With the latest versions of VirtualBox, the shared clipboard no longer works from the ArcaOS guests. Has anyone else seen this? Since I've started using my own installer for the Guest Additions, I'm wondering if there is some issue there.

Thanks,

Setup & Installation / VirtualBox and Warpin (wic.exe)
« on: December 28, 2021, 07:37:01 pm »
I'm interested in finding out how much effort is involved in creating the Warpin package for the VirtualBox Guest Additions. I maintain a number of ArcaOS VMs and I'm hoping there is an easier method than just manually updating the guest additions every time I move to newer releases of VirtualBox.

Thanks,

Setup & Installation / ArcaOS, VirtualBox, and mouse freezes
« on: December 25, 2021, 06:02:49 pm »
In April, of this year, after many years of running ECS and ArcOS in VirtualBox on Windows, I switched to Redhat on new hardware. Since then random mouse freezes have started occurring in ArcaOS, and although the mouse is no longer in the ArcaOS VM, the rest of the VM is still running fine and can be controlled from the keyboard. This has been happening with two different versions of both VB and ArcaOS. The hardware includes AMD processor and video and two Dell monitors. I keep everything patched and up-to-date, including updating to ArcaOS 5.0.7 this past week.

The ArcaOS Mouse Setup dialog reports that the Mouse Driver is not properly installed, and includes the following Driver Version error message:
Failed to query version info: rc = 22

The only mouse driver specified in CONFIG.SYS is:
DEVICE=C:\OS2Additions\vboxmouse.sys

I folllowed the instructions in the Arca Noae wiki about installing the OS in a virtualbox, with the exception of the Display and Mouse drivers. I assumed that those were for the install process only and that the versions in the VBox Guest Additions would be used for the VM.

Any suggestions?

Applications / Change font size in File Open Container
« on: December 23, 2020, 06:30:00 pm »
Is there a way to permanently change the font size in the File Open Container? Using the Font Palette only changes the font size in the  currently open dialog.

Thanks,

I noticed the LSI0006 message during system start ups when Locked files needed to be processed. This is on a freshly installed copy of Arca 5.0.6 on a JFS 16 GB partition with  almost 12 GB free.

Does anyone have any idea why the message is showing up?

Thanks,
Bennie

Applications / Thunderbird using 100% CPU on newly installed ArcaOS 5.0.6
« on: November 26, 2020, 11:42:18 pm »
Today I migrated to ArcaOS 5.0.6 from v5.0.4. I copied my Thunderbird content from the old machine and dropped it into C:\HOME. Thunderbird starts OK, but after about 5 minutes, it starts using 100% until I kill it using top.

I have been using this method for email migration on OS/2 and Linux since the Netscape days, and I've not seen this before. Does anyone have any idea what's going on and I how I can remedy this?

Thanks,

Applications / Procedure for removing Apache OpenOffice
« on: February 02, 2020, 10:24:52 pm »
Hello,

The README for Apache OpenOffice has this warning: "Do not install this version over an existing installation." Concerning uninstallation, the same README has this: "Uninstallation could leave some files in the installation directory, remove them manually."

In addition to the files in the installation directory, however, I assume uninstallation also means all traces of the software, including in CONFIG.SYS, Registered Associations, and so on. I installed the software originally using WarpIn, but it does not seem to have an uninstall option, and I have not been able to locate any description of the uninstall process.

Any help will be appreciated.

I am really pleased with ArcaOS, but I have run into one issue. For a number of years I have been running eComstation in virtualbox (most recently, v5.1.14) with widescreen video support working just fine (1920 x 1200, 1920x1080, and 2560x1440). With ArcaOS, however, I have not been able to get any widescreen resolutions to show up in the Screen dialog for Snap, Panorama, or Gengradd. Has anyone else gotten ArcaOS to recognize widescreen resolutions in Virtualbox?

Thanks,
Bennie Nelson
