Programming / Re: DropBox problem
« on: January 05, 2017, 04:04:05 pm »
When you create a resource for dropbox, it is of type dbox, not local. If you do not have dbox, then you need to install the plugin.

You will supply the secrets file you created with the Dropbox authorize and the registration name and code you got from BitWise.

I have it working here. Same version as you.

Did you run the NetDrive control panel to mount your local dropbox directory?

I have found that if it gets stuck, then I revert to Firefox 31 to login, and I specify to keep me logged in. Then I go back to Firefox 38, where the apps run better (or run at all) as opposed to Firefox 31.

I changed my Firefox program object from Firefox!K.exe to Firefox!LK.exe, which runs Firefox with LIBPATHSTRICT. iCloud access now works.

Before rpm/yum was commonly used on OS/2, if you wanted Python, the readme said to put a Set PythonHome=... statement in your config.sys. I know I've had it in my config.sys when installing rpm/yum with the bootstrap and it has caused a few problems.

Setup & Installation / Re: Help installing old software
« on: December 17, 2016, 03:28:16 pm »
To some extent, that is the reason I made Suntan Special, to commit the memory of how to do the command line installation of all the old OS/2 software. Suntan Special installs software using a custom Rexx program for each application. In some cases with the Feature Installer a custom response file is also included.

They might not be new but there are a couple of laptops with eComStation pre-installed.

Arca Noae has software for eCS - OS/2
https://www.arcanoae.com/

It would be nice to get a computer with eComStation or Blue Lion pre-installed.
Thanks for the mention. I've got the last laptops to support WiFi on eCS. Even so, they are old. I'm not interested in Windows 10. I use an iPhone instead. I'm more interested in interoperability between devices. FWIW, buy a good OS/2 machine and maybe a Windows 10 phone if you must have Windows.

When Blue Lion is released, I plan to offer pre-loaded laptops.

Events / Re: Any questions for Warpstock 2016 ??
« on: November 02, 2016, 05:47:58 pm »
Warpstock 2016 begins this week on Friday. This is the only gathering of it's kind in North America. The list of presenters and sessions has grown, and now includes some time for participants to bring their own issues, questions and comments.

The main web page for Warpstock 2016 is here. Instructions and a link to watch the conference on-line will be posted there.

http://www.warpstock.org/staticpages/index.php?page=ws2016_home

At an early session, we will ask each attendee why they came to Warpstock and if they would like to present or request a discussion. Subsequent sessions will be reserved to cover topics proposed by attendees.

Why did you come to Warpstock?
Tell us how you use OS/2 or eComStation.
Do you want to give a presentation? Title of presentation?
Do you have a question to discuss? Question (or questions) to be discussed?
Do you bring a laptop or other system that is a problem system? Describe problem?

There is a little room in the schedule for these questions and discussion. The list of activities will grow as we make last minute changes.

Best regards,
Warpstock board of directors

Using SMPlayer, I can play streams like Kitten Academy Live Stream. For about five seconds. Then it stops. If I hit play, I get five seconds more, then it stops.

Hardware / Re: Format 64gb Thumb Drive
« on: October 11, 2016, 04:12:04 pm »
I'm using USB external hard disks in a 2.5 inch format, and I always have to use DFSee to wipe at least the first part of the drive. Big drives need their geometry set, but 64GB is small. After that MiniLVM has no problem creating a JFS partition. The advantage to using an external instead of a thumb drive is that it copies about 10 times faster.

That said, network backup is preferable.

Thinkpad T540p BIOS configuation screens

I think these are OK, but since I still can't get the machine to boot, I'm posting my BIOS settings.

I have tried another hard drive. Basically the same result. DFSee does not report any Geometry issues. The disk boots fine on the X200, but stops short of displaying the PSD lines at boot time.

An issue has been raised at Arca Noae. https://mantis.arcanoae.com/view.php?id=545
