Setup & Installation / Re: Dreaded Desktop/blue screen SMP hang....
« on: November 26, 2014, 07:33:48 am »
I had one system that was having real problems after the initial install. By the time I got it completely installed, it worked every time. (more stuff in CONFIG.SYS seems to help).

That is what I see when I use the creating image/cloning method with DFSEE - as it is a "full feature installed clone" it works on machines where the initial installation is not possible.

The Problem you have is the SNAP Driver. Please read here for more Information:

https://translate.google.de/translate?sl=de&tl=en&js=y&prev=_t&hl=de&ie=UTF-8&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.os2.org%2Fviewtopic.php%3Ff%3D2%26t%3D11&edit-text=

You can use all kernel with the Panorama Driver but your Video Performance will drop.

Holger from Germany tries to adress the SNAP / SMP Problem.

General Discussion / Re: Arca Noae - just got my business!!!
« on: November 22, 2014, 10:14:06 pm »

Hi,

in my opinion Arca Noae took the right, best and last opportunity to give Users the Chance to use OS/2 for some more years.
Personally I would ´"only" need to have an wireless Intel Driver,an updated Uniaud and a new Amouse driver to get the trackpad (when will Amouse 3.X will be availiable?)to run - to perfectly use my custom, with UPDCD build (please see my other postings) Version of OS/2 Warp 4.52 on the one year old top Model of the Sony Vaio Pro 13 Laptops....
And I think this Company and everything I have read about their plans, their Partners and what they have done so far gives me some realistic hope to do so in less than one year. I am really looking forward to see what will come! I wish them good luck and will try to help as much as I can!

If the agreement does not turns into a reality, we can have the option of grabbing OS/2 Warp 4.52 CD ISO and make a custom, UpdCD like, distribution of OS/2.

Yes, I am at a Point now where I "just" would have to figure out what files I have to place where and what entries I have to make in configuration files to add the last part of my modern OS/2 Warp 4.52 DVD - the ACPI Drivers und Subsystem - that it will be availiable during the DVD boot process.....

Just an Experiment  ;)

The new SDL 1.25 Version corrects an error in combination with the Panorama VESA Driver, that is bothering me for years now  ;)

New Version is availiable here:
http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/download/pub/os2/dev/SDL-1.2.15-20140930.zip

Before the Maximum 64k for the Desktop was possible, in true colour SDL applications did Show a wrong colour sheme (everything blue).

This error is gone now.

Thanks to the developer and Porter  :)

Time. Yes, we all need more of that.   :(

Yes - the time problem -  ::)

Besides my OS/2 things I am working on old Thinkpads -mostly later equipped with OS/2 as well, Like the

IBM Thinkpad 365ED

(see attached Picture Transnote)

Meanwhile I have got all 3 in good condition and running....   8)  but still some small or minor issues to solve.

It is esecially nice to see the Thinkpad Butterfly fueled by OS/2 Warp connect with WINOS2 with everything supported....  ::)

Then there is the "Maximum Warp DVD with QSINIT" project still in the pipe and the "OS/2 User Meeting Cologne 2014" at hand, besides my Project "OS/2 on modern Hardware (Sony Vaio Pro 13) via cloning"....

I will report as soon as I make progress, thanks so far!

Setup & Installation / Re: In deep trouble with Air-BOOT or what??
« on: November 13, 2014, 08:12:26 am »
May be there is another explanation or that something else is wrong, but anyway I now can boot the OS I want from AB.

Well done! And while Ir read your explanation the OS/2 User meeting in Cologne last year came to my mind - I had my X230T there, equipped with the usual SATA HDD plus an MSATA SSD I added (in the MiniPCIe Slot that is there for i.e. the UMTS/HSPA card). And I had the same trouble, till I changed the boot order in BIOS back to the SATA HDD, where Airboot resides, but all the Operating Systems are on the SSD.

If I remember correctly I was not able to install Airboot Manager on the SSD it always went in the MBR of the HDD (May be someone knows to tell Airboot in that case to go to the HDD one wants it to go)
So, even if all the Operating Systems are on the SSD I had to choose the HDD to boot first.

Thanks to both of you, espacially to Doug - I think your post should go directly into the WIKI!!!

Really great, I already had the steps 1 to 6 and 7a before (as shown in my Video  :)  ) and followed your next steps. I still do something wrong with the steps 10 to 13, so I do have a crash with these - have to figure out exactly why. I need some more time for this and will report.

Attached a screenshot with DFSEE and the Driveletter R:   :)

Explanation:
In DFSEE you see the Partitions I created on the internal 256GB M2SSD of the Vaio Pro 13, where

ID 01 is HPFS386 with OS/2 Warp 4.52 + my additions + parts from eCS 2.2b2 (Driveletter C:)
ID 02 is Windows 7 Pro 64 (Driveletter C:)
ID 03 is Windows 8.1 Pro 64 (Driveletter C:) (so the Windowsversions do not see each other)
ID 04 and 05 are NTFS Drives for use with Windows, ID 05 is used to store the Imagefiles I create with DFSEE in Windows 7 from the OS/2 Partition to have backups
ID 06 is FAT32 drive to share files between Windows and OS/2 (as no WLAN is working with OS/2)
ID 07 and 08 are JFS Drives for OS/2
ID 09 is the RAMDISK created for OS/2 with QSINIT
AirBootManager is used for booting the three Operating Systems

It took me some time to sort out how to create the disks and install Windows 7 and 8 to not see each other  :)

Setup & Installation / Help for QSINIT Ram Disk appreciated...
« on: November 11, 2014, 09:07:48 pm »
Hi,

I do have the QSINIT 301 running with my sony Vaio Pro 13. As it is equipped with 8 GB RAM I would like to build an 4 GB RAM Disk with QSINIT.

