Regarding your problem on 'G', have you run CHKDSK against that drive?

The big question is 'why would we need it?'  Until there is a reasonable answer to that question I see no point in considering it.

Maybe you should be using more than one disk, that way they don't mess each other up.

Thanks Dave I should have thought of that - maybe old age is catching up with me (heading for 85).

My question is simple but I assume the answer won't be.  I had friends over and they 'accidentally' messed up my ArcaOS install, so much I had to reformat the boot partition.  I have another computer upstairs that is a copy of the messed up one, now how do I transfer that system to the messed up one?

Maybe you should try WIN95KEY available from hobbes.

I find it strange that there is so much problems with OS/2 video.  I have a dell 30inch 2560x1600 monitor that runs without any problem.  No problem with video cards, I don't have one, it runs from the built in video of the Ryzen 3 processor.

Hi Doug

Out of curiosity what is your total resolution with that dual monitor setup?

I have a Ryzen 3 processor that drives my 30 inch 2560x1600 monitor without problems via a USB/HDMI 4 port switch so allowing my Linux Mint, Win data logger and Warp 4 boxes access as necessary.

I too agree with Rich and see no need to add anything to XWP, in fact I stopped updating XWP at 1.0.11 because it does everything that I need and expect from an enhancer program, also I don't have the latest win abomination to compare it with (yes, I do have win 7 on one of my computers because my weather station only has a win display).

OK. I stand corrected especially since I have no intentions of changing what works for me to something that might not work - that is why I have several computers at my desk connected by an HDMI/usb switch.

DFSee 17.0 also has the ability to convert MBR to GPT and also do any other required changes.  I would think that every OS/2 user has a copy of that free release.

Another thing to consider is changing the mother board to one that takes an AMD Ryzen processor with built in graphics.  I converted all my computers to AMD processors, my main unit runs a 30 inch 2560 x 1600 screen without problems.  Also, as Dave says be very careful with UEFI graphics cards - they are not all created equal and may not work with OS/2 - ArcaOS..

Strange as it may seem I was reading up about the problems of converting win 10 to win 11 because some friends of mine were thinking of doing so and it appears that there isn't any real advantage in doing that.

I have to ask, why change a very good working system to pander to Intel and Microsoft?  I have to say I am of the old school of 'if it ism't broken then don't fix it'.

Programming / Re: VisualAge C++ 3.6.5 (+ Fix2) - WarpIn or RPM?
« on: October 23, 2024, 11:52:54 pm »
I would vote for WARPIN which is the OS/2 way rather than RPM which is trying to turn OS/2 into a sort of clone of Linux which it is NOT, also Warpin allows one to select an OS/2 directory structure.

Setup & Installation / cloning OS/2

One of my computers died on me and I would like to clone my work computer to the new one - yes I have backups of all the data but not the OS or the customisation.  So it boils down to recreating what I had when I built that computer over 10 years ago - is it possible?
