Applications / General Software Testing

Does anybody has an idea what is this Ruki (Ruki.sys) driver for?
It says its developed by Alex Romanov. It is for OS/2 and it shows it loads on boots, it loads ruki$, but no idea what is for.
Or it is just somekind of demo/sample?

(Please don't try it on a production/critical machine, I don't know what it is)

I have ArcaOS 5.1.0 with UEFI mode and installed it with Panorama, on a "Lenovo Miix 510-12ISK".

I'm not able to enable DPMS on Doodle Screen saver to automatically shut down the monitor. All the options are grey without the possibility to enable it. It was the first time I installed ArcaOS (or any OS/2) on this machine, so I have no reference to know if it ever worked.

Is it something I may be missing, because I remember that Panorama was able to work with Dooble Screen Saver to shut down the monitor, if I don't recall correctly.

« on: September 18, 2023, 02:09:44 pm »

This year I'm also asking for donations to video stream Warpstock 2023.
Please help me out with this goal.

I need also to test that the button the main page is working, if someone can start with a little donation and let me know if it worked, I will appreciate it.
Check the donate button at the right side of the OS2World main page.

Hardware / Touch Screen and Pen support on ArcaOS 5.1.0
« on: September 10, 2023, 06:49:44 pm »

Now that I was able to install ArcaOS 5.1.0 two machines with touch screen support, I want to see if by any chance I can get support with Wim's drivers.

My first try is with the "Lenovo Miix 510-12ISK".  Since it is dual boot, I had tested with Windows 10 that it has a working touch screen and the Lenovo Thinkpad Active Pen.

I had generated it's PCI hardware report and USB report, but I can find which is the Hardware ID I should include on USBECD. I'm attaching the devices that I see on Windows 10, but the hardwareID is not a regular one. I can only see is a Wacom device.

My plan is to start with Wim's "Thinkpad Yoga12" package, since it' the more brand related.

I want to add:
 DEVICE=C:\OS2\BOOT\USBECD.SYS /D:????:????:???? /N:$FINGER$ /S /V
 DEVICE=C:\OS2\BOOT\USBECD.SYS /D:????:????:???? /N:$STYLUS$ /S /V

But I need to fill up the ????

Setup & Installation / UEFI: Dual Boot - Windows 11 and ArcaOS 5.1
« on: September 07, 2023, 04:52:22 am »

Is it real? Was it that easy?

I just installed ArcaOS 5.1 on an UEFI HP Pavillion x360. It has Windows 11 and I wanted a dual boot machine.... and it worked.
It was too easy that I'm still rebooting from one OS to other to see when it will fail  ;D

1) On the UEFI first I disable "Secure Boot". When trying to boot Windows 11 the UEFI BIOS asked me to type a code that was showed on the screen (crazy UEFI stuff).
2) Booted Windows 11 and reduce the size of the Win11 partition to have some free space before it to install ArcaOS. I used Easus Partition Manager on Windows to reduce its size. (Check Dual_001.jpg for reference on how the partitions look like).
3) Booted the ArcaOS Flash drive.
4) Created the partition on the free space.
5) Finish the install
6) It shows a "AN Launcher" where I can select ArcaOS or Windows... (Dual_007.jpg) The only thing is that Windows shows like "old_x86".

I just want to know how to change the names of the options on the "AN Launcher", so I can rename one to "ArcaOS 5.1" and the "Windows 11" the other.
But I'm very happy on how easy it was.

General Discussion / Firefox or Dooble for the OS2World Forum
« on: August 30, 2023, 12:15:03 am »

I need to ask this because I haven't updated the OS2World forum script and I found out long time ago the SMForum 2.1.x is incompatible with Firefox 45 (There is an issue on the reply text box where you can not see the text menu options). If I update the script we all require to change to Dooble. So I need to know.

Applications / ArcaOS 5.1 - First Impressions
« on: August 27, 2023, 03:10:10 pm »

I would like to know your first impressions since ArcaOS 5.1 was recently released. It would be great if the brave ones to try ArcaOS 5.1 first will share:
- Experience with the UEFI supporting, turning off any CSM (Compatibility Mode) and just running with UEFI mode in real hardware
- Report UEFI hardware, even if it was already reported, but now turning on the UEFI option.
- Report DOS VDM and Win-OS2 support with UEFI support turned.
- Any other thing you may experience or that you want to share.

