Setup & Installation / Re: eStyler vs. Styler ?
« on: February 28, 2015, 05:30:30 am »
Dialogs and Titlebar enhancements, though Styler/2 has titlebar hiding available that is not in estyler and I have that on but I am finding that more annoying than useful.

I don't know if there is an uninstaller (would expect there is) I can say you can run both estyler and Styler/2 as I am doing so.  There are few overlapping functions and I use estyler for the overlapping ones and disable those in Styler/2.

Setup & Installation / Re: RPM/YUM update
« on: February 02, 2015, 08:26:31 pm »
You are right Silvan, i use both only to better review programs for our website when i update it, this guarantees me less dependency problems. however this issue was from one day to other, so quite strange
I have the same error here, I am waiting before I fix it for some other testing but rpm --rebuilddb  will probably fix it.  Unfortunately, yum/rpm is quite fragile and requires a lot of maintenance on Linux much less on OS/2.
The rpm --rebuilddb did not fix it in this case here, has fixed those type errors in the pase.
Had to do yum shell
and in the shell
update libsupc++6
update libstdc++6
run
I know have two libsupc++6 versions installed but things appear to be working.

Applications / Re: OpenOffice 4.1.1 GA - pre-requisite uninstall?
« on: January 29, 2015, 08:26:41 pm »
FWIW

Here I can run both AOO & FF24 at the same time.  I can print a couple of pages from a basic document in AOO at the same time too.   I'm using 14.104SMP kernel.  I have not set any DLLs to run in highmem.
If you do not have a patched kernel then marking DLLs to run in highmem will cause a trap when the DLL unloads (maybe not everytime but often enough to be annoying).  So if you have not installed the patch, you probably don't want to mark highmem.

You can also mark the Firefox dlls to load high. Currently xul.dll can only be marked to load the code high without eventually crashing.
I had thought they had just fixed xul.dll so it could be set to load code and data high.  Maybe I am misremembering or misread something along the way.

ivan & Andi B. -- Same here, My clients  (as well as myself) are only interested in running OS/2 as host and VBox running clients Windoz and Linux. I've been working for quite some time compiling newer versions with some success, but progress is is VERY slow, help for this project is virtually non-existant. I'd be interested in hearing any comments you might have in you're use of vbox.

Myself, I would like to have OS/2 host with sound and USB support for the client.

Items not already being worked on:

-Multiple sound streams for UniAud (my pet peeve)
-Updated OpenGL
-Updated VBox
-Updated SNAP
-USB3
-Intel WiFi drivers
-Bluetooth

I also agree with Andi B's comments on AOO and Seamonkey, but they are in development...
Though still in initial phase, Intel WIFI drivers are being worked on (Arca Noae).
USB3 is still in the design phase as it is fundamentally different from USB2 and how to implement it is still being determined; Lars spoke a bit on this at Warpstock.
Bluetooth, no work on it at this point but Lewis has asked how much interest there would be for Bluetooth and for what functions to determine if there is enough interest for Arca Noae to build these.  He posted on the eCS technical list back in September.

Setup & Installation / Re: Help for QSINIT Ram Disk appreciated...

You can try to use NOFAT32 key in RAMDISK command line.
Indeed, I can now format it JFS.  The format throws an error but the format is complete by then:
Format completed successfully.

5151288 kilobytes are available.

Setup & Installation / Re: Help for QSINIT Ram Disk appreciated...
« on: November 14, 2014, 11:33:05 pm »
I have been trying the ramdisk again and attempting to format it JFS but I guess the problem is that I have been trying to format it after WPS comes up because it just doesn't work at all here (see below).  The problem with setting the qsetup.cmd and the maker.cmd approach is that then the ramdisk cannot survive a reboot if you wanted it to.
By manually building the ramdisk with the F3 (I think that is right) to get to the qsinit shell,  when I reboot and not create the ramdisk I find the ramdisk left in place with the files I copied to it.

[D:\]format q: /fs:jfs
The type of file system for the disk is FAT32.
Warning!  All data on hard disk q: will be lost!
Proceed with FORMAT (Y/N)? y
SYS0528: The specified disk did not finish formatting.

[D:\]help sys0528

SYS0528: The specified disk did not finish formatting.

EXPLANATION: An operating system error occurred while the disk was
being formatted.  FORMAT was not able to finish formatting the
specified disk.
ACTION: Restart your computer and run FORMAT again.

Internet / Re: Firefox for eCS (OS/2) 24.8.1 Beta2 using very high CPU.
« on: October 01, 2014, 11:18:42 pm »
Do you guys have REIPL=ON in your config.sys? I haven't had a random reboot in ages and seldom get traps, the very occasional trap 3 in JFS and when I marked SeaMonkey and Thunderbird to use high memory Thunderbird became unstable, even causing a trap 0. I unmarked Thunderbird and the system became stable.
In my case, No.. In fact I explicitly added REIPL=OFF just to make sure because I didn't want it to be an issue and traps give me a trap dump attempt (it won't actually create a dump but that is something else).

Hello,

both my AMD Phenom Quad Core computer and my Sony Vaio Intel i3 reboot like that.
Everything goes black instantly and then BIOS info show up as it reboot.
It happen with JAVA applications such as JDownloader as well.

Does it do a 'clean' reboot, like CAD does, i.e. the filesystem is clean on reboot like here?
I can replicate the reboot with apps such as ae.exe, newview.exe and I think tcpconfig.  These were created with Sybyl or WDSybyl (tcpconfig was with the latter but I am not sure if I had it reboot or just hang the system hard which I have had the previous two do as well).  I mostly see it with ae.exe and it started some years ago (maybe when I started using the SMP kernel).  I tried cleaning the fans, changing memory sticks, etc.  Finally I swapped the HDD into another machine and it still had the problem.  Later I put a clean eCS installation on the new machine with a new HDD and still had the problem.  The other day I put a clean installation on yet another machine and and had the problem on it as well.  I opened a ticket some months ago now.  I may be able to open ae.exe 30 times with no problem or it may reboot two launches in a row.  newview I have less problems with but then I don't launch it very often so it may be just as often.

If you have HTML, why not use it instead of PDF?  I personally would have HTML on the web and the INF for download.

Applications / Re: Regina REXX vs. OS/2 REXX
« on: September 29, 2014, 07:32:13 pm »
Regina REXX is a Classic REXX not Object REXX... I can't speak to the compatibility nor if it has the integration that it has.  If Open Object REXX were ported and replaced Object REXX then Regina REXX might be able to be used in place of Classic REXX.

Hardware / Re: eCS and 3 inch CD drives?
« on: September 26, 2014, 09:22:01 pm »
If these are the disks I am thinking of, they fit in the regular CD/DVD player.  I only ever had one of them many years ago but it read like any other CD but was just smaller.  In fact, if you look at a CD bay when it is out, there is often a smaller circular area that it would fit at.
