While OAuth2 works for Gmail here, it does not work for Yahoo here... I must use SSL/TLS and Normal Password.  I just went about trying to switch to OAuth2 for Yahoo (and AIM mail) due to emails they sent about disabling my current access option.  I was unsuccessful in getting OAuth2 to work for these.  I guess I need to dig out my Linux system and try setting it up there and see if OAuth2 works on it (my searching came up with about 50/50 whether it should/would work).

According Google, theoretically, if your mail account has not "two-step verification" enable, Thunderbird would get access with "login with google" as usually it tries to do and all woud be ok with SSL and 0Auth. That is true in Linux and Windows but I could not to do with  OS/2 Thunderbird (the reported eternal checking password)

If your mail account has two-step verification enable, must be created an app password (16 characters) at your Google account page that will be used in place of your real password in Thunderbird and "normal password" will be used to connect to GMail. This is the only way that works for me.

Even in second case, different from what Google says and from what really happens with Thunderbird in Linux and Windows, when you try to set up another Gmail account in this  same OS/2 Thunderbird, you have to create an specific app password again.

Managed to crash TB after deleting and starting to recreate account. It was a simple OOM (out of memory) crash.
You might want to increase your VIRTUALADDRESSLIMIT to 2560 in config.sys and reboot to see if that helps the crash.

I tried VIRTUALADDRESSLIMIT=2560 but Thunderbird is still crashing when trying set up a Yahoo mail account. The only difference is the fact that now it beeps 3 times before crash. Attached is the 0041_01.TRP generated in \Programs\Thunderbird after crash.

Hi

I was just checking the IBM PC Card Director R5 and found this reference on the "Supported PC Cards" text file.

Of course, I have no idea how it works, I never have one of those.

This information is interesting Martin. I will check for more details. Until now I was checked only the old archived The Notebook/2 Site http://web.archive.org/web/20061019015429/http://www.os2ss.com/users/DrMartinus/nbdriver.htm#PCMCIA

Tried setting up a Yahoo mail account, no crash but it doesn't like my password. I'll try later with a fresh profile.

I tried with the same windows configuration: imap.mail.yahoo.com - port 993 - ssl - 0auth2 -> crash at the end of setup
I tried with port - 993 - normal password ( same as Gmail account) -> crash at the end of setup

Are there any other log to help or only Error Console?

I tried to set up Yahoo account in SeaMonkey too. Password is not accept.

Applications / Re: ODIN Revisited
« on: August 30, 2020, 07:00:23 pm »
Have people completely abandoned ODIN development or is there still someone maintaining the project? WINE has gone a long way as well as ReactOS during last years. I am wondering if it would be possible to make ODIN also more up to date with current software.

But the problem must usually be too few developers for OS/2 in general. For example, the only FileZilla built I was able to find is at alpha stage and very unusable. And the OS/2 version of Gimp is a very ancient version with very limited functionality.

I think WINE has not gone. At least CodeWeavers launched CrossOver v.19 this year https://www.codeweavers.com/about/support-wine

Solved! Thunderbird works with GMail with a "normal password" only if a specific app password is created for it in your Google account. I have to delete the specific password for Thunderbird that already existed in my account, create a new 16 characters one and then, with a new profile in Thunderbird, with this app specfific password and "normal password" option, finally, access my gmail account!

As I understood, for Google, each application running in a different OS, is another application.

Now I decided to set up an Outlook e-mail account. What happened? Nothing! All working as expected by automatic setup without any manual changes. I never imagined that a Microsoft product was a solution. I was not using this account and in fact it was only created for digital licence I have of W10. Now it seems I will have to redirect may GMail emails to Outlook if I want to use Thunderbird...

Rather than passwrodCleartext, choose OAuth2. That is what I use here, and had to change to some time ago.eternal

Hi Andy,

I have already tried with both types of password transmission with same result - account setup ends at an eternal " checking password". I don't think it's a Google problem. I have Thunderbird working with the same mail accounts in Linux and Windows (version 68.12.0). I think OS/2 Thunderbird/45.8.0 does not send the password correctly to Google.

Below the steps until the eternal " checking password"...

Ricoh RL5C746 is an old PCMCIA interface chip not an USB/mass media interface, it is sufficiently generic to work with some even older Ricoh PCMCIA drivers on Windows so there is a possibility it will do the same on OS/2.

BTW, the Audigy ZS Notebook is basically the same card as the later Soundblaster X-Fi Cardbus card except for the mechanical interface, I have one of those but no OS/2 based computer with a Cardbus interface to test it on.

Hi,

Ricoh RL5C746 PCMCIA interface chip used in Lenovo Thinkpad T61 as I said in my first post, is compatible with Intel PCIC driver (SS2PCIC1) available since OS/2 Warp 4 installation CD's. I had no problems to install SS2PCI1 in T61. Can be easily done with Selective Install.

What frustrated me was the poor support for pcmcia cards showed. Basically are supported cards for communications (ethernet, token-ring, fax-modem) and flash memory storages. I think it's useless this type of cards when we already have in T61 an ethernet port and other means to work with flash memory storage cards.

Althought, the SD card reader of T61 does not work within OS/2 (at least I didn't find anything about Ricoh R5C822 chip OS/2 support in my search), there are usb adapters to work with these cards, so nowadays, nobody really needs a flash memory pcmcia card.

A Fax/Modem pcmcia card would be useful I think, since internal CXT soft modem of T61 not works with OS/2. However an external usb modem is more easy to find (besides the fact that the only use I make today of a modem is to remotely access my old Paradox security system at home).

The only thing not usual I saw in the devices list was a Bondwell B236 Game Card Pcmcia that I never heard about.

So, I think try to do Audigy 2 ZS Notebook work with OS/2 PCMCIA ends up being a waste of time.

Below some screenshots of PCMCIA Plug and Play
Audigy is identified as a memory card (storage)

Nothing unusual there.

I tried now to set up a yahoo email account with the automatic  setup and thunderbird literally exploded at the end (DONE bottom). After new load Error Console show:

Last time I tried with Thunderbird, it worked fine. Currently I use pop to connect with Thunderbird, which other then occasionally getting a security warning from Google, works fine.
I also have SeaMonkey set to use imap with Gmail, which just works whenever I need it and enter my password. Google has never complained about it.
Server, imap.gmail.com, port 993
Connection type, SSL/TLS with a normal password
Don't remember having set anything at Google to allow this to work.
Does anything show up in the Error Console under Tools about it?

Hi Dave, Error console in Tools menu shows what is in the attached file!

A logo is not just protected by trademark but also by copyright.

There are differences in the legislation of trademarks from different countries, but there are basically three types:

Word Marks (only a name)
Design Marks (only a logo)
Composite Marks (words and logo)

I do not know about protection of a design (to use as a trademark)

Nice discussion.

I just remembered that here in Ecuador we used to have a fake McDonald's, that registered the name locally in the 80's. Once the US McDonald's arrived to Ecuador, on the late 90's, they were not able to much against the fake one. The both coexisted for some years until the US McDonald's offered the fake one some money.

Regards

There are some cases of this type all over the world! Here in Brazil "Land Rover" was registered at the time imported cars were banned. In Argentina, "Embratel" a trademark of a Brazilian Telecomunications State Company at this time, was registered too. Both were canceled by Patent and Trademark Offices.

Nowadays, after TRIP's (Agreement onTrade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights) in 1994 (GATT- Uruguay) these cases are not more common in signatory countries of the agreement
