Title: Citrix Multiuser 2.0 Problems
Post by: vlad557776 on April 12, 2019, 05:38:40 pm
Hello.

A few days ago I found a copy of Citrix Multiuser 2.0 based on OS/2 2.x.

But, at the end of install it gives me following error that is featured at error.png.

The last page of log is included in log.png.

Can somebody help me?

What file system are you using and how large of a hard drive?
You need to use HPFS (HPFS386?) and a small HD, 4.3Gbs?

At the picture there's FAT, but on later installation I changed type to HPFS. My VM hard drive is only 20 MB.

Seal, I have never used it so I would not be of further help.  Just curious, have you used the program in the past or is it something you heard about and wanted to try.

Dave suggested you may need HPFS386.  The advantages over HPFS are

Larger cache sizes
Direct connection between the filesystem and the network
Local security (need an account to access files, even at the machine)

I am just collecting OSes. By the way, there's no function "HPFS386". There's only FAT and standard HPFS/

Well, I'd put my money on HPFS386 being the pre-requisite FS...it supports ACLs and it appears to be the required feature in the Citrix install.

Seal, HPFS386 is an enterprise version of the standard HPFS filesystem. It supports larger cache sizes, ACLs as well as direct interface between LAN and the FS (communication happens at a different RING level, therefore it is faster than the standard HPFS when used in a networking environment).

This used to be an optional install and present on all the server media.

I don't have it in my disks. I have install disk, disk 1a, 1b, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, supplemental drivers and supplemental disk. Install is using only  1a, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6. These supplemental disks are for some "remote debug facility". I don't know why there is 7th disk, it don't have any sort of setup.

That's to small, please use a proper partition size (200 - 400 MB). When using VirtualBox the host adapter support should be changed to the BusLogic SCSI adapter. LADDR support on the installation disks needs to be updated by including BOOTBID.BID. Using ESDI-506.BID for emulated IDE drives can cause more problems including the symptoms shown on the mentioned pictures. Furthermore the serial ports for communication should be setup properly in VM configuration.

Okay, I put the BOOTBID on wrong disk. I installed it on different disk and now it's booting. But I cannot still pass this security error, and I don't have option to choose HPFS386. Here's what I get at filesystem choose:

I installed using Bochs.  Use a sub 500MB disk.

I put the disk images up on archive.org after I'd bought the package

https://archive.org/details/CitrixMultiuser20

The kernel is the OS/2 LA, which means that the executable format and layout changed, so it won't run anything from the GA.  This isn't the 32bit OS/2 you are looking for.  Of interest (to me) is that Citrix got it's OS/2 license though Microsoft, and this OS/2 is 100% IBM branded.  Meaning that by the time of LA, Microsoft was 100% out of the OS/2 market.

It's okay for multitasking 16bit OS/2 and MS-DOS stuff.  DooM will run on the console, and there is the start of Win-OS/2 in this release as well, but it's more like 2.1 for Windows, in that you have to bring your own copy of Windows 3.0.   I used it to play SimCity for Windows on the console, while connected and mucking around with Fortran 5.1.

I don't know if they had updates to do DOS graphics over the terminals, the sales stuff sure insinuates it was going to happen, but I have no idea if it shipped.  Just as I have no idea if the kernel ever was updated to the GA.

Sorry, that's not what I want. I will use it for now, but it will better be installed on my VirtualBox.
