Hi mauro

………………...
If I had to guess the problem I would go with ivans suggestion of usb driver problem...

Pete

well I could also try with the wireless network mfp scanner (Samsung C460) if I could be lead step to step on how-to, since I have no knowledge at all on this

Hi mauro

Open a command window in the directory containing scanimage.exe

Then run scanimage with -L to list devices it finds and -T to test the backend driver. I suggest this as it seems the scanner is not being found

I have not used a usb attached scanner for a while but seem to recall that problems arose if libusb.dll was not current.

Regards

Pete

here is the output (scanimage.exe from originally installed Tame/2):

[C:\APPS\TAME]scanimage.exe -L
device `test:0' is a Noname frontend-tester virtual device
device `test:1' is a Noname frontend-tester virtual device

[C:\APPS\TAME]scanimage.exe -T

scanimage.exe: stepped read, 15 bytes...        PASS
scanimage.exe: stepped read, 7 bytes...         PASS
scanimage.exe: stepped read, 3 bytes...         PASS

but nothing happened on my scanner.
Do you think it would be suggestable downloading/replacing with the last version of scanimage.exe you mentioned here?

Thank you

Applications / TAME/2 (OS2 Warp 4.52 on Virtualbox)
« on: March 10, 2019, 02:35:13 pm »
Hi, have installed Tame/2.
On Virtualbox devices menu I have activated the usb connection to my Canon Lide 100 usb scanner.
Runned Tame2 for first time, it asks for scanner model selection, and among Canon models it goes up to Canon Lide 60 wich seems the nearest to my Canon Lide 100 (not in the list). Selected it, then I begin scanning preview or scan to file which take to the same output: a 0 kb tif file = non file scanned.  And I expect such result, as during the scanning interface displaying  the progress bar, which means that the scanner is doing the job, I do no not hear any working noise from my scanner, it is not active.
Could it be a usb port connection matter or what else?
Thank you

Multimedia / OS2 volume cursor (virtualbox machine)
« on: March 10, 2019, 11:16:36 am »
Hi, in my Virtualbox OS2 Warp 4.52 installation I do not have the volume cursor on the tray, not even in the system setup. How can I get it?
Also, I've just upgraded to Vbox 6.04 , and it seems that system sound now are "cutted" after one sec playing, they do not go to the end.
Is someone experiencing same?
Thank you

If you are using eCS, or ArcaOS, CADH (Ctrl-Alt-Del Handler) is installed by default. TOP is also included in the CADH menu.
FWIW: the silently added component TOP is only included with some versions of eCS. Probably the v2.x DE/EN ones.

Its author has released at least one CADH-related update in 2018, i.e. since the last version of eCS: "Added ability to use CADH.SYS for force kill option.". Dunno if some CADH WPI package was updated too.

the suggested downloaded version of CADH has TOP handling item in the main menu but TOP is not included in CADH installation, must be installed apart, which only consists in copyig his files in the OS2 directory

When I call the OS2 system shut down, a message warns that cadh popup is still active,  if I really want to terminate it must select OK.
As selected OK the system goes on shutting down .
Is this working as it is supposed to do?

If you are using XWorkPlace, there are shutdown options for things like that. I don't remember how you do it when you don't use XWorkPlace.

other musthave stuff for me, thanks   :D

If you are using eCS, or ArcaOS, CADH (Ctrl-Alt-Del Handler) is installed by default. TOP is also included in the CADH menu. Just do Ctrl-Alt-Del, and it should open the menu (as long as the system is responding). The rest is pretty obvious, and TOP is one of the options.

If you have an earlier version of OS/2, you would need to install the programs. I haven't seen that part for many years, I would assume that there are instructions included.

ok fine, having OS2 Warp 4.52, by installing CADH (it's a wpi package) it will take what needed, TOP included.
Thank you

Installing TOP is simple, FWIW. Thh upgrade package just uses the same directory structures, so we are all talking about the same TOP.

yes I trust you, but I cannot decode this answer, still need to understand how to install and make it work. There are some different excecutable in the zip files: then what next?
Thank you

Paul Ratcliffe'a Top ver 2.14 is very good also.

OS/2 VIO application to monitor CPU usage by process. It does NOT impose an artificial load on the system to generate usage statistics. The process list can be sorted according to various criteria (including CPU percentage, name, threads), and any process from the list can be selected to be killed.

http://home.clara.net/orac/files/os2/top214.zip

much interesting this one as well,   I saw the zip consisting in some executable files, how should they be installed-used ? Sometimes it is a matter of copying the files in the respective folders, I do not think this could be applied tn this case. It is not described in the readme.
Thanks

I'm looking for a process killer program for OS2 Warp 4.52 (guest in Virtualbox), simple to run, intuitive (GUI welcome), free.
Know a good one is CAD, but it's payware.
Could you recommend another?
Thank you

Web applications / Re: Firefox high mem
« on: January 16, 2019, 05:14:11 pm »
Hi, have Firefox 45-9-0 on OS2 W 4.52 guest machine in Virtualbox, 1024 Mb ramsize.  It runs good, just have to say that it takes almost 30 secs to appear after the first start in the session but after that is ok, then it takes much less when recalled again.
I've seen an item called Firefox highmem in the ANPM repositories, do you know if once installed it could take improvements to Firefox?
Thank you

ok, that is good to know, I'll apply the suggestions for Firefox himem and Moztubo. Repeat it is actually taking a little bit more to run at the first time start, nothing else.  Talking about ram size, I read somewhere that OS2 can work only up to 512 Mb, so more than that is useless.
Thank you
