Package is called prtscn18.zip  http://www.os2site.com/sw/internet/misc/prtscn18.zip

HI Martin,

I read Roderick's reply as..

Using the IBM DDK would be introducing old code that is nolonger relevant for todays hardware, from a programmers point of view it would be easier to compile modern code for usage under OS/2, that would also completely remove dependencies on code that is copyright and the licensing required in both legally accessing and using the IBM DDK.

I would be better legally, and very likely from a coding POV to recreate drivers from already open sourced code, or via a clean room method, you at least get rid of any legal problems right from the start and have a driver code base under current control.

I think I see were you are going with this but there is progress being made though slowly with new/updated drivers. Multimac, soon we should see SNAP again, USB drivers, word of possibly upgrading/advancing the USB Audio driver, which I'm very interested in so I
can use my MUSE USB sticks under OS/2 as well. Yes OS/2 lag's with driver development but look at how many people are working on it compared to other operating systems :(

Note, I've never looked at driver development under OS/2 so what I'm saying above could be me just blowing it out be backside,
just what I've picked up and possibly misunderstood in the process.

Applications / Re: Test build of Electrum Bitcoin wallet
« on: June 04, 2015, 08:04:18 pm »
A late reply,

Started the bitcoin QT client, let it create the directories it wanted then closed it down.
copied my blockchain over to /apps/.bitcoin and restarted the exe. Took a long time to
check the blocks which was ok as my server fell over after upgrading the firewall software.

The client eventually finished checking and started up fine, my wallet amount looked good,
tomorrow I'll restart it and make sure it talks to the net ok, I see no reason that it shouldn't  but
considering the time here and the time it took me to put a monitor, keyboard, and a DVD on my
headless server to boot and return to my previous version of the firewall software in between
the traps with fxwrap..  <== no server, no internet access, as the server sits between the inside
network and the outside world..

At least I updated my config.x in the process, it was dated 2001, shows how many times I'm
problems with this server since I upgraded it in 2007.

Thanks Sam and Paul,

I'll copy over my blockchain tomorrow or Wednesday and see how compatible it is,
then I might think about my wallet after :)

Hi Ivan,

I've noticed incorrect time keeping in Openjdk6 with Jalbum and a few other java apps, not a show stopper so I've never bothered investigating further, I'm in a -8 time zone with no DT but cant remember how many hours Openjdk6 was out.

General Discussion / Re: Microsoft to Open Source Windows?
« on: April 09, 2015, 07:14:24 pm »
Hi BigGoofyGuy,

Those articles really don't say much, and to me suggest it would not be MS-Windows if it was open sourced but more likely a different O/S what ever it might be called, as it would need to be started from scratch.

Yes, it might have large chunks of current Windows code and API's but as with OS/2, much would need to be rebuild from the ground up, so a new O/S.
A lot of investment there, can Microsoft see its future in that direction ? Possibly but I don't think it's current work force is geared up for that in a major way.

Microsoft's current Open Sourced projects are islands unto themselves, with many easy to turn over to Open Source simply because they were easy to fence off legally and code wise compared to some of Microsoft's bigger projects.

The main reason IBM didn't, couldn't, and wouldn't open source OS/2 was because it was to hard, to expensive, and trying to figure out the mess left from some code owners that have vanished over the years (both personal and corporate), oh, and considering the amount of code copyrighted to Microsoft :)

It's just plain messy :(

Not going to happen, ever.

If for no other reason as the same reason that OS/2 cant be open sourced, to many cooks in relation to the code.

Thanks Silvan, I got caught by not having the latest libstdc++6 after that but now Firefox is up and running.

Extra DLL's required by  look for firefox-24.8.1.en-US.os2.beta_4.zip
look for firefox-24.8.1.en-US.os2.beta_4_Extra_dlls.zip in Hobbes incoming ,
later in  /pub/os2/apps/internet/www/browser

Why not just use YUM ?
Because I don't have the time or the patience to redo and re organise my computer.
Said with all respect to the developers.

Another way of saying it is, I'm not you, and you are not me, we are different, we are human.
How boring the world would be if we all had to conform to the same template.

I installed the zip versions.
fontconfig-2_8_0-1_oc00.zip  <== actually backlevels the version of fntcfg2.dll
   freetype-2_5_5-1_oc00.zip
into C:\ecs\dll

I renamed my old firefox directory and unzipped firefox-24.8.1.en-US.os2.beta_4.zip
I have all the latest gcc and libc DLL's from when I installed Apache Open Office a couple of weeks ago.

When I try to run firefox I simply get

  "Couldn't load xul.dll"

I havent run highmem on the firefox dll's yet.

There is no exceptq or other log files anywere.
I've read the readme and changes file with nothing that jumps out at me.
