Applications / XWorkplace v1.0.11 beta3 installing ?
« on: November 17, 2016, 12:21:41 am »
Has anyone had install problems ?

eCS 2.2 with xWPS v1.0.10 installed (hwman10.wpi not installed).

I tried installing over and new install, but on reboot, the WPS gets caught in a loop when creating new objects.

UPDATE: on a new install of eCS 2.2 the install was good !

Make sure you have good backups !

Storage / Duplicity encrypted backups (rsync) ?
« on: October 20, 2016, 12:17:52 am »
Has anyone looked into Duplicity ?

It would be great our secure OS finally has a secure backup too !

What is it?

Duplicity backs directories by producing encrypted tar-format volumes and uploading them to a remote or local file server. Because duplicity uses librsync, the incremental archives are space efficient and only record the parts of files that have changed since the last backup. Because duplicity uses GnuPG to encrypt and/or sign these archives, they will be safe from spying and/or modification by the server.

(is it possible?)

 * Python v2.6 or later
 * librsync v0.9.6 or later
 * GnuPG v1.x for encryption
 * python-lockfile v0.9 or later for concurrency locking
 * for scp/sftp -- python-paramiko and python-pycryptopp
 * for ftp -- lftp version 3.7.15 or later
 * Boto 2.0 or later for single-processing S3 or GCS access (default)
 * Boto 2.1.1 or later for multi-processing S3 access
 * Boto 2.7.0 or later for Glacier S3 access
 * python-urllib3 for access

If you install from the source package, you will also need:

 * Python development files, normally found in module 'python-dev'.
 * librsync development files, normally found in module 'librsync-dev'.

Applications / RsyncBackup/2 ready for testing !

RsyncBackup/2 - easy way to setup Rsync v3.09 for OS/2.

Rsync is a fast and extraordinarily versatile file copying tool. It can copy locally, to/from another host over any remote shell, or to/from a remote rsync daemon. ... Rsync is widely used for backups and mirroring and as an improved copy command for everyday use.

- Zip backup boot partition
- Scans and auto setup of Local & Network backup of paritions
- Or use the included scripts
- Install 'DragText' for timed backups (included with eCS 2.2)

- Setup of the Rsync Server

Needs some testing and suggestions, I have it about where I want to go with it.

I'm using these parameters (any thoughts ? Post what you use please):

Code: [Select]
rsync --dry-run --archive --itemize-changes --os2-perms --stats --xattrs --delete-during --log-file=\mptn\etc\rsyncd.log E:\ E:\Programs\Apps\Backups\rBackup\Backups\Local\Partitions\E

Main folder

Local backup of partitions (auto setup)

Applications / Web Fonts for OS/2 ?
« on: February 26, 2016, 01:03:26 pm »
Creating a font pack for OS/2 ? What format ttf, otf, eot or woff and how ?

I was wondering how many people have 'Workplace Sans' installed ? Since it's that main font I use on my site.

Also, what other fonts have you added to OS/2, tested, tips ?

I'm testing out the support for the @font-face HTML attribute (aka downloadable Web fonts) with the new FF 38 on my site - any thoughts ?

Added to the front page only for now:

      <link href='' rel='stylesheet' type='text/css'>
      <link href=',700' rel='stylesheet' type='text/css'>
      <link href=',700' rel='stylesheet' type='text/css'>

Roboto Condensed looks almost the same as 'Workplace Sans'

Any thoughts ?

Multimedia / WAV to FLAC using BatchBurn 2.0 ?
« on: November 18, 2015, 08:50:37 am »
Ok, in BatchBurn 2.0 it's set to rip a CD to WAV files & convert to MP3s, but I changed it to convert to FLAC

1) Question: When using this command (using flac v1.3.1):    flac *.wav

I get FLAC files that are just about twice the size of the original WAV file, is that normal ???  I know the -8 option will make it smaller, but I thought a FLAC file was just a compressed WAV file ?

Shouldn't the default produce a smaller file ?

2) Question: Can you make an audio CD from FLAC files just like from MP3 files ? I haven't tried to modify that part in BatchBurn yet .

(I'm guessing whatever format it is in, it's change to WAV then burn to the audio CD) ?

Setup & Installation / Soundblaster live & Sander's driver
« on: October 03, 2015, 10:56:44 pm »
Hey full duplex almost forgot about that ! added one to my dual core with 2GB memory, the on-board sound didn't fully work.

I found an old, but great guide on setting up the SB live card in the Yahoo group.

Couple of questions:

1) best mixer available (
2) Generic Win-OS/2 Audio Driver latest & any tips - where to get the drivers.
3) best PCI soundcard with native drivers ??? soundfusion, crystal chipsets some have Winos2 drivers ???

So far no problems with eCS 2.2 :)

Hardware / Preview - Build your Ultimate budget OS/2 machine !
« on: August 28, 2015, 08:31:00 am »
Here's a preview !  Any thoughts or suggestions ?

For under $90 bucks the ASRock 775I65G and Intel Core 2 Quad 2.4 GHz Q6600 CPU combo is inexpensive but versatile motherboard for legacy systems. With three PCI slots, the 775I65G has plenty of room because of the integrated video, lan and 6-channel audio which are all support out of the box by OS/2 !

Applications / TV on Demand for OS/2 !
« on: August 23, 2015, 06:08:05 pm »
Can some awesome person port/compile this simple bittorrent client to OS/2 with the added option of 'download in sequential order' like in qBittorrent !!!

1) Simple program to start the client and then call mplayer !

I do it all the time with Qbittorent, however I think it would be great to have video on demand for OS/2 !

Even better have libtorrent added to WPS.

Any thoughts ?

Here's a universal installer for Firefox, Thunderbird & Seamonkey !

Just install and Drag & Drop zip file to install Firefox.

Clean install tested:

- thunderbird-31.6.0.en-US.os2.7z

NOTE: 7z files other then thunderbird-31.6.0.en-US.os2.7z will need to be added to the install routines.

Or some fine folk could write a little code to handle 7z files ?!?!
