Storage / Re: MTP plugin for Netdrive?
« on: October 26, 2016, 05:14:24 pm »
I bought a Moto E (2nd gen) and once again the documentation claimed it works as a mass storage device (MSD) but there are no settings to allow it.
So first I test PTP mode, camerdarie sees photos fine on it, unlike my cheap tablet.
I then recompiled libmtp with the latest libusb and MTP mode also works, at least for one shot. I can turn off MTP mode and turn it back on and once again it seems to work for one shot.
I then retested with Paul's build and it seems to work the same. I have to figure out how to transfer a file with the example programs but it does list all the files using mtp-files.exe.
I'll continue playing it tonight.
BTW, tablet is still the same so I don't think using the latest Lars USB drivers did the trick, just slightly different implementation.
Here's the log from mtp-detect.

The lack of source is a killer for a GPL application and elfomf is based on GPL code, namely emxomf.
A better option is objconv http://www.agner.org/optimize/#objconv also on Hobbes. It'll convert ELF to OMF, unpack and repack static libs and disassemble DLLs and SO files. Worth looking at the documentation and a nice tool.
In theory if ELF code is just linked into CUPS, it may work but if using system calls, a compatibility layer would be needed.

In theory it may also be possible to have an ELF loader to load the Linux CUPS plugins. This is how XFree/2 loaded Linux graphic drivers and that code is available. How hard it would be, I don't know. And as usual there is the shortage of talented developers.

What version of JFS are you using? JFS-1.09.06.exe from the Arca Noae driver package is the only one that is safe to use (although there is one user who argues with that). There was an older version that had a TRAP 0003 problem. That problem is more likely to be running out of shared memory space.

I get TRAP 3's regularly from JFS-1.09.06 as well as other traps. At that I get more crashes in JFS then anywhere else though more often are system freezes. Some of the trps make no sense, such as when ejecting a FAT[32] USB stick. These can happen on a freshly booted system.

Isn't http://home.clara.net/orac/os2/doscalls.htm a fairly comprehensive list of the doscalls modules? And yes the kernel is a DLL with the module name of DOSCALLS. Be aware that some have both ring 3 and ring 0 entry points.

Hardware / Re: Format 64gb Thumb Drive

Use DFsee to try to create a FAT32 system on it and then format it to JFS. Hope that it is not hardwired to use exFAT which I've heard some are.

@joop, Lars has USB drives working pretty good now, no special settings needed. Of course only for FAT32 formatted drives.  Unluckily larger drives are now exFAT, which can be another question, "will we ever get exFAT support?"
As for RPM, I don't think it even works very well on Linux.

Setup & Installation / Re: eCS install problems on a recent mainboard

I had a Realtek PCI card that would work for a few minutes, getting slower and slower and then stop working. I moved it to a PCI slot with a dedicated IRQ and that fixed the problem.
My understanding of Realtek network cards/chips is that they use the CPU more then other network chips, which is one reason for their crappy performance.

Paul, perhaps this would help, https://github.com/bitwiseworks/mozilla-os2/blob/master/ipc/chromium/src/third_party/libevent/select.c and of course above this is other fixes that dmik did.

I'm not aware of anyone testing. It should work much the same as on other platforms, including bugs, eg the ones referenced in https://wiki.mozilla.org/Thunderbird/Maildir which i are probably in 45ESR. You can always create a test profile and try.

Programming / Re: Open Watcom libraries

In theory, assuming there is a makefile in that directory, you may be able to just invoke wmake though you may have to set up the environment.
In practice, OpenWatcom hasn't had much love for a while and you'll probably have to build the whole source and then be able to just build in the directory where you modified stuff.
Really you should start out by building the head of trunk as Steven has added some OS/2 specific fixes, IIRC related to using high memory. Its always built fine for me by following the directions. Never did try to build from a subdirectory.

Applications / Re: JAVA and https not possible
« on: September 04, 2016, 11:01:10 pm »
Looks like a bug and an issue should be filed at netlabs.
You could try using a cacerts from an older or different versio of Java. eg I see an almost 30k cacerts in JAVA142\lib\security. Try copying it over after saving the empty cacerts.
Doing some googling, it seems a common problem, usually fixed by pointing at the OSes certs, which we don't have. eg see http://icedtea.classpath.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=270.
There are places that you can download them from but I'd be really careful to get them from a trusted source,

Yes, David is trying to find time but he is one of the few and has a lot on his plate. Here he seems to have recompiled the BSD driver and did some testing which is good but from the readme,
Quote
WARNING:
4    THIS IS AN UNFINISHED, EXPERIMENTAL DRIVER. This driver has
5    passed initial tests and appears to work. However, you may
6    experience problems including hangs, failures, traps, etc.
7    THERE IS CURRENTLY NO SUPPORT FOR THIS DRIVER. USE AT YOUR
8    OWN RISK. Since the FreeBSD driver is simply compiled to run
9    on OS/2, there is no development, no debugging, and no support
10    for that part of the driver. Development is continuing on the
11    interface between the FreeBSD driver and and OS/2 so that part
12    should continue to improve.

19   Series 802.11 network adapters.
20   This source code from the FreeBSD "iwn" driver has been compiled,
21   unmodified, to run on OS/2.

Networking / Re: Bluetooth

There's no reason that given the drivers, we couldn't have a full bluetooth stack. Sadly we don't even seem to have the knowledgeable programmers to port up to date wireless networking, or at least with time to do it.
