« on: May 28, 2016, 09:02:41 pm »
Hi Joop.

https://github.com/bitwiseworks/mozilla-os2/releases/tag/FIREFOX_38_8_0esr_RELEASE_OS2_Beta_7

Hint to others, if you get error messages re file errors, missing files, or corrupt DLL's and you have already installed the required library's. Try backing up your previous FF 38.x.x and unzip the new zip file over the top of it. That fixed the DLL error messages for me. 38.8 is working well here so far.

Install the libc066 & gcc4core, fontconfig and cairo/pango/icu files from Steve's site at  http://os2news.warpstock.org/Warpzilla.html

Until now I've always unzipped firefox*.zip after renaming my old firefox directory.
The latest firefox zip seems to be missing some DLL's that shipped with previous versions.
Using the previous version of Firefox's DLL's appears to work with no errors at all.

Hi Ivan,

I won't comment about MBA's, I'm doing something different :)
I'm quite happy over in the Science and Engineering parts of uni.

Hmm, this new Firefox 38.8 doesn't ok, now it does have spelling check.

Hint to others, backup your previous FF 38.x.x and unzip the new zip file over the top of it. That fixes the the DLL error messages.
Been working well here the last few hours.

My comments are for FF 38.2.1 and latest AOO. Both have DLL's marked loadhi.

I only have VIRTUALADDRESSLIMIT=1536 in my main OS/2 box, which is getting a solid workout with University assignments and other work at present. FF and AOO are both running fine under load, AOO gets the biggest workout as I'm darting into various documents and spreadsheets but I do turn my computer off everynight.

I'm using many uni related websites for quizz's, unit management, tuts etc, as well as my normal comic/news/security sites all without problem.

The only problem I have noticed is related to LinkedIn, were if I scroll down a lengthy page if goes into a 100% load but will after a few minutes give me a 'Script Busy, end or continue' type message. I normally kill FF as it's quicker and restart it.

I don't use YUM but manually update dll's from rpm/zip files as required.
If I need to go yum then I think it would be easier with a clean OS/2 install, this main OS/2 install of mine was installed in the early 90's and has simply been xcopied over the years to new harddisks as I've upgraded my hardware so it's customised the way I like it. With the O/S upgraded as new drivers etc have arrived.

Unfortunately I have also discovered that the only browser that works with everything is Chrome. Sometimes I have to boot a linux box for some uni related websites, though I have noted they are only some UWA's Business school related websites, everything else from engineering/science/admin works fine under FF.

I'm using Thunderbird.

"Could not connect to server news.ecomstation.nl; the connection was refused."

I don't hop on the newsgroups much these days as life is busy, which is why I normally only check about once a month.

I'll add :-      and with some persistence I am now connected.

I stand corrected then :)

It must be in  a quantum state, just tried again but no connection, checking prior posts the last time I was able to connect looks like 4th March 2015.
Maybe I should try more than once a month.

Hi Eric,

I noticed it vanished quite a while ago, I don't expect to see it return.

Applications / Re: Which program to use for ripping audio CDs to flac?
« on: September 11, 2015, 06:24:01 pm »
So far I've digitised 119 LP's to 32bit wave files, then used JRipper to convert them to FLAC for archiving, and MP3 for passing on to everyday listening.
Haven't had a single problem, well, not with flac conversion.

And after checking, over 184 CD's ripped to Flac and mp3's.

I still cant get David Parsons PMUniMixer binary to work, just tried the latest one from pmunimix-bin-0_70.zip (his latest one on hobbes).
I seem to have no problems with some programs that others do, and problems with programs that work fine for others.
To busy at present to worry about it when my older programs still do the job.

Added

ding ding

JRipper might be the program I had to edit out a directory seperater '\' somewhere in the code, I don't think it actually worked at all for flac originally but that might be a totally separate problem to yours if you can get it to work at least once, as I don't think mine worked at all in the beginning with ripping CD's to whatever, or maybe I'm thinking of something else entirely different.

Hi Ivan

The file is a reasonably normal cmd file for java apps, might not even be needed but note there is a setting for LookAndFeel

Ignore the 'SET DIRCMD=' at the top if you dont do strange things with your dir command line :)

Hi Andi,

jRipper works fine for me, currently using Java 1.6
have you edited the jRipper cmd file ?

The cdda2wav file I'm using is

24/08/07  19:38     218092           0  cdda2wav.exe

and the version of flac is

28/12/12  21:51    1030721           0  flac.exe

both are set in jrippers setup paths.

Those photos are the ones I can put up with people 'pinching', my main photographic website
requires access information :)

Will try the above programs this weekend, have a few other things I said I'd do to still do yet
