I had Apache OpenFoffice AOO-4160-GA running. I removed it and loaded AOO-4170-GA. Now it will not start. I deleted the directories and even re-installed the C: partition (boot) and AOO-4170-GA will not start. Then I went and re-installed again and loaded AOO-4160-GA which also will not start. It gets to the "1.Welocme" which is the new install setup, and when "Next" is pressed the application vanishes without any errors.
Are there any suggestions?

Hi Greg,
There are some DLL's that you need to upgrade but I cant remember which ones now but you should find the list in the readme file.
-
Thanks for the note. I used the yum list in the readme and updated all but that does not fix the problem.

Greg
Run the quick install in YUM with the following script.
yum install libc libgcc1 libgcc-fwd openssl curl libjpeg libxslt libicu zlib libxml2 mmap pthread urpo libstdc++6 libstdc++ uclip
This will at least tell us that you have all the required dlls and nothing got accidentally deleted. As to whether they are the latest, that would have to be determined.

Did you install DLL's under local user lib ?

Had a similar problem and had to delete the AOO directory in the HOME directory.

Hi Greg,

Actually, that is what causes the problem. Greg said "I removed it and loaded AOO-4170-GA" You need 4180-GA to work with the latest DLLs. Unfortunately I don't remember which DLL needs to be down leveled (might be libicu). Updating to AOO 4.1.8 solves the problem.

..... Updating to AOO 4.1.8 solves the problem.
But gives you the new problem of destroyed calc documents when they contains diagrams. So think twice if you really want to update to 4.1.8.
-
Destroyed calc diagrams can be saved as .XLS and they remain intact.

Interesting observation.
On the other hand one reason why I'm using AOO is to circumvent proprietary formats made by MS.

I deleted the home directories and the programs directories and loaded OpenOffice 4.1.8
Now it is working again.
Thanks for the tips.
Must have been an incompatibility with the current system dll (s)

No. Based on your description it's simply a AOO problem when reading the 'old' settings. IIRC this problem was discussed here a while ago.

This bug is on several platforms and apparently will be fixed in the next release:

Your right, thanks :)
For some reason my mind simply slotted 4170 in as the latest version when its 4180.
Ditto everyone else about the calc and graphs problems. I've been using Libreoffice under ubuntu because of that problem but as long as you use xls under AOO-4180 it seems to work fine.

No, this bug is OS/2-only (speaking of released versions).
We are preparing AOO 4.1.11 at the moment...
Edit:
To be clear, we (the Apache OpenOffice project) are working on a 4.1.11 release. No fixed date for a release. We have no influence on the OS/2 port.

I had also the described problem, and a simple re-installation of the same WPI archive did help.
-
But now, it does not work anymore even I reinstall AOO. I tried 4.17 and 4.18. I have no idea anymore what to do. There are three different computers envolved, and an additional installation where I did not update the DLLs.
-
Check to make sure you have all the prerequisites with rpm running the following string in a command line:
yum install libc libgcc1 libgcc-fwd openssl curl libjpeg libxslt libicu zlib libxml2 mmap pthread urpo libstdc++6 libstdc++ uclip

Hi Martin,
What has changed in your setup since you reported it working in august ?

Anything in popuplog.os2 or a trp file? Whate does the stdout or stderr say? As AOO usually is not vanishing silently.
I'm pretty sure there is a pattern why it's the same on 3 different computers.
For sure we need more information to help further.

Silvan

I am using Version 65.1 of Libicu, not the 68.1 that gives me problems. You can try if this is.
I have installed OOO4.18.
