Applications / Re: Qpdf

Hi Silvan,

I tried it on three systems all running AMD64 processors, 1 single core, 1 2 core and the third a 4 core unit.  All have 4GB memory and WSeB, with SMP on the two multi core.

So far I have 22 QT4 apps that I use without any problems at all, open files from anywhere.  QT4 is installed in os2\apps\qt4.

Out of curiosity I tried running it on the standby server, an HP DL385 with 2 2 core AMD processors and 32GB ram running WSeB.  It locked that solid as well when I tried to open a PDF that was on a different partition.

Edit to add that it works as expected if the PDFs are on the same partition a qpdfview, generally mine are not!

The big problem I find with qpdfview is that if I try and open a pdf on another partition (qpdfview installed in e:\qt4-apps, want to open pdf in f:\download) it locks the machine solid and I have to power off and then on again.

That was as much luck as anything though I did have the goal of getting 10 out for the reason that it would be supported for over a year.
The rapid release cycle made it very hard for a couple of people to keep up. Perhaps one person working on it full time would have but after Peter moved on and Mozilla switched to the release every 6 week schedule...
Mozilla has a lot of people employed developing Firefox and we've never had more then 3 or 4 since IBM moved on. And it can be tedious.
Dave, if that was luck then we must thank our lucky stars you made that decision.  The ESR branch is the most stable and much less prone to problems, so much so that I have converted all my friends to using it - even if they are using windows.

Thank you for your luck and all your hard work.

I had assumed it was because our versions are following the commercial ESR line which makes it up to date.

Setup & Installation / Re: eCS 2.2 YUM/RPM question

Andi B, I have found the biggest problem with *nix systems is that they follow Hal from the film and always come out with the equivalent of 'I'm sorry Dave but I can't let you do that' when I try to alter some text file that they use as an ini file.

The other thing I think we need is a program like WPIVIEW only for the rpm/yum installer.  That way we could find out what is going on.

Andy, thank you for trying to answer the questions but it would be nice to have definitive answers to those questions from the developers.

Setup & Installation / Re: Can't use Facebook and Twitter in Firefox

Einar, do you have any add-ons like noscript, flash block, adblock plus etc.?  If so check their settings you may need to either block something ow unblock something else.

One big problem we do have is that some sites try to open a link to the youtube back end and since we don't have a reliable flash player it times out and stops loading the remainder of the page.  I have to block that - ytimg.com - for several sites to allow them to open.

Barbara, I have a computer here that every so often does something to the video similar to what you described.  With ours it is if someone is using firefox and closes it then tries to start something else before firefox fully closes.  The best way I've found is to give the box the three finger salute  a couple of times in quick succession - the box restarts and all is well until the next time.  One day we will retire this box and replace it with something newer.

Applications / Firefox 10.0.12-ESR

Since there doesn't appear to be any way to directly contact Martin I will put this here.

Firefox10.0.12-ESR  ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/incoming/mozilla/firefox-10.0.11.en-US.os2.zip is available on the Netlabs site.  Just remember to add the  mzfntcfgft_runtime_20130104.zip, from hobbes, as per the contained readme.

Hardware / Re: Connecting and transfering files to/from an HP 50g
« on: January 10, 2013, 09:12:58 pm »
François, as far as I remember the 50g has full support for FAT16 and limited support for FAT 32 on the SD cards, also HP recommends that you use a USB/SD card reader to transfer between PC and 50g SD card.

I have not seen anywhere mentioned that the 50g appears to a PC as an MSD (mass storage device) since it needs drivers to work with windows XP.

From memory of what other people have said in the old forum if you accepted the default install of the USB subsystem for your PC when you installed eCS then as far as eCS is concerned your USB ports are setup to read anything that presents its self as a MSD.  The only thing you might need to do, if you want a MSD to have a drive letter, is to use the LVM to give it one.

You should go to hobbes and get the usbcfgb075.zip and read the excellent INF files it contains, they should answer all the questions you may have.  If they don't then just ask on this forum.

Conrad, the problem you are seeing with the win installer is that you have, in fact, too much room.  When the installer finds space greater than 2 GB it does something strange and rolls over its counting and produces a negative number.

There are programs like 2gbfix that should allow you to install if you want to.

Joop, may I ask a question?

I use many of the java programs you highlight without using a command file, in fact all I do is make a standard program object for each program.  At the moment I have not seen any problems doing it that way.  So my question is what are the advantages of using a command file to start these java programs?

Maybe you could do the same as they did over at Mobile Read with the old Entourage Edge forum.  Just import what you can recover into something called 'old forum' for example and let everyone that wants to just pick it over.
