Applications / Re: Installing IBM Pen for OS/2?
« on: January 09, 2014, 08:27:43 am »
I do not recall exactly the process ID but before installing PEN you have to press CTRL+ALT+DEL and then the Processlist. There you have to kill the mm... process (sorry, do not know exactly the name, but it is the mmpm related process). Once done this start the Installation again.

One more hint: Please do not install any driver with PEN as those are not working and not necessary :-)

With my X200t not all PEN applications have been working, i.e. the ones to learn the strokes etc. But the Tutorial i.e. is great to read :-)

Programming / Re: OS/4 kernel and extended KEE
« on: January 07, 2014, 09:49:02 pm »
It is so interesting to follow this thread!

Encouraged by the success of Doug I started to change my Warp 4/eCS 2.2beta2 clone and add QSINIT. I customized OS2LDR.INI so that I can choose between 3 different kernel

and with three different ways in addition for each: "normal boot"; "Boot with drivers listed ALTF2", "Boot to recovery console ALTF1"

-> so alltogether 9 entries in the boot menue.

In addition I have entries for the OS/4 Loader and the eCS Loader, that makes it up to 11 :-)

So I started to play around wich constellation may work.

Is there a way (other than via kernel options) to add different config.sys directly to the boot menue? I need different for i.e. 14106SMP with "Mensys" ACPI, OS/4 kernel with OS/4 ACPI

What I noticed in the short period I was albe to test today:

- when I choose a different loader i.e. OS4 Loader the red OS/4 in the left upper corner shows up, but the menue stays and says "I am waiting for choosing something, otherwise will boot the normal one" -> or is this the right way? Is the Loader then already loaded and do I have to choose the kernel then?

- when using OS/4 kernel and OS4APIC.PSD the system right at the beginning while booting states that the ACPI4.SYS is missing. Unfortunately the systems allways hangs with this constellation, right before FAT32 drivers are loaded. But if I REM the RUN and IFS for Fat32 it still hang....

Well - I have a lot to learn and a lot to test, but it is that impressive to see these Prebootmenues once F9 i pressed....

Well done!

Hi Sigurd .

Yes, for sure Martin. It is a pleasure for me. Please keep in mind that it is about two years old and some things did change i.e. the Airboot Manager.

Best regards,

3) eCo Software doesn't deliver products to Sigurd Fastenrath, he can't discuss our products because can't test them.

That is exactly true. And in addition it is the other way round:

eCosoft takes my work and ideas to earn money, i.e.:

You can find and proof the "business" of this company and how legal rights are kicked with feet here:

Just read Answer to Question 3 - a typical violation of everything that is accepted as legal by other persons/companies.
Classical rights form the medieval age - lacking every advice from a lawyer or at least someone who knows something about rights and justice.

But, no need to care about, I guess, as the economical steam is running out there, I think one of the reasons may be the quality of the products, speaking for it self..... :o

And yes - the Maximum Warp PC will not contain even one application developed by ecosoft, it will be a nice OS/2 Version and be shown in a longer movie, later this year, hopefully  ::) It will be a movie "Celebrating 20 Years of OS/2 Warp".

- When eCoSoft grabs a BSD licensed software and turn it into a closed source product, it is legal, but its bad for open source and software continuity.

That is exactly the reason why I still try to avoid all that ecosoft stuff - with a lot of projects those try to make money from things others have invented or developed. And in addition I had a lot of crashes due to this parts. One of the examples: USb widget (working better now, but still better to be replaced), another example: the fails with eCs 2.2 beta 1 with "Big icons" and the other ecosoft stuff for the WPS (remember Drive letters?). For a stable WPS it is better to disable the NeoWPS parts. It was one of the major enhancements of beta 2 compared to beta 1 to disable the newly introduced neowps features again.

I will give a video example once my maximum warp pc is ready.

General Discussion / Re: What is European Software Solutions - ?
« on: January 03, 2014, 11:24:07 am »
There are two possibilites I guess:

- another investor took over
- a management buy out

-> Unfortunately we have - like with status of eCs - no official informations.... :(  :-X

XEU is - regarding wikipedia - "The European currency unit" - what would match the other Software Portfolio of - related to banking stuff.

Best of all the Original statement:

The two main software packages that have been developed by the XEU software developement team are:
- IBANC, a software package that enables users to execute large volume SEPA payments and direct debits.
- ECS/2, a software package that allows users of OS/2 apllications to run those applications on today's hardware.

Games / [Spiele] SCummVM for OS/2 1.6 - Hopkins FBI !!
« on: January 01, 2014, 01:50:26 pm »

Since September there is a new SCummVM Version 1.6 around, ported by Paul Smedley - I can not thank him enough for making this still possible!!

