Applications / Installing programs
« on: September 07, 2022, 10:12:44 pm »
Hi.  As background I have been using OS/2 since OS/2 for Windows.
I would like to start using it again.  I have installed it from ecomstation version 1.1 CD's.  That worked OK.
However, I no longer have the Installation code due to time and inability to get any one from Ecommstation to contact me.
So I am stuck with a version of ecomstation that works but Some programs from the cd and Hobbes don't install or work.
I would like to have help with getting programs installed and getting on-line.
Any help that anyone can give would be greatly appreciated.

Setup & Installation / OS/2 as it was
« on: February 08, 2022, 02:30:48 am »
I used to have an ongoing love affair going back "os/2 for Windows". I stopped using it with eComstation 1x as it cost  a lot of money but I found it was a money sponge.  Always an upgrade that didn't help but increased to problems that existed.
So here I back with my memory but lack of cognative abilities.
I read about eComstation and lurked around there for years but never saw anything that indicated progress.
I heard about Arca Noae, I looked through the boards, but it seemed like Linux with OS/2 on top.
I am running away Linux, used it for a few years years but it is a rapidly approaching disaster it appears to me to be Macos in dirty clothes.  A bad files system with a pretty desktop. That doesn't suit me very well.
So here I am with an old copy of OS/2 4.52 up and running in a virtual machine.  It runs find
I found I needed to get on the internet to download files.  I have that setup.
I tried to get Seamonkey running.  I can't do that.
It appears that it has been gotten to by Linux.
I do not want to use Linux, does anyone know of a place I can get older virgin copies of executables. That are still able to run on pure OS/2.
I know of Hobbes but how do you tell what is OS/2 and what is not.
Any information would be appreciated.

Comments, Suggestions & Questions / Just started to dabble in os/2 again
« on: August 26, 2020, 04:01:38 am »
Been doing that since 2.1. But had not used it in years.
I, of course, have a question. It appears now that there is a version called "Arce Noae" or something like that. It also appears to be a Linux distribution. As someone who has dinked with Linux for years I gave up on it about 6 months ago because it was inconsistent and flaky.
That's why I went back to OS/2 to see if it would allow me to just be a user and not an engineer.
I have OS/2 up and running now and am trying to see if it can be my daily driver.
This is my question when reading on the internet about something how do know if things like applications work under OS/2 or Arce Noea.
The appear to be all mixed together.
Thanks, jim

I am trying to get information on OS2world email.
If I go to "os2world.net" I get redirected here.
Does it still exist? If so, are there settings for the email.

Setup & Installation / ECs on a Toshiba M35x laptop
« on: August 30, 2014, 12:02:24 am »
I used OS/2 first with Warp for Windows, so I have some experience.  I haven't used it in a few years and now find myself with an unused copy of eCs 1 and an unused Toshiba Satellite M35X-S161 laptop that has Windows XP on it.
Tried a straight install on it and immediately ran into "Can't operate the drive", as I remember this means I don't have the right driver for the drive.
So I don't get jumped on, I did do a search of OS/2 World and got no hits.
Can someone help get me started?
