Applications / hints for python upgrade
« on: November 19, 2023, 09:12:58 am »
Hi all, Python upgrade which should be a prerequisite for QT5 installation, cause error messages on my attempt and remains undone under ANPM operation.
Guess the point is, as learned here time ago, by one side the i686 platform of some packages causing incompatibility for this task vs pentium 4 version, and on the other side ANPM itself (best say YUM) which prevents modifications of its Python files needed to run.
Posts about it have been written here but non easy to retrieve the one describing the final steps to solve.
Is ther a wiki-how or procedure description I can go through ?
Something I could remember there were specific YUM commands to use in a window instead of ANPM application.
Thank you

Applications / Re: ANPM disables netlabs-experimental repository URL
« on: November 18, 2023, 08:43:36 pm »
ok thank you, to be more specific: I had installed in ANPM the Netlabs repositories + the public one of Arcanoae by URI setting indicate on this page

https://www.arcanoae.com/wiki/anpm/

and all worked till now , then the Netlabs experimental did stop connecting.

Now I've seen different URI on the Netlabs.org page, replaced the one for Netlabs experimental and it runs now,  the other ones with the URI indicated in that Arcanoae link were left untouched and still keep running

General Discussion / Re: ArcaOS 5.0 free to use?
« on: November 05, 2023, 10:52:18 am »
thank you for confirming.

The site appearance/domain do not bring to think it's a piracy repository.

Self-defines  "[....] is a non-profit with a huge mission: Universal Access to All Knowledge. Based in [....], with satellites around the world, [....] staffers are building the digital library of the future - a place where anyone can go to learn and explore our shared human experience from books, web pages, audio, television and software. Forever."

The chief-founder is else than a dark subject, so described in Wikipedia:

"[.......] born [.....] is an American digital librarian,[5] a computer engineer, Internet entrepreneur, and advocate of universal access to all knowledge. In 1996, founded [.....] and co-founded [.....]. In 2012, he was inducted into the Internet Hall of Fame"
Follows his long carrier description and public awards received.

Dears,
apparently, everybody can download the ISO of Arcaos 5.0 from here:

https://------

and after that -guess- install and use it.

is that legally allowed ?
Sounds new to me.

Moderator's Note: I had removed the link to avoid problems. Martin.

it is recommended to remove the existing .dooble directory before the new installation, right?

Hi here's the latest release of Dooble compiled for Qt5. See the release notes under Help for what's new.
https://c.gmx.com/@744346040190108571/HQZnnDywT-ejiK1nqp1OYw

testing (QT5 environment on OS2 Warp 4.52 in Virtualbox guest, with 4Gb RAM), it opens the pages efficiently as before and I can run at least 3 pages same time on different "resource demanding" sites as Linkedin, Youtube, Gmail, Newsmedia. It also keeps same unstability issues which happen randomly, or at least I cannot tell when/why : cpu usage on Dooble instance goes at 100% (seen with Top), site pages not responding and almost everything slowdown in the system, but I can still operate Top to kill the process.  Guess memory usage matter

General Discussion / Re: PMfax

Looks like a winmodem, so no, it won't work under OS/2. Something like a USB USR robotics modem will work as the USB interface is presented as a com port.

understand, I'had suspected that.
Thank you

I'm curious about PMFax. First connection functionality I've been able to run at first OS2 usage in 1995 was a fax client in WINOS2 even before I could connect to Internet. Unfortunately cannot remember the software name.
Was by a 14.4 kbps modem through the serial port.
I'd like to try again, what I have is a Webrunner Atlantis Land 56.6 kbps USB faxmodem working in Windows 10, Conexant chipset, and OS2 Warp 4.52 on a Virtualbox guest machine.
Do you think I can afford the challenge?
Of course assuming that PMFax accepts USB connection or an alternative configuration setup for connection, and also can be used with the so said "winmodem" as that model should be.
Thank you

Applications / pdf plugin for Lucide missing after Poppler upgrade
« on: March 22, 2023, 07:27:15 pm »
Hi all, after some time I went back on Lucide 1.41 RC_4 to open some pdf files. answer is "can't find the proper plugin for this document".
Comparing this with an installation of Lucide still working with pdf, on another virtual machine late in software updates, I can see that the plugin missing is lupplr .
Also seen that Lucide still supporting pdf works with Poppler 0.59.0 and have learned that lupplr comes from there.
The not working one goes with the last Poppler update 0.90.1-1.
If try to install the latest Lucide 1.51 wpi package found on Ecosoft, at the begining of installation already warns that can't find Poppler 0.59.0, therefore it won't handle pdf.
If I try to downgrade Poppler 0.90.1 back to 0.59.0 on ANPM, it alerts that is not possible due to the Poppler-qt / qt5 version linked to same 0.90.1 .
What could I do?  If not possible having back a working PDF plugin for Lucide I guest have to dismiss it, can you suggest a good/smart PDF reader (or also more than a just a reader) ?
Thank you

Multimedia / Re: Updated Uniaud32 build
« on: March 19, 2023, 04:03:13 pm »
If SB16 works, great, but given there would be so few people still using that hardware, I have no real interest in investigating the issues.

well, not hardware, just emulation.  The VM actually works as explained with SB16 audio filter configuration/drivers, but if I could swhitch to Uniaud fully working would be best, my target.  Believe I'm missing some configuration klowledge.
Tks

Hi, occasionally follow this thread of Pauls's Uniaud updates work which I read is giving positive results in most cases.
In my case not exactly, meaning that my last attempts to replace SB16 drivers with Uniaud ones, system sounds ok but no sound in multimedia streaming files and randomly no sound in multimedia local files. SB16 at least ok in both system sound and multimedia local files.
This thread makes me believe that it depends on some wrong configuration I'm not understanding, also based on the fact that I'm not that smart as many of you, but much encouraged by the personal progresses reached just after joined this forum years ago.
Said this, I think that I will dedicate a new virtual machine to such task in Windows.
I actually run Warp 4.52 Vm VirtualBox both in Windows host, were I'm keeping 1 main guest and other 3 dedicated to different testings which if found positive/stable then are implemented on the main one,  and Ubuntu 22.04 host which receives the last stable updates from the guest machine in Windows.
Then I will ask a bit of basic support here, thinking that will begin whith the same issues above described.
Thank you

If it is using Firefox Quantum, it will likely be using Rust. OTOH, PaleMoon does not use Rust.

in fact, this beta (68) is a big switch from previous Mypal 29.3.

Web applications / Mypal68 -win32 browser- could ever run under Odin ?
« on: March 13, 2023, 10:07:17 am »
Hi recently discovered this beta under development for those one still using Windows XP.
I shortly tested it in XP environment, seems to be a valid one although still beta, using the engine of Firefox Quantum (version 68).
Curious to have a try in Warp 4.52 Odin -you never know....
Does not run, first it claimed a dbghelp.dll wich I the provided and placed under Odin\System32 folder, as in XP is Windows\System32.
But same, given PE mypal.exe command in OS2 terminal window, does not start, not giving answers.
Do you think it will never run ?