By accident I read that this now includes support for the Hopkins FBI game. I bought this some time ago, have never been able to get it to run stable because

- the CD hast to be in a drive each time you want to play (my Laptops lack a CD)
- the game was unusable because the hardware was to fast for it

But now - just install ScummVM 1.6 (do not forget the SDL files in addition) and copy the HOPDATA directory from the CD (I have got the OS/2 version and it works as well) to the HDD: Then just "add game" and navigate to the HOPDATA directory on your HDD - that's it!!

It is running smooth and great, with sound and superb graphics!

I attach some pictures for your convinience.

Please note:

- I use SNAP with my new "Maximum Warp Desktop PC" (that is still under construction), if you use Panorama Vesa you may have troubles with wrong colours (everything blue) in this case switch the system from 16M to 64k colours

- what you see is a eCS 2.2 beta 2 (that I almost reverted to OS/2 Warp 4) on an 8 core AMD FX 8320 Processors. With Panorama you can use all 8 cores, but Graphic performance (GeForce 6600 PCIex16 with 256 MB RAM) is poor compared with SNAP (SNAP is about 10 times faster). But with SNAP you can only stable use 5 of the 8 cores - pretty enough for OS/2  ;)

- All the best to all of you for 2014!

Events / Already full paid: OS/2 User Meeting 2014
« on: December 19, 2013, 04:04:54 pm »
For the notes: I have just paid the money for the rent of the room and the beamer at the Youth Hostel in Cologne for the next OS/2 User Meeting on 29th of November 2014.

As the Financial-/Duration- and Timequestions are all decided now we have enough time to collect ideas for the meeting from now on. :)

Setup & Installation / Re: ecs2.2 beta refresh
« on: December 15, 2013, 11:21:07 am »
Just downloaded and tested it with my X230t.

The Installation went well once I changed the boot order from <first ahci, second danis> to <first danis, second ahci>.
I was not able to Format the Installation drive with JFS, HPFS went OK, - I guess it was due to my testing with cloning before.

So, in short:

- Installation went well
- very fast booting
- AHCI and ACPI seems to work well
- Power Management etc. works well
- Split View and PNG Desktop ( are not set as Default anymore  :)
- USB seems to work well

- still no Support for WLAN later 2007
- DOS16 and WINOS2 do not work due to Limitation of Panorama
- UNIAUD still not able to handle two Sound Adapters (HDMI and AC97) so still no Sound
- 512MB RAM Problem on modern core-i processors still there

But, yes, this is a really well Beta II!

I heard rumours David is working on WLAN Multimac for Intel chipsets, and I guess the 512 MB RAM Problem could be solved once Mensys is able to merge the enhancements of the OS/4 Loader with the ecs one.

It is really worth a try, finally. Well done

Events / Short Report about the User Meeting Cologne 2013 and Forecast 2014
« on: December 01, 2013, 02:36:41 pm »
Herse some quick informations about the event, a more detailed report and pictures will be provided later.

For us (Thomas and me) the event was a total success! We have had 16 attendees, some coming even from a longer distance, like Wolfgang Draxler who travelled from Vienna! We discussed a lot of topics about OS/2 Hard- and Software, the OS/2 internet web site, the future, and one attendee even showed us possible ways to create a bootable USB Stick with OS/2!

It was really a harmonic event, with really factual discussions! We are very satiesfied with it! As Thomas and me sponsored the costs for the event this time, the attendees did donate that much money during the event that this already covers the cost for next year! So I will try tomorrow to rent the room during the same time (end of November 2014) there - I will report if this will work out - and then we will go on with the next User meeting 2014! 8) :)

Events / Re: Advance Notice - OS/2 - eCS User Meeting Cologne 30.11.2013
« on: November 29, 2013, 07:39:00 am »

as it is to much work for us to establish a "Live Video" from the event (but Thomas Müller and me thought about it, but please keep in mind it is "just" an User meeting made by some amateurs) we decided to record parts of the session and the whole day with a video cam and will publish a video afterwards somewhere for download and may be on youtube.

We will try to post - if there are any - some news during the meeting in the forums and may try to join some kind of chat (jabber or whatever) but we do not have a clue about it as we both do not use this usually. But if - we will notice it in the Forums.

It is a pitty that you can not participate, but we try to spread all the informations some might want to have (how many attendends and so on and so on)

Setup & Installation / Re: eCS 2.2 transforming into Warp 4
« on: November 29, 2013, 07:33:41 am »
Hi David,

thank you very much, I will try these tomorrow during the User meeting  :)

On a fist look I did not find the "Folder SPlit Views" in xworkplace, may be because of turning back to 1.09?

I will report progress, Thanks again!
