Multimedia / Re: mplayer - H265 problems anyone?
« on: December 13, 2021, 02:31:17 pm »
That's right...not H264, but H265...

Anyways...was pretty happy...but I always do my final review on my OS/2 box to see how the slower hardware handles it. Now here is where the surprise showed up: mpalyer wasn't able to play the H265 video normal. What I mean by that is that the playback was about 1/2 speed and it was definitely single threaded, my CPU monitor would show a single core at 100%, which would switch to another core, etc, etc.

In comparison a regular H264 1080HQ playback normally uses about 15-20% spread on the 6 cores, and it's definitely multi-threaded.

I'm running MPlayer SVN-r38083-9.1.0, smPlayer is just fine and VLC seems to be OK, but for some reason I discovered that none of the 1080 vides are producing video outputs in VLC, but that's a separate issue.

Sooo...I'm curious: has anyone else seen this?

I logged an issue report for this, see => https://github.com/komh/mplayer-os2/issues/11
I can see same behaviour.

Storage / Re: FAT32 - Netlabs or AN?
« on: December 07, 2020, 10:51:38 am »
Today, I use my cell phone as a camera. It takes better pictures than my old HP digital camera ever did (and that was better than my old Nikon  film cameras). I got a short adapter cable, so I could plug a USB stick into it (formatted FAT32), and copy things to that, then to my computer. At one time, I did get the phone to transfer directly, probably using Cameraderie, but that was more difficult than using the USB stick.

I transfer pictures from my Android phone to my desktop computer using Samba share. I used Asus File Manager before because it was installed on my Sony Xperia phone when transferring data from an Asus Phablet. I currently use File Manager Plus. It's better, faster, and you can browse photos, for example, just like on your phone's Album.

Networking / Re: WinOS2 and WinSock
« on: November 12, 2020, 11:34:50 am »
I heard that I needed to run two programs to get the IBM WinOS2 TCP/IP support working better.

1. Run \MPTN\BIN\VDOSCTL.EXE

2. Inside WinOS2, run \TCPIP\DOS\BIN\TCPCNTL.EXE

After doing those two things, the Mocha telnet is working. I did not yet try the TN5250 or TN3270, but I'll bet they work fine, too.

The only thing wrong is that on my SMP system, all cores are working at 100%. Does anyone know if there is a DOS Setting that controls programs that hog the CPU by polling?
IDLE_SENSITIVITY, default is 75, usually I put it to 4 or 5 for DOS programs.

One small problem, I have yet to find a tablet with a USB C port, all my Samsung units have Micro USB ports.  It would work, I expect, with a USB C to Micro USB adapter but that just makes it more complicated.
I have Lenovo Yoga Tab (Lenovo Tablet YT-X703L) with USB C port.

Setup & Installation / Re: Startup.Cmd not executing
« on: August 11, 2020, 09:03:42 am »
This is kind of strange, on my T540P Notebook, my startup.cmd does not automatically start at boot. I have to manually execute it. Now this is the only system that this happens on. Any ideas on why this is happening or actually not happening?
You could put startup.cmd to XWorkplace Startup Folder and set Initial delay and Per-object delay. On my system (ArcaOS 5.04) ePDF PrintMon object (Print2PS.cmd rexx script) didn't start at boot, when it was in OS/2 Startup folder. It could start manually. Now it is in XWorkplace Startup Folder and starts every boot. XWorkplace Startup Folder Initial delay is 3000 ms and Per-object delay is 1000 ms.

Hi David,

  It's working just fine here - system sounds, WPS MP3 objects and YouTube - all on ArcaOS 5.0.5 on bare metal 8086:A170. Thanks for continuing to progress with this! Any chance for multiple streams (so system sounds don't interrupt something else, they are just mixed in)?... or even surround...

Thanks for testing. In terms of multiple streams - I believe the SBLive driver supported this so it definitely should be possible to support.
Therefore, I use the SBLive driver, it works flawlessly. The downside of RAM is only 2 GB, exactly on this computer Memory Watcher shows 2180716 KB installed memory. If there is 16 GB more, the sound is distorted. Installed at 4 GB, the ramdisk uses almost half.

OS2LDR.CFG
Code: [Select]
RAMDISK = MIN=1836 HPFS Q:
HIDISK = RLOW=128 RHIGH=0
RAMDISKNAME = RAM disk

Browser cache, TMP, TEMP and swapper.dat are on ramdisk Q. Swapping (rarely happens) is pretty imperceptible.
This is Dell OptiPlex 960 and sound card is Creative Labs - SB Live! EMU10k1

Gmane stopped working here some time back, just tried with SM and it timed out. I'm subscribed to the mailing list, which is low volume. Start here, http://www.netlabs.org/site/community.xml
I use ProNews/2 and recall Gmane didn't work for few days some time back. Latest post I see in gmane.org.netlabs.community:

Hardware / Re: Thinkpad X60s + X6 UltraBase

Be aware that on OS/2, you must eject a USB drive before physically disconnecting it. Failure to do so may cause the drive to be marked as "dirty" and inaccessible until chkdsk is run. The easiest way is to use the "USB widget" on XCenter (from a commandline, you can also use "eject X:"). Also, be aware that once a drive has been ejected, it must be physically detached and reattached before it can be mounted again.
On my system it is not necessary physically detach and reattach drive to mount it again. 'USB widget Refresh' on XCenter usually do the job.

So far it works ok, but graph in CPU pulse a little bit out of screen.
More than a little bit, over 50% pulse graph does'nt show at all.

The widget relies on XCenter to give it the dimensions of its window - and sometimes XCenter gets it wrong. If that's the case here, then you can easily fix this.

First, expand the width of the widget; the graph will redraw itself. Wait a moment, then restore it to your desired size; again, the graph will be redrawn. Does this fix the problem? If not, try increasing the height of XCenter. Let it reformat itself, then restore the original height.

One or the other of these resizing actions should cause the graph to be drawn correctly. If not, please let me know.
Resizing made no change.

PMDownloader v1.0 saves download url in Comments: field.

Seamonkey 2.35 saves image file download url in Subject: field, when you use MB2 menu and 'Save Image As...'

Also you can put download url manually to Subject: field.
