Hi Martin,

I'm getting an error message when trying to visit your new wiki page - it seems like you have an errant ["] in the link URL (i.e. it doesn't like the quote symbol that you're using, it's translating it to [%22] but that's not working properly).

https://www.os2world.com/wiki/index.php?title=Kensington_CSMT-2_Compact_Wafer_Transfer_Sorting_Mapping_Tool_Sorter_8%22_-_167586

It looks like the OS2Voice FTP server is down at the moment, I'm not sure when it was last online. And unfortunately I can't find that particular file archived anywhere else. Maybe someone else has it that can provide it, or perhaps send an email to the OS2Voice site owner. Although having tried to find that, it looks like the entire site is presently down! https://www.os2voice.org is going nowhere for me at present - it might be worth giving it a day or so for Lewis to get the site up and running again.

Networking / Re: Can not connect to TCP/IP - DHCP Client

Hi Martin,

That's odd, I would honestly have expected it to *stop* being able to ping its own address when you disconnected the device. I'm afraid I don't have one of those USB-to-Ethernet devices so I can't do any further testing with you, hopefully someone else can help further!

Richard.

Hi Martin,

First test: assign your device a static IP address rather than DHCP. Then, from an OS/2 Command Prompt, trying pinging that IP address - that will tell you whether the TCP/IP stack is fully functional.

If you can't even ping your own IP address then you have a TCP/IP stack problem and we can investigate further. If you *can* ping your own IP address then try pinging your router next. That will then tell you whether you simply have a DHCP issue.

Good luck, and let us know the results of that!

Richard.

Thanks Roderick, indeed I make sure *not* to have that line in my CONFIG.SYS!

Best wishes,
Richard.

Thanks Kim,

Where is this screenshot from - is this from your own collection?

Are you able to expand on what any of those additional items are?

Thanks,
Richard.

To echo Dariusz's point, could you tell us exactly what version of OS/2, MPTS/LAPS and TCP/IP you're running. Running SYSLEVEL from the command prompt will tell you if you're not sure. Alternatively tell us what FixPaks you've applied and we can work it out from there.

Alex's guide is indeed excellent and I have used it many times myself to work out exactly what level of MPTS & TCP/IP I can safely reach with any given version of OS/2!

WebSphere - thanks, yes, I wonder how many different webservers I'll actually be able to install! I think Domino 4.6 also comes with DominoGo, but I will also see if I can install both WebSphere and the IBM Apache HTTPd port on different TCP ports :-)

Pete - many thanks for your message!

Best,
Richard.

Thanks very much Remy, Pete and Martin.

I'll certainly add WorkSpace On-Demand if I can track down a copy.

Pete - if Martin allows, then I'd definitely appreciate a copy of what you have please, even if only to compare it against other sources I'm finding.

Thanks very much for everyone's help.

Richard.

Replying to myself: having done a little more reading this evening I'm going to try following the steps under HPFS386 How-To from here:
https://www.edm2.com/index.php/CONFIG.SYS_-_Other_Information

I'll update this post tomorrow with progress.

I'm setting-up a new Warp Server for e-Business 4.52 onto which I'm planning to install a whole host of IBM products from its time, just for a bit of fun ;D . I've got Domino 4.6, DB2 7.1, and the DominoGo WebServer which I'll install alongside.

I've run into a bit of an issue which is that apparently Domino 4.6 requires HPFS386, but my installation media for WSeB 4.52 only contain plain old fashioned HPFS.

I also happen to have a genuine boxed copy of Warp Server Advanced v4, and I know from experience that that does come with HPFS386, but I also know that's Warp 3 era code, so unlikely to be the same HPFS386 for WSeB 4.52.

I've subsequently found out that HPFS386 was apparently an add-on for WSeB, and it was sold as "386 HPFS Upgrade" with IBM part number CD6H0NA. It's actually available on BetaArchive and whilst I have a login for BetaArchive I don't have download rights :(

Does anyone here possibly have a copy of that CD that they'd be willing to either archive, donate, or sell me?

Or failing that, does anyone know any other legitimate way to get HPFS386 installed on WSeB 4.52?

Thanks!
Richard.

Mounting a drive to your NAS could be "problematic". I never got it to work against my QNAP but others here have had success. You'll need to install either IBM Peer for OS/2 or IBM LAN Requester for OS/2 in order to get the actual "net use" command which is what you need. And you'll need to crank down all the security on your NAS since Warp Connect only supports SMB1 and NTLMv1.

You may find it easier to simply connect via FTP - you should have command line FTP and PMFTP with Warp Connect.

Personally I tend to run FTPd on Warp Connect as a background service and "push" files onto my Warp Connect PC from my modern Windows desktop using FileZilla or equivalent. If you need instructions for that (where to find the settings) then just shout.

Hi Mark,

I know from experience that the 3C589D drivers are very buggy so you did the right thing to swap to a Xircom. I've got a few Xircom PCMCIA and CardBus cards and have never had problems with OS/2 Warp Connect with them.

They definitely don't need any additional PCMCIA card/socket drivers so you definitely want to make sure that all of that is uninstalled (disabled might not be enough).

Fire-up Selective Install and make sure PCMCIA support looks like the photo below. This is how I have it on my IBM ThinkPad 390X with a Xircom R2BE-100BTX and you can see it's pinging away quite merrily over TCP/IP.

Make sure too that you're using exactly the right driver for your Xircom PCMCIA or CardBus NIC. They have very similar model names but the right drivers aren't interchangable. For example the driver for an RBE won't work for an R2BE and vice versa.

Best,
Richard.

ClearHDD is another great tool to clear a drive - I use this all the time to quickly wipe a drive before installing OS/2 and it works great.

Here's the Vogons thread:
https://www.vogons.org/viewtopic.php?t=27285

And here's the direct link to ClearHDD:
https://www.vogons.org/download/file.php?id=8595

Pop it on a DOS boot floppy, boot with the disk and run the following to clear drive 0 (the first IDE drive in the system):

A:\>ClearHDD 0