The best would be, if this RAMDISK is automatically created during the boot process.

I read through the documentation and tried my best, without success.

- tried it with typing the command in the QSINIT Shell    ramdisk /q nohigh size=4096 R:   but that seemed to do nothing.
- as I tried to find ramdisk.exe inside the qsinitfiles and did have no success I downloaded the ramfs and added the ramfs.ifs to config.sys . But this changed nothing - as I expected because the config.sys is loaded after the QSINIT Loader startet...

Well, I know that Doug Bissett played around with this but was not able to find it in this forum.

Help is really appreciated!

Thanks

Sigurd

Setup & Installation / Re: In deep trouble with Air-BOOT or what??
« on: November 05, 2014, 12:40:52 pm »
Hi,

I would guess this is more a diskfailure rather than a problem with Airboot.

Something is wrong with the disk so Airboot can not act as it is used to - it resides in the MBR of the Disk.

That the PC is looking for a bootable device via your LAN card is another sign for this, because of the BIOS not recognizing your HDD it tries to boot from a different location. You might enter BIOS and there you will find a menue where you can see wich boot devices are enabled - "Booting via LAN" seems to be enabled as well.

I would suggest to check your HDD with a bootabel Linux System or the Diskchecker with eCS.

Sigurd

I don’t know what really happened, but after rebooting from Vista to eCS 2.1  I got this message.

AIR-BOOT !ATTENTION!
The code of AIR-BOOT is not intact any more.
Please boot via AIR-BOOT disc to restore AIR-BOOT.
System halted. Please press RESET.

AiR-Boot (1.1.0) user manual has a description of how to handle this situation. I followed it but got the same messages again and again. I must say that I installed version 1.1.0 while I had version 1.0.7 from before. At the end I installed the old version and then Air-Boot was up and running.

I then could boot eCS and was happy. I left the computer over night without closing down, ready to continue my work where I left (all programs closed). This morning I found this message on the screen:

Press TAB to return to the AiR-BOOT Meny!

The TAB did not respond. Shortly after a new message was displayed: SAVE ERROR!

After restarting/rebooting I got an other message before the last one described above

This message was on the screen for a few seconds and was then replaced by the first described message.

One comment to this message is that I don't use the Realtek card even if it is installed in the computer. I could never make it work.
Please! Can anyone tell me how to proceed from here?

My slides + audio are now on youtube - http://youtu.be/Vw6bhDH8Oig

Hi Paul,

thanks, listened to it the last night - it is really great to get so much bakcground information.

Because of my english knowledge I was not able to understand the plans/Problems with UNIAUD in the of your Video. As I am playing aorund with the Sony Vaio Pro 13 with Intel HDA Audio - what do you think - is there a Chance to get an updated UNIAUD in general?

Thanks again and keep going your excellent work!

Setup & Installation / OS/2 Warp and the Sony Vaio Pro 13 - The Problems
« on: October 22, 2014, 09:19:37 pm »
I made some more tests, here are the Problems occured so far:

Sound:

Latest UNIAUD loads, but I get no Sound. Usually I try to get info with "unimix -list", but this leads here to the result
"Invalid number of PCM instances on Adapter 0"

I googled this and someone solved it last year with using the latest UNIAUD. But I already have the latest UNIAUD....

Please see attached Picture "Eingefangen004"

QSINIT Loader

I do not know why - the latest QSINIT Loader 299 results in a blinking Cursor once I selected to boot it just stopps without any message - so I can not see what goes wrong. The OS/4 Loader does work so far without Errors.

Touchpad

I can not get the Touchpad to work, I do not know why and where to lock. I guess this is the "unknown Mouse Adpater" shown in the Hardwaremanager. I tried IBM, SMS and Amouse 2.80.
Fortunately the USB Mouse is working

What I still can not believe is that both USB 3.0 connectors are working as USBEHCI 2.0 ones. Well - no reason to complain I guess...  ;)

More to come...   8)

Here some Benchmarks I just made with sysbench 095c, Panorama Vesa FullHD, attached. Mostly all four kernels had been at 99,9% during testing, the system got a bit warm and the fan worked, but I was not worried about burning it up ;-)

Setup & Installation / OS/2 and the QSINIT Loader - Video Online!
« on: September 29, 2014, 03:50:59 am »
Unfortunately it is in German - but in FullHD

http://youtu.be/wrTgSKn6u4E

And I guess even if one can not understand what I am saying I hope the video itself explains quite a lot.

Please keep in mind that this is still a very early stage of what I am trying to build if it all will ever work I do not know  ;)

First you can see the UPDCD envrioment on my Thinkpad X41, afterwards booting the DVD dated 28th of September 2014 booting the X200T via Dockingstation. The QSINIT Menue and some of the options are shown.
Then there is a boot to the OS/2 Installation (successfull with 14106W4 Kernel), interrupted by me. After this there is an attempt to boot the OS/4 Kernel (still not working succesfull, I have to dig here more).

But the basic idea is running  :)

Hope you enjoy, Have fun!
