The readme is out of date as well as the libc DLL's that come with the additions.
You want to remove any in \os2\dll and only use the ones in \usr\lib.
Also note that the latest is libcn0.dll and the other libc06*.dll's are forwarders and need to be at the same level.

Thanks for the additional information. I was not aware of the connection between libcn0.dll and libc06*.dll. Since the Guest Additions for OS2 do not include libcn0.dll, then we shouldn't be using the libc06*.dll files from the Guest Additions CDROM image.

With the latest versions of VirtualBox, the shared clipboard no longer works from the ArcaOS guests. Has anyone else seen this? Since I've started using my own installer for the Guest Additions, I'm wondering if there is some issue there.

I tried with VBox 6.1.34. First, with an older additions (not sure which one), then after installing the matching release. Both work as expected.

Win 10 host, and ArcaOS 5.0.4 guest. In VBox settings General-> Advanced, Shared Clipboard is Bidirectional.

Anything in POPUPLOG.OS2?

The Shared Clipboard does not work to/from ArcaOS 5.0.7 on both Redhat 8.6 and Windows 7 running VB 6.1.34. There is nothing in POPUPLOG.OS2.

I noticed that the libc06*.dll files are now in \usr\lib even though the OS2 guest additions readme says to put them in \os2\dll. I have tried two sets of libc06 dlls. One set is dated 8/26/21 and the other is dated 3/23/22 from GA 6.1.34. I tried replacing the 8/26 set with the latest and ArcaMapper stopped working. It also made no difference with the clipboard. So I'm back to the 8/26 set.

May I ask how the VirtualBox Additions WarpIN installer is going?

I've been contemplating attempting to make my own. I'm new to OS/2 though. Would probably just try to package up the current Additions and describe how to do so. Knowing me, it would go out of date quickly.

I'd probably just use LIBPATH to get the VirtualBox drivers to be used instead of the preinstalled one, and I don't know how supported that actually is (seems to work on OS/2 Warp 4.52, at least). I also am unsure of when the libc stuff should be used or not.

Sorry it's taken me a while to get to this. I recently upgraded VirtualBox and used the installer. It worked fine, but I made some usability tweaks to it. I need to package it in a Zip file with a suitable Use-at-your-own-risk disclaimer. I'd like to get that uploaded to the forum soon to see what others make of it.

Okay, this is probably what is causing your problem. Set it to one CPU, and see if that helps (you won't notice much, if any, performance degradation). Some people seem to be able to run for a while, using more than one CPU, but most of us experience hangs, delays, and other unwanted side effects. VBox seems to use a method similar to hyper threading, and hyper threading is not, at all, compatible with OS/2 (even on real hardware).

I think you will find, that OS/2 doesn't use more than 16 MB of video memory, but it probably doesn't cause a problem.

I have been running two CPUs for quite some time in multiple ArcaOS VMs and other than the mouse pointer freeze, I haven't noticed any issues. My VMs run for weeks without rebooting. I can try one CPU in one of the VMs and bump up the video resolution again to see what happens.

I wasn't sure about the video memory, so I set it to the maximum. Thanks for pointing that out.

I do not understand what USB has to do with the mouse in VBox. The mouse activity is simply passed through from the host mouse driver to the virtual mouse driver, in the guest. USB, in the guest, has nothing, at all, to do with that. If VBox has a problem getting mouse activity from the host driver, there could be a problem, but that would be VBox, or the virtual mouse driver, not the USB driver, in the guest. If it stops happening, when you reduce the virtual screen resolution, that does indicate some sort of VBox problem.

What, exactly, is the configuration?

I agree that my issue is somewhere in VirtualBox. I should have pointed out that I don't enable the VB USB Controller for my ArcaOS virtual machines.
VB settings:
2 CPUs
2 GB RAM
VboxVGA graphics controller with 128 MB of video memory
Two virtual disks on SSD (AHCI controller)
Audio disabled
Intel PRO/1000 MT Desktop network adapter
COM1 enabled
USB disabled

Bennie, does your mouse work in a normal ArcaOS installation, without virtualization, on the same hardware?

(I guess, the same as Pete, that it's a VirtualBox issue on Redhat.)

I only run ArcaOS in virtual machines, so I cannot answer the question. I have had mouse pointer freezes using multiple:
mice, versions of ArcaOS, versions of VirtualBox, versions of Redhat, and Redhat video drivers.

The mouse pointer freezes have gone away when I dropped the video resolution to 1920x1200, as I noted in an earlier post. That does sound like there is an issue with the VB guest additions.

It certainly could be a conflict with some background process like a widget. When the mouse freezes, is the rest of the system working? Can you use the keyboard, for example? If so, can you run Top to see what activity shows up in the list?

Under virtualbox using the VB Guest Additions, the video driver is a customized version of gengradd. Which video driver are you using? Can you switch to one of the other available drivers?

After a time of stability, the mouse freezes returned. I decided to change the screen resolution from 2560 x 1440 in VirtualBox Full Screen mode to 1920 x 1200 in VirtualBox Scaled Mode, since the native resolution for the monitor is 2560 x 1440. It has been about two weeks without a mouse freeze condition occurring.

I am still investigating the shared Clipboard issue.
