Can you post the content of protocol.ini (to be found in \ibmcom) in both cases?

And now inquiring minds will surely like to know how you accomplished that ;)

@Tom,  that is what it appears to be although just how much influence using the HDMI port has I don't know.  As to the version of Air-boot, I assume there must be a way of finding out from the program code.

Just use a command prompt and type airboot2 to start the Airboot installer. The output tells you the version that is in use.

The problem is what do I use to dual boot the Ryzen box, especially then Air-boot only causes an error message on any of my 1920x1200 monitors? The error shown is a moving box saying 'incorrect video resolution', so there is no way I can select the win7 install.

This rings a bell, but I am not sure if I remember the details correctly. And I also don't remember if this bug in Airboot showed up in the eCS days or in the AOS era. It had something to do with a missing call to correctly set the video mode in Airboot (the venerable IBM Bootmanager did this correctly). I believe Steven Levine was involved in solving the mystery. If this was fixed in Airboot, then I don't remember in which version. Which version of Airboot are you using?

It should be possible to start another OS on another partition directly, bypassing a bootmanager like the IBM Bootmanager or Airboot. This can be achieved from a command line using the command setboot.exe . Run this command to see the possible options, or check the Command Reference.

Do I understand you correctly that you cannot boot from Airboot at all because of this problem with the video mode?

midnight commander is available at hobbes:
Never used it, so i cannot say anything about it.

That version at Hobbes is version 4.5.6r2 from august 1999, built using EMX 0.9c .
According to the most recent version is version 4.8.28 from march 2022 , but no OS/2 version is listed there.

When you use Shift + Enter to open an object, it opens that object and at the same time closes the parent object that contains the object you just opened.

I have got two ArcaOS installations. On one I have processed ArcaOS Package Manger update, on the other not. The updated system has now problems with generating PS files. When creating a PS file from an application, the PS file is larger than normal. When executing Ghostscript to generate a PDF file, the size is much higher than normal and fonts, both Type 1 and Truetype, gets an ugly bitmap replacement.

Why not check the file anpm.log for entries around the date and time of the update after which the trouble started?
Look for lines that start with "Executing:" which contain as name of the executed script
They will tell you which packages were updated, and wether the updated succeded or failed.

Have you already contacted him through the website you mentioned in your post? He is quite helpful.

so, after fp38 installation, and right after reboot for locked files to be updated, it hang after the boot manager.
all i get is a blinking cursor instead of the OS/2 "blob", keyboard is non responsive too.

Just asking to be sure: the machine booted normally before the fixpak was installed?

hi all, can someone tell why both Dooble and Simple Browser miss some character when displaying the page, see for example the main page of La Repubblica (attached image) where only four characters of the paper headname are visible ?
Thank you

Probably the issue that is mentioned in the updated readme-os2.txt ? See

I tried to use PayPal, and dooble crashes when it accepts a cookie. I authenticated, and it takes a cookie, but it crashes as soon as I try to make an invoice.

I had no problem logging in with Dooble on, even when I acknowledged their request for permission to store cookies.

Later I placed an online order and paid for it using PayPal - again without any problem.

I can boot to ArcaOS and rename those folders to OLDuser OLDvar OLDetc and then restart eCS.
I'll give it a try when I have some time. I'll save that for last.

Ah, so you are using ANPM on an eCS-system.

In that case you should follow some extra instructions that are listed on the Arca Noae website.
See the paragraph "Important note for systems with non-updated RPM/YUM" at the bottom of the webpage for the Arca Noae Package Manager. There it mentions that you have to take some precautions before running a "YUM | Update all" in case you do a fresh install of ANPM or if you have an empty package list when you start ANPM.

I followed them on my eCS-system and have had no problems after that. See

Dooble is unable to open my webpage without crashing....

I disagree: at this very moment I am visiting your homepage at the URL mentioned, using Dooble for OS/2.
BTW: what are 'fird parties' ? ;)

I recently tried YUM Tools Update in ANPM, it worked for a while downloading packages and installing, then there was an error message on 1 package and ANPM asked me to shut it down and reboot.
I looked for a log file but am not sure what I am looking for.
Any way out of this?

First question that comes to my mind: what was the name of the package that caused the error message? Do you remember that?

The log file should be in \var\log and is named anpm.log. Can you attach that file to your post?

Next step would be to narrow down which component is now failing: is it anpm? Or is it yum or rpm or python? Or one of the support packages that is needed by the components mentioned. That Firefox won't start, suggests that is one of the support packages.
