Same here. vCompat did the trick.

The one small note: https://en.ecomstation.ru/personal/kiewitzsoft/vdd-vcompat.php has v0.32b of vCompat; https://ecsoft2.org/vcompat has v0.35b.

BTW (sheer curiosity), when did Martin Kiewitz stop coding for OS/2 / eCS / ArcaOS ? Let's thank him for vCompat that proves useful many years after its "final" version.

Did you try AOO 4.1.2 rather than the older 4.1.11?  I ask because I see no reason to use the older version.
4.1.11 is the latest one provided by BWW

I have been using this version since it came out and no issues.

Have you tried a reinstall ?

Hope you get it sorted out.

Rene

Uninstalled. Rebooted. No problem.

Re-installed. Shut down. No problem.

Restarted, Got the IFX error...

Hello, I re-contributed to BWW and downloaded the AOO 4.1.11. Uninstalled the 4.x version I had before (cannot remember which one it was, maybe 4.2 ?), then installed this version, started the spreadsheet to check everything was OK.

Just like for the previous 4.x install, the WPS did not close properly after uninstallation - new installation (only things I had done in the session) - I got the window that prompts the user to confirm/input the location of the desktop folder, and the OS did not shut down properly (Ctrl + Alt + Del it was).

After the reboot, the INI checker pointing out a problem and suggesting to go back one version in the INI files, which I did. Stopped on a black screen, another ctrl + alt + del and the desktop appears. Of course, afterwards, no more icons in the program group for AOO.

Has someone had that problem with the AOO warpin installer ?

Which might explain Martin's result with JFS.
Going to have to do some more experimenting and talk to Arca Noae, JFS shouldn't crash the PMSHELL. At least it didn't trap.
I will retest on HPFS after disabling that DSK_LIMIT_ENABLE...
Nope, still negative space and LSS not wanting to install. At least it does not crash the WinOS/2 session...

Lewis has rebuilt the database at 2rosenthals.com so can disable netlabs release and enable the mirror at https://repos.arcanoae.com/release/$releasever/. See https://www.arcanoae.com/wiki/anpm/ for more info
Edit: Might need a "yum clean" to get working

I still get an error, after removing the Netlabs server. I wish that Lewis, in the same way that ArcaOS ISO images are generated with the serial number automatically online, could create a way to automatically generate ANPM configuration files, with identifiers, proper servers, etc..

I think, .VXD drivers cannot be loaded but .386 should do (maybe that also depends how the driver mucks with the OS. I am fairly sure the BC debugger uses that .386 driver to hook into the Windows kernel). But you will need to start Windows in extended mode. I forgot how to do that in OS/2 but I think you can configure that via the DOS/WIN settings for your Win31 object.
What is "extended" mode? There is "enhanced" mode, but this is already the default..

Hello

Thanks for the testing. I always wanted to discuss more about Win-OS/2.

I still don't know if it is only an issue of a big HDD, or the format HPFS vs JFS. Or is it a mix of both?
Do you think a ticket should be open to Arca Noae? Do we have enough information to report some bug/limitation?

Can the 2GBFix issue be related to this ticket too?
https://mantis.arcanoae.com/view.php?id=3636

Regards

Maybe, but given that V2GB lets DOS programs see a negative amount of space on the drive, I'd say something changed in ArcaOS that prevents both 2GBFix and V2GB from "working properly". In a perfect world, ArcaOS would already include a driver to make programs in DOS / WinOS2 see just their 2GB or free space without users having to fiddle with these older programs.

Bob's active on alt.folklore.computers, never mentions OS/2.
Are you using the latest, ver 1.3? Look at the readme.txt, at the end is the history. Or use bldlevel v2gb.sys.
Source is available and a BSD style license.

Isn't that what the line "LOADHIGH C:\sys\MDOS\BIN\2GBFIX.COM >NUL" in the autoexec.bat is supposed to do?  What is the difference between these two drivers?
That's correct, the 2GBFIX one is simpler, the sys driver more flexible if memory serves
I switched 2GBfix for V2GB. In my case somehow, it now sees my C drive with negative space, which does not help at all.. Is Bob Eager still coding for OS/2?

No problems encountered except PM groups were not created, did you guys remember to install from a full screen session?
Tried both the nordic and Lotus SmartSuite 4.0 (1996-08-02) (ISO) version from Winworld
I downloaded and installed under full screen windows.  It had problems installing the icons, but I kept hitting the OK button and they finally installed.  I did not install under a virtual environment, but under a normal ArcaOS 5.1 partition.

One thing I have installed is this dos driver. Since Windows 3.1 is primarily a shell over dos, I figured this driver could only help.

The V2GB.SYS virtual device driver
==================================

Overview
--------

The purpose of this driver is to provide a solution to the problem
caused by the inability of many DOS programs to handle a partition in
excess of 2GB in size.  This causes spurious reports of insufficient
disk space.

Isn't that what the line "LOADHIGH C:\sys\MDOS\BIN\2GBFIX.COM >NUL" in the autoexec.bat is supposed to do?  What is the difference between these two drivers?

I tried full screen, same problem. Plus the additional problem of full screen sessions with VBox, where my mouse cursor stays in the upper half of the virtual screen and moves half the distance it should vertically, making any control through mouse almost impossible..

I learned back in my Win 3.1 days to make backups of win.ini, system.ini, config.sys and autoexec.bat files as Windows breaks so easily. Have you checked autoexec.bat? Mine,
Code: [Select]
@ECHO OFF
ECHO.
PROMPT $i$p$g
REM SET DELDIR=C:\DELETE,512;D:\DELETE,512;E:\DELETE,512;F:\DELETE,512;G:\DELETE
,512;H:\DELETE,512;K:\DELETE,512;M:\DELETE,512;N:\DELETE,512;O:\DELETE,512;P:\DE
LETE,512;Q:\DELETE,512;R:\DELETE,512;S:\DELETE,512;T:\DELETE,512;W:\DELETE,512;X
:\DELETE,512;Y:\DELETE,512;Z:\DELETE,512;
SET WIN3DIR=W:\OS2\MDOS\WINOS2
PATH=W:\OS2;W:\OS2\MDOS;W:\;W:\OS2\MDOS\WINOS2;W:\sys\MDOS\BIN;W:\TCPIP\DOS\BIN;
LOADHIGH APPEND W:\OS2;W:\OS2\SYSTEM
SET TMP=W:\var\temp
LOADHIGH W:\sys\MDOS\BIN\2GBFIX.COM >NUL
LOADHIGH DOSKEY FINDFILE=DIR /A /S /B $*
DOSKEY EDIT=QBASIC/EDITOR $*
SET DIRCMD=/A
SET TEMP=W:\OS2\MDOS\WINOS2\TEMP
SET ETC=W:\TCPIP\DOS\ETC

Adjust boot drive letter.

Today I would back up\os2\mdos before doing any test installs. A simple zip works.

Dave, thank you, you pointed me into the right direction. After commenting out the extra PATH statements, WinOS/2 started again. If you look at my autoexec, the programs installed their addition to the path as being in front of the other ones. I put all the additional path statements after the other ones, and it started again. So, some executable sharing its name with a WinOS/2 one, I suppose.

The only remaining problem now is that message (from Borland C++, see screenshot) even though the said line is in my system.ini...
