Polls / Re: Compatibility with OS/2
« on: December 13, 2017, 04:50:41 am »
After IBM had won that lawsuit against Microsoft for stopping OS/2 Warp from being pre-installed on computers, I had hoped they would continue developing their operating system to compete with Windows. Alas, they did not. I am glad there was eComStation and now Arca Noae to continue.

It would be neat if there was some backward compatibility but I don't see it as being critical.

Hardware / Re: New laptop for Arca os

I can wait a few more months for the new laptops.
I am also impatient for the new version of Arca OS, the one which boots from USB

I think that would be great since it seems optical drives are on the way out and it is not easy finding a computer that still has one.

I was able to install ArcaOS on a laptop using an USB optical drive. It has wifi but does not see it. I have a printer and will see if it works with it.

Hardware / Acer Aspire One Computer Review?

I found a site that has a review of the Acer Aspire One.
It seems similar to what I have. The article as information / specs on the laptop.

Hardware / format a flash drive?
« on: October 07, 2017, 06:16:21 am »
I did the 'pci.exe < pciout.txt' thing. Now I am trying to get it to a flash drive to post here. It sees the flash drive but says it is not formatted correctly. It has been awhile since I formatted a flash drive in OS/2 - eCS. I am looking in ArcaOS to where it is done. A little help in how it is done is appreciated.

Thanks for the reply and the information.

Please post back the pci.exe report like : "pci.exe > pciout.txt" so I can post it on the OS2World wiki. Also with the wifi hardwareId we can get a hint if the card is supported in some way.

I will try the PCI.exe and report back with results.

Right click on desktop, choose Properties-->Background

Thanks about the information on the wallpaper change.

Hardware / ArcaOS 5.0 on an Aspire One Computer.
« on: October 01, 2017, 12:18:27 am »
I finally got around to trying the ArcaOS 5.0 operating system. It is on an Aspire One D255E with an Intel Atom N455 (1.6 ghz) with 512 KB cache, 1 GB DDR3 memory, 250 GB HDD, and a 6 cell Li-On battery. It has sound. I can use an USB mouse. I don't think it sees / detects the wifi port.

I tried to change the wallpaper but I have yet to find where it is that changes it.

With eCS, it did not see a flash drive that was attached. I will see if it does or does not.

I am so glad it works with it. The next step is to tweak it. Perhaps upgrade to 5.01? I will try different software with it. It can use the USB optical drive.

I am one happy nerdy camper.

How old is this old computer? What is the make and model of this old computer?

I think this is neat. I like the 'eraser head' track pin. I like it better than using the touchpad. I am still trying to get used to a touchpad but I prefer using a mouse; wireless nowadays. Perhaps call it retro?

I like that idea.

Do you mean the text and headers of this page?

I will check out it, but I would not include Blue Lion, since it will be called ArcaOS :)
So it will be OS/2, eCS and ArcaOS.

I think ArcaOS sounds better than Blue Lion.

Just say... "OS/2 and derivatives".

For search bot purposes, OS/2, eComStation and ArcaOS are still going to be mentioned in posts post headings anyway.

I think that is a good idea.

Perhaps one could change the forum headings from 'OS2 eCS' to OS2 eCS BL' so that Blue Lion is considered part of it?

They might not be new but there are a couple of laptops with eComStation pre-installed.

Arca Noae has software for eCS - OS/2

It would be nice to get a computer with eComStation or Blue Lion pre-installed.
