Sidenote: Thanks for the pointer Wim.  Samuel Audet gave me permission and I also re-posted his website article on the EDM/2.

Setup & Installation / Re: Minimal config.sys
« on: May 19, 2016, 02:58:05 pm »
Hi

I did documented some config.sys but the idea was not to make it minimal, the idea was to support the aWarp, bWarp and cWarp experiments I did:

- AWarp Config.sys
- BWarp Config.sys
- CWarp Config.sys

It is not much.

Web applications / Re: Django
« on: May 13, 2016, 04:06:22 pm »
Hi

I haven't hear anything about it on the OS/2 news that I post here.

It seems that this frameworks run on Python 3 and Python 2.7.  According to some news a Python 2.7.2 port is available for OS/2.
But I can not know what else does this framework requires.

Django looks very nice to create database-driven websites, I was just reading about it on Wikipedia.  Maybe the best way to get out of the doubt is for someone with some experience with python to try it out on OS/2.

Hi

Now I'm getting what you mean with "Settings Notebook".

Do you like it as "Notebook"?. Because in my limited knowledge of OS/2 Programming those "Notebooks" was common on Warp 3 and the GUI was updated to use "tabs" on Warp 4.
I'm guessing that to create this you need to use the "Presentation Manager" functions.  Here are some articles about it

I don't know about creating  "Settings Notebook", but the good thing is that Nice Enhancer is open source and you can check its source code.

If you are looking some other libraries to assist your on development I think that you should take a look at the Qt Libraries that the community has ported to OS/2. There is ported Qt4 and some other development tool like Qt Creator (IDE) and Qt Designer (GUI).  There are other important visual development tool for the platform (and some may be easier), but I think that Qt has the advantage to be a project that as recognition outside the OS/2 community and it is also open source, while some other tools may be hard to find abandonware that are close source with no option to evolve.

General Discussion / EDM/2 Progress
« on: May 12, 2016, 02:59:31 pm »
Hi.

You all know the EDM/2 wiki, the community resource for OS/2 and eComStation development information.

I don't know if you follow the progress of the wiki on "Recent Changes" or it.  I just want to thank Andreas Kohl and Ólafur Gunnlaugsson for keep working on improving the wiki and complementing the OS/2 development information. They have been doing a great job for the latest months.

This is a great example of selfless work for the community.

Hi John.

What do you mean with "Settings Notebook" ?

All the public resources for OS/2-eCS are stored on the EDM/2 Wiki. We try to consolidate all software development information there. Let me know about your progress, maybe you can create an article for it in the future.

Hi

It is hard to get the IBM DUDE Driver Material.
I can not found anybody that tells that has something.

- OS/2 Adapter Device Drivers (ADD)
- OS/2 Physical Device Drivers (POD)
- OS/2 Virtual Device Drivers (VDD)
- OS/2 Graphics Accelerator Driver
- OS/2 MultiMedia Device Drivers
- OS/2 Physical Device Drivers (POD)
- OS/2 Device Managers/Filters (DMD/FLT)
- OS/2 SMP Device Drivers
- OS/2 Virtual Device Drivers (VDD)
- OS/2 Physical Device Drivers (POD)
- NDIS-MAC LAN Device Drivers
- OS/2 MultiMedia Device Drivers

I just found this (check attachment) but it is not much.

Thanks Wim.

cWarp keeps booting with your experimental TESTCFG.SYS. I updated my list of "Required Replacements" and also uploaded your code to GitHub.

General Discussion / Re: Forecast for Arca Noae's OS/2

Hi Richard

I wish there was a list of hardware (similar to the hardware compatibility list) where we could take a non-working device and try to analyze it.

You can give it a try to use the OS2World Wiki (with the same userid and password of this forum) to make some "sandboxing" of your idea. It is a MediaWiki script just like Wikipedia.

You can give it a try and I will check your progress and If I can improve / organize your post in any way I will try to.

Setup & Installation / Re: NIFS for Intel NICS
« on: April 26, 2016, 08:01:34 pm »
Hi

It is too bad, but on the OS2World wiki the Network cards adapter page is not organized.

But the network drivers (Included the NIF files, but the real driver is the .OS2 file) are on hobbes:

Hi Jan-Erik.

This experiment it is not about functionality, it is more about replacing components to have a "set of basic functionality" with replacements.

Martin, the rexxutil.dll is older and crippled.
Do you mean the Open Source REXXUTIL.DLL clone? Maybe it is crippled since I don't know it in detail since I don't have experience with REXX. But I can not agree it is older. From what I see on the binaries IBM REXXUTIL.DLL is from "9-06-2000 12:42    1999.518152034    68,119 bytes" while OSS Clone REXXUTIL.DLL is "3-06-2008 9:40p    2.10.1    68,482 bytes" (Source) If there is a newer IBM REXXUTIL.DLL let me know so I can update the EDM/2 wiki.

For me is as basic as "Good close source/abandonware software can not be improved. Bad open source software can be improved."

One should negotiate with the one that "own" OS/2 object rexx and get the parts that differ from the ones that was open sourced to rexxla.org and incorporate their improvements.

The one that owns OS/2 Object REXX is IBM, they are not currently releasing any source code from OS/2. If you know the person in charge of Object REXX that has contacts within IBM maybe I can talk to him, but for the moment I don't have faith on IBM releasing source code.

Setting away the topic from my cWarp experiment. My person opinion (which can be discussed on other thread) is to start moving to REGINA REXX slowly. Let's migrate any script that is currently used in REXX and that can be moved to REGINA without too much trouble now, and lets grow the Regina interest. From other discussion that we had (2014 - Regina REXX vs. OS/2 REXX) we have the following challenges with REGINA:

1) All the OS/2 REXX scripts should need to be adapted for Regina.
2) Every app in "Object REXX" will fail running over Regina. Plus we don't have "Open Object Rexx" ported.
3) While OS/2 REXX is integrated with the os, Regina is a separate executable. A better integration needs to be created.

I know this is the area of "Fixing what is not broken" and people are scared to comment or try, but again, I prefer bad open source code over good abandonware. (personal taste).  I think it can be great if someone can take the REGINA Flag inside the OS/2 community and start doing experiments and try different things.

Thanks Wim

I will be trying that file on the experiment.

Hi

If it is the "The Os/2 Warp 4 Cid Software Distribution Guide" it is already there, it is a public redbook.

But if you have any other IBM's OS/2 related publication that is not available online, I can try to ask permission to IBM to republish it here.