Update: I will like to congratulate Arca Noae and the people involved on this release. Even that right now there are some server problems to get the software, I need to express my joy about this important milestone.

Let me know if there is a way to run it.

Programming / Compiling a SDL Game (2023)
« on: August 13, 2023, 05:38:59 pm »

I would like to compile an SDL (SDL1 or 2) application under ArcaOS as a learning activity and with a long term to try to re-compile some SDL open source games that were compiled long ago, that the DLL dependencies changed with time and now are difficult to run.

My question are:
1) Any recommendation on what can I compile first, so I can tune/test my build environment.
2) Is there some "full screen" feature/library for games working today on OS/2?

Off Topic discussions / Off Topic: Situation in Ecuador
« on: August 10, 2023, 10:37:12 pm »

I guess some of you read the news of a presidential candidate of Ecuador being shot on the street in Quito. Just to clarify, it is not that we only have two candidates in Ecuador, we used to have 8 and now we have 7, but it is still a terrible news.

First of all me and my family are fine. But this time it kinds affected me since it was in my city and in proximity to where I work. I pass that street while going home almost everyday. I was driving like three blocks away from that place at the time of the shooting yesterday.

I guess these days I will more paranoid and more anti-communist than ever. Me, like a a lot of Ecuadorians, right now are evaluating our situation and what could be our possible future.

Applications / How to Run Perl ? Prima
« on: August 08, 2023, 11:47:18 pm »

Checking the OS/2 software around I found this one:

Prima: Prima is an extensible Perl toolkit for multi-platform GUI development.

Version  1.12 can be downloaded there, I still can not find 1.20.

But the main question is how it is supposed to run perl code on OS/2 ? For what I see on the pictures this scripts provides a GUI interface, right?

Applications / [SOLVED] DOSBox Video Resolution Issue - SDL - SYS2070
« on: July 25, 2023, 11:23:43 pm »

I just installed DOSBox on my ArcaOS 5.0.7 VM.
This one:
I installed SDL and mikmod with yum/rpm, which my VM was missing.

I remember I didn't used to have problems on the past but today I'm getting this error.

If I double click the DOSBox icon, it quits with this POPUPLOG:

07-25-2023  16:19:35  SYS2070  PID 0047  TID 0003  Slot 006b

If I try to run it by hand I get:
DOSBox version SVN
Copyright 2002-2021 DOSBox Team, published under GNU GPL.
CONFIG: Loading primary settings from config file dosbox.conf
Your fullscreen resolution can NOT be determined, it's assumed to be 1024x768.
Please edit the configuration file if this value is wrong.
A non-recoverable error occurred.  The process ended.

So I changed:
- fullresolution   = original
- fullresolution   = 1024x768
and I get.
DOSBox version SVN
Copyright 2002-2021 DOSBox Team, published under GNU GPL.
CONFIG: Loading primary settings from config file dosbox.conf
A non-recoverable error occurred.  The process ended.

Any idea what may be wrong?

Networking / [SOLVED] Release IP and Refresh IP from DHCP
« on: July 17, 2023, 05:28:39 pm »

Can someone please refresh me the techniques to release IP address and refresh/reset the IP (on ArcaOS) to get a new IP from the DHCP?

I have some issues with my VirtualBox VM guest (Host is on Windows 10). I hibernate the ArcaOS VM from the office network,  go home and re enable it, but it does not longer has internet access until I reboot.  Is this an issue of VirtualBox?

Applications / Lost / Missing Software for OS/2
« on: July 13, 2023, 09:01:28 pm »

I want to create this thread to get some help on finding some old software for OS/2 that it is missing.
I don't have any attachment to this software, but since I'm reorganizing Hobbes and checking some archives sites, I want to see if it possible to find some old software to have it properly organized and archived.

You are also free to post requests.

Games / PMRobots 1.4
« on: June 09, 2023, 06:17:27 pm »

I recompiled this little game called PMRobots with gcc, just in case someone wants to give it a spin.

It is played with the mouse. The goal is to make the Robots crash to move to the next level.

Here it is the source code just in case:
