Utilities / SYS0005: Access denied
« on: January 10, 2016, 03:27:13 pm »
I am trying to delete a folder with lots of sub folders from an external backup disk (FAT32).  That works fine until I get an "SYS0005: Access denied" error message for one of the sub folders. All of the files in that sub folder is deleted, but the sub folder itself is not deleted, nor are the folders at higher levels. No attributes are set for the folder.
Another message is also displayed: Deleting objects... Collecting objects... Target: (that is empty), and at last a progress bar just stopping at 0%.
The folders was created with the backup program Easy Sync. The program crashed during the backup process while processing a JPG file. The file was partly copied to the backup drive and into the folder with the error message. I deleted that file manually, ok. And I now wonder if there is some "left overs" from that file that destroys the delete process.

How to delete it?

Setup & Installation / Downward sliding icons
« on: November 24, 2015, 09:48:35 pm »
This is not a new problem, but I thought it was over when I installed eCS 2.1. It was for some time and then it suddenly started again. Now after having installed eCS 2.2 one and a half years ago it starts again. I did not realize it at first because the downward sliding is smaller then before and I can't remember I have installed any special software that could be the reason for this. But anyway it is annoying.
Does anyone know any solution to the problem?

Applications / What is missing
« on: September 14, 2015, 04:07:09 pm »
I have been struggling with Sane and scanning with my CanoScan 9000F for a long time. I now know that it is working for other people. I think that it is something I am missing in my installation, something that Sane depends on, but I don't understand the messages I get.
I'm running the program scanimage -L that should detect my scanner, and it does, but with a lot of messages. If I then try to scan running  scanimage >scan.pnm I get the same messages, and off course no result.
So, the question is if anybody can tel me what I have to do.

Here is the displayed result from the processes.

Setup & Installation / Can't install yum
« on: July 07, 2015, 01:09:21 pm »
I recently replaced eCS 2.1 by eCS2.2. I then wanted to install YUM. I run RPM-YUM-BOOTSTRAP-1.3.WPI. That part seemed to go well. Next step was to run Yum Bootstrap Console. Then I got this output:

1. Make sure you have an active Internet connection.

2. Type "yum install yum" in the command prompt below.

3. Wait until YUM downloads the base packages and installs itself.
   This may take some time.

4. Reboot!

5. Have nice yumming!

Repository setup
        package os2-release-00-2.oc00.noarch is already installed
        package netlabs-rel-0.0.0-4.oc00.i386 (which is newer than netlabs-rel-0
.0.0-2.oc00.i386) is already installed
Testing internet connection: "yum repolist"...

    gpgca_import_func = self.getCAKeyForRepo
AttributeError: 'YumBaseCli' object has no attribute 'getCAKeyForRepo'

And that is the only output I get whatever I try.
What do I have to do?

Hardware / Unexeptable printer speed.
« on: June 22, 2015, 09:42:46 pm »
I have bought a new printer: Epson WorkForce Pro WF-5190. For the first time for many years I can print in color from eCS, and I am using postscript (psprint.drv and PPD from EPSON). But there is a problem that force me to do the heavy printing in WIN8: The printing is extremely slow. In doble sided printing the first page starts printing 40 sec after sent to the printer and then 12 sec. later the second page is printed. I am going to print 100 copies of the same doble sided letter. Then the next copy also start 40 sec after the first copy is printet and side two of that copy another 12 sec later, and so on. That means that hundred copies take about one hour. I am printing from Lucide 1.3.5 GA.
Printing the PDF-file generated by Scribus in WIN8 is done in about 15 minutes. I guess the PDF-reader in WIN 8 is called Windows Reader.
Any ideas about how to speed up the printing process?

Applications / ecS and Java. Any comments?
« on: April 28, 2015, 03:22:58 pm »
I sent a question to the forum in Jalbum.net about problems with Jalbum 12. "Jalbum 12 does not start but Jalbum 11.4.1 does." I ended the question saying: Something wrong with the Java installation or Jalbum 12?
Here is the first answer:

Java 6 is just about at the end of its life - it's actually difficult to get it from Oracle at all (they send you off to an "archive" page, along with a lot of dire warnings). The next release of jAlbum (13) may not support it at all.

Can you get Java 8 for eComStation?

And Oracle Java is more reliable than OpenJDK.

Applications / OpenOffice 4.1.1 GA prints too much
« on: January 30, 2015, 09:26:07 am »
At the moment I only have a bw laser printer and it works well. But when printing from OO 4.1.1 I always first get an empty page and then one page with these five lines:
"
@PJL SET COPIES=1
@PJL SET RESOLUTION=300
@PJL SET RET=MEDIUM
@PJL SET ECONOM

If I select to print 5 copies it still says COPIES=1, but prints 5 copies
The resolution is like I set it.

Printing from other programs does not give me these two extra pages.
What should I do to fix it?

