After all, hard to beat the 3840x1200 Desktop real-estate!  8)
I did it a while ago and quite using SNAP and dual-head. I'm happy with my 42,5" 3840x2160 monitor and don't wanna switch back to two monitor setups although I used it more than a decade. The slightly higher DPI is not a problem for me. But yes a curved 42-46" monitor would be even better.

But in the end if the developer doesn't want it, that's it.
There are only a few of them and if one of them thinks it's worth the effort and has nothing better to do:-).

Seriously the current repo is at github. There are the last fixes from Steven. As our browsers don't work there I can't see much. But I'm pretty sure issues are still tracked here -

Oh just saw your ticket. Maybe you've start reading here -

I was wondering if the 4OS2 developer would like to change the old 4OS2 icons.

I think the original icon is still delivered with 4os2 packages. Locally I've it changed a bit, but... Do you think we should pack additional ones together?

I don't know if the developer would accept that, but I want to give it a try.

We need an icon like the original one in ICO format with all it's different (currently 5) resolutions. You may have discovered that the 4os2 icon in xcenter looks different then on the desktop. So I know the 2 are needed at least. Don't know about the ogher three though. See picture. Anyway the user can choice which icon he uses. Packing a few png in addition shouldn't be a big problem. But what would be the benefit? I mean everyone can take another icon maybe the pngs from here and attach it to his objects anyway. And not everyone does have/like .png icons installed.

In the meantime I found out that my problem is NOT an incompatibility between GCC/VAC as I thought before.

I fear va_copy is not supported by any IBM compiler. At least I didn't find anything in ibmcpp3xx and ibmcpp4. Is this a gcc only thing?

Programming / Parameter passing to dll - difference VAC / GCC - varargs
« on: January 20, 2024, 01:50:50 pm »
I've a dll which exports functions which I wanna call from VAC, GCC (and Watcom) compiled programs.

Problem is gcc seems to pass varargs different than VAC.
I've a function in the dll something like
Code: [Select]
ULONG         _System   xPmPrintf(char *Format, ...);which works when called by programs compiled with VAC3.65 but produces garbage when called by a gcc test program (except the first arg).

I found here that Dmitriy noted about a problem with gcc and varargs but can't find a solution.

Any hints?

....- Don't now why, but copying from/to FAT32 USB is so slow compared to Linuxes. Is it beacause these are 64-bit? I doubt it. If someone has an explanation I am happy. Files included. Config.sys renamed to Config.doc.
Our FAT32 driver is notoriously slow. It's not because it is 32 and 16 bit. It's probably cause of some not so good design decisions decades ago. We are happy that it is somehow stable. If you need FAT32 for more than a few small files you've to use another OS.

- The LAN speed is about 1/3 compared to inux, but I can live with it.
How do you measure 'LAN speed'? Usually ftp or other protocols are nearly the same as with every other OS. It is limited by the hardware (100Base-TX, 1000Base-T). Wild guess - you measure speed with SMB shares only, right?

Thanks a lot Silvan. Without your picture I overlooked the obvious.

Can someone please remind me where I find the ignore user setting? My KI / KNI / AI / NAI / useless non-related nonsense detector get triggered regularly.

Isn't it enough to disable EAs for Samba shares? Or what is the option in smb.conf good for? I've it in the global section. I ever thought it is for the server, right?.

AFAIR the netdrive smbfs dialog has an option to enable/disable EAs too.

Applications / Re: NewView - control over NEW window placement?
« on: January 14, 2024, 05:32:14 pm »
For the ones who wanna position a window on a defined place other the one the OS has stored - maybe you wanna check out "PGMCNTRL V1.07 - C.Langanke 1996-2004".

F.i. I've a cli window (ssh to one of my linux boxes) which I wanna always like to open on the same place and I use for that an object like the picture below. The Parameters line is -
Code: [Select]
/c mode 120,65 & pgmcntrl /po:2100,25,820,950 & p:\4os2\4os2.exe @p:\4os2\4os2.ini "p:\4os2\4start.cmd & p:\usr\local\bin\old\ssh -l git nas-ab"

Did your install run through fully? A few months ago I tried to install over an existing installation but it failed. Even from the original CD it does not install all the things needed for the help system. AFAIR the installer crashed whatever I tried.

would open exactly on top of the first one, which is obviously not desirable.
Which I think is not that bad. I think this is the usual way window positioning worked the last centuries. I mean why should a program decide by itself where it is positioned and sized? It's the task of the OS to keep window positions (and sizes) stored and restore them. Usually at the place it was when closed the last time. When a user explicitly wanted to have it positioned on some special other place, you can always use pgmctrl or like or implement cli options or.... But hey - I wanna my windows at the place I put it. That's one reason I stay with OS/2. I don't wanna an OS or a program which decides this by itself. YMMV, but in this case you have other OS options anyway.

It's a big bug in latest versions of Win that they forgot about this OS (window manager) task. Although I understand their design decisions (which do not apply to our OS).

Applications / Re: ArcaOS is the best multitasking system there is
« on: January 08, 2024, 09:39:31 am »
I don't wanna say anything against your positive view on ArcaOS. But of course there are often similar tools for similar task with other OSes. F.i.
In Windows, they have to setup external monitors to do what Xpager does.
I use VirtuaWin (v4.5) on Win to replicate xpagers behavior and even set up the same keys for switching between the pages. There are other tools which do the same. But long time ago when I looked for it I choosed this one.

I also have DesktopOK and WindowManager (DeskSoft) on every of my Win installations together with a lot of other utilities to make this OS somewhat user frindly (for me).

Remember, on OS/2 (ArcaOS) we also need different third party utilities (like XWP and a lot of others) to make the system behave the way we like it.

Programming / Re: Where to find Toolkit2.0 - SOM compiler .sc files....
« on: December 27, 2023, 12:38:12 pm »
Thanks Lars. I'll try to integrate that into the build system of pmprintf (polymake and...). But maybe will take a while until I worked out some other problem.

Programming / Where to find Toolkit2.0 - SOM compiler .sc files....
« on: December 23, 2023, 04:58:35 pm »
I've toolkit 2.1 and probably all newer ones. Even Watcom10.6 includes some .sc files. But the project I'm working on seems to need Toolkit v2.0.

I've no clue about SOM and classes and.... but there is one .csc file in my project which constantly bothers me. There should be a way to convert this .sc file to the newer .idl form. ctoi.cmd which is included in os2tk45. But it complains about a file in toolkit21
Code: [Select]
{0}[e:\_work\pmprintf\trunk] ctoi WPSTEST.CSC
"", line 440: error: Override method "somInitClass" not in base class.
"", line 444: error: Override method "somNew" not in base class.
"", line 448: error: Override method "somRenew" not in base class.
Number of errors: 3
error in converting WPSTEST.CSC

So I think I need toolkit20. Where can I find it? Any other ideas? Maybe I try to disable all these SOM things in pmprintf cause I guess nobody will ever use pmprintf with som classes anymore anyhow.
