General Discussion / Re: Hobbes is down

Hello Neil.

I see hobbes web server back and I can download files, but there are some dead link. I suspect the dead links are from the newer stuff, like BackEmUp or the latest xwp.  I don't know the exactly date of the backup that Nathan restored.

Regards

Update: I'm not completely right here, some newer uploaded files like "PALMTRIS_1-1_nl.zip" and "STAAF_1-2a_nl.zip" (Uploaded 025-05-21)  are downloading fine.

Hello Neil
Congrats on the new machine.

I think you have typo on your page.  The page says "Year introduced: 2018", but the model you have is from 2024.

In that case, do you think it will make sense to put Qt 6.2  on the Netlabs RPM?

It depends what the purpose/intent is. For getting an updated (but unstable) browser - then yes. If it's for compatibility with ported apps - I'm less sure. The DLL hell with 8.3 file names is real.....

I think it will be more the ported apps. I know that Qt6 is not mandatory today, but Tellie is starting to port some apps with Qt6 and I think we should be moving into that. But the idea is not to break the Qt5 things that are working. If Qt5 and Qt6 can not coexist that will be a stopper.

Martin,

What is your definition of mainstream?  An rpm in some pubic repository or something else?
Yes Steven, to publish Qt6 on Netlabs RPM.

Hello Paul

First, sorry for this shameless request from my side, like if it easy. This is just a suggestion and I want to ask your opinion.

Since Qt6 has some LTS releases , how do you see the idea of trying to port "Qt 6.5.9" which is supported to 2026-03-30 and try to stabilize it (as much as possible this release), until something happens to version 6.8 which seem being hard to make it work. Or do you think it will be better to focus on 6.8 which is also a LTS release supported to 2019?

I want to see if we can finally go mainstream with Qt6 and put it on the RPM repository.

Hello

According to other thread it seems a bad idea to try to go "mainstream" (put it on the RPM) with Qt 6.8.1 at the moment.
Maybe we should start with 6.2.6 and wait if there are some progress with versions 6.7 or 6.8.

Qt also has LTS (Long-Term Support releases) versions, It seems that Qt 6.5.x(LTS) is the one will hold to 2026-03-30, then it cames Qt 6.8.x to 2029.

Thanks Dave. I don't know why but it is had been hard to all the stuff for me lately.

I'm getting this error. I guess it is because Qt 6.8.1 does not has webengine, right?

QT6WEBEN->QMLPLUGN.__ZN8QJSValueC1ERKS_

Do you I have to go back to a lower version of Qt6 with webengine?

Hello

Please let me know what do you think. I will like to have the Qt6 libraries on RPM/YUM (On Netlabs if possible). Even if the webengine is not finished yet, I think that the other Qt6 ported apps are good for use.

Maybe Qt 6.8.1 can be available at the RPM/YUM so we can start mainstreaming the Qt6 apps that get ported.

Comments?

Hello

I like the wrongly cited Mark Twain quote: “Politicians and diapers must be changed often, and for the same reason.
There is no evidence that Mark Twain every wrote o said that, but I agree with the message.

Hello Chris

I had the same problem confusing CUBE some time ago. We don't have to confuse IBM Cube (Rubik Cube game) with the command line utility called CUBE (Utility to modify config.sys).

Hello Shadow.

Welcome the forum.

You will need the OS/2 command line, which commands are very similar to DOS.

What I would do is:
Do the machine has Diskettes?
1) Generate some OS/2 maintenance disketes from the there.
Do the Mahcine has CDR-ROM?
1) Boot from the OS/2 CD-ROM.

After you are in the command prompt
2) Find the "DaniS506.add" file and replace it with the new version. Try to reboot and see if there is any positive change.

I'm assuming that you know how to create OS/2 maintenance diskettes, and DOS commands. If not, that may be harder, let us know.

Hello Mark, welcome to the forum.

Just some questions here:
1) Which version of OS/2 are you using. Can you execute on the commend line "ver /r" and let us know?
2) Is there any specific request for printing? Was the printer parallel or USB?
3) Do you have any other printers models around the office that you may try? Can you share the models?

My personal documented experience is with the "Epson L4150 Printer" (USB).

Applications / Re: [Arca Noae] Dynamic Icons version 2.5.6
« on: May 30, 2025, 03:59:20 pm »
Hello Remy
I used dynamic icon on my desktop but I left icon view under folders with normal.
After (first) upgrade, I have dynamic icons under any folder  :-\  (next re-install didn't change settings)

What I understand is that you disable all dynamic icons and just let the dynamic icons on the desktop.
I tried these on my system:
1) On Setup  "Workplace Shell" on the "Icons Size" tab I set all the normal.
2) Right click on the desktop and set the desktop icons as "Dynamic Icon".

After that I still was not able to reproduce your bug. I see the icons on "Command Prompts" and "System Setup" even with the WPFolderEx class definition.