Setup & Installation / In deep trouble with Air-BOOT or what??
« on: November 05, 2014, 11:39:34 am »
I don’t know what really happened, but after rebooting from Vista to eCS 2.1  I got this message.

AIR-BOOT !ATTENTION!
The code of AIR-BOOT is not intact any more.
Please boot via AIR-BOOT disc to restore AIR-BOOT.
System halted. Please press RESET.

AiR-Boot (1.1.0) user manual has a description of how to handle this situation. I followed it but got the same messages again and again. I must say that I installed version 1.1.0 while I had version 1.0.7 from before. At the end I installed the old version and then Air-Boot was up and running.

I then could boot eCS and was happy. I left the computer over night without closing down, ready to continue my work where I left (all programs closed). This morning I found this message on the screen:

Press TAB to return to the AiR-BOOT Meny!

The TAB did not respond. Shortly after a new message was displayed: SAVE ERROR!

After restarting/rebooting I got an other message before the last one described above

Intel UNDI, PXE-2.1 (build 082)

For Realtek RTL8111B/8111C Gigabyte Ethernet Controller v.2.11 (07:...
PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable
PXE-M0F: Exiting PXE ROM.

This message was on the screen for a few seconds and was then replaced by the first described message.

One comment to this message is that I don't use the Realtek card even if it is installed in the computer. I could never make it work.
Please! Can anyone tell me how to proceed from here?

Setup & Installation / Strange and annoying problem with printing.
« on: December 18, 2013, 11:00:14 pm »
I have two USB printers, Brother HL-2070N B&W laser printer and Lexmark X5150. The last one I can't use under eCS because there is no driver either i eCS or CUPS. The laser printer often "disappear", that means it does not respond when I try to print something and it does not show up in USBDock. The strange thing is that if I open the property book for the printer and then for the output port (USB) I find the message that the printer is OFFLINE (DETACHED). Booting to Vista without touching any cable or switch everything is OK and I can print in Vista. Sometimes (eCS) I just have to move the cable to another USB port, sometime I have to reinstall the printer and sometime it just start working again. The property book for the sheet to be printed has an empty box for the spool file name. Shouldn't there be a spool file?
Any advices?

Hardware / Cups or not Cups
« on: November 05, 2013, 11:06:46 pm »
I intend to buy me a color laser printer. At the moment I think of Epson Aculaser C2900N, or Canon i-Sensys LBP7750CDN or Canon i-Sensys 7680Cx. The problem is that there are no printer drivers for eCS, and the printers are not in the Gutenprint list for supported printers. I guess the printers are too new. But all of them have emulation for Adobe Postscript 3. So my question is if I can print directly from eCS using postscript and forget about Cups or do I have to copy my print jobs to a common volume with MS, reboot and print from there as I often have to do today.

Setup & Installation / Can't use Facebook and Twitter in Firefox
« on: January 17, 2013, 01:51:52 pm »
If I want to use Facebook and Twitter I have to reboot to Windows Vista. Fb and Tw don't work in my Firefox browser. Here is what happens: If I just switched on my PC or rebooted eCS and open www.facebook.com (or Twitter) FF open my account as expected, but I can't go any further. If I click on a link to a friend or search anyone or want to write a comment I only get a message in the lower left corner saying Waiting for Facebook.... After a minute or so the whole page is replaced with a message saying: The connection was reset. The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading. If I then try to open FB again I only get the message Waiting for Facebook... It is of no help to close FF and reopen it.
But if I before I try to open Fb removes all Fb cookies, I again can open it into my account and stop there.

Some Norwegian newspaper have frames that point to Facebook. When I browse thru the paper even in these frames the message The connection was reset.. is displayed after a short time.

But there are also other situations where the browser is waiting for something that never seems to happen. If I want to buy software from Mensys I now have to do that in Vista. After ordering the software in eCS I am directed to some security check against my bank and I have to enter password etc. and I get a single message on a blank page: Processing... That takes forever and I just have to give in.

Because of this I can't use FF for much more than browsing. Strange enough I can do all my bank transaction with my main bank without problems, the same bank that is controlling my credit card info when buying from Mensys.

Versions: ecS 2.1,  - FF 10.0.11. But I have had the problems thru earlier versions of both eCS and FF.

Can anyone help me out of this situation?

Comments, Suggestions & Questions / Cruelty in OS2World
« on: January 17, 2013, 12:30:52 pm »
Yesterday I prepared a new topic in the forum. I started the topic like this, but as I am not English I had to think an check some words and sentences while typing. And I did some other things like watching the news on TV and even backed a bread. And before posting I even remember other facts to put into to message.
So, at last I had finished my "long" story and pressed the Post button.
What happened. Everything - EVERYTHING - was deleted with a message about that I had been on the function for more than an hour. As I remember it also said I had to log in. Stupid - I am always loged in. May be I am wrong about the login message, but anyway in my anger I broke a pencil and a few other not to mention things.
What about a little warning?
