I'm sorry its gone, I suppose.
Thanks for the tip - that resource is great!

I'm not a programmer so i'm curious to understand why making new mozilla builds is troublesome?

I recently installed arcaos 5.06 on real hardware - and everything went great.
But then I tried to install seamonkey-2.7.2.r2.en-us.os2-wpi.wpi (It looked to me that was the latest version?) and i'm not
sure what it did but installing it seemed to frag both firefox and seamonkey - neither would load after doing that.

It seems that installing browsers is more complicated then I remember.. last time I played with OS/2 (ecomstation 1.2) you could just unzip into a folder and launch the browser.

So anyways just wondering if anyone knows how to safely install seamonkey without doing that.
