Hardware / Re: Monitor suggestions
« on: November 13, 2024, 08:14:06 pm »
Hi Per

A few years back I had a monitor that was failing. Sometimes at Power On I had a blank screen other times the screen was a "white out". This happened less often during reboots.

I initially thought the graphics card was failing but that tested OK in 2 other systems. I then swapped monitors and the problem moved to the system that I had swapped monitors with. Turned out to be a power supply intermittently failing in the monitor.

Could it be the monitor rather than the RX 580 graphics card 'showing signs of "giving up"'?

Regards

Pete

Hi Per

I seem to recall reading somewhere that some recent/current graphics cards will only work properly with a UEFI bios. Cannot find where I read that though to double check...

If the above is right are you using the rx 7800xt with a UEFI system?

No, Sorry, cannot recommend any particular current graphics card.

Hi Per

The issues with the rx 7800xt are more likely to be a graphics card failing than cheap/dodgy cables.

You could check that the graphics card is seated in slot correctly.

Hi Per

I am pleased with the Dell p2222h monitor I bought a few months back so am happy to suggest Dell as a brand - possibly this may be of interest  https://www.dell.com/en-uk/shop/dell-32-4k-uhd-gaming-monitor-g3223q/apd/210-bdxs/monitors-monitor-accessories

Hi Per

I think "XHCI Hand-off" passes control of usb3 controllers to OS drivers when they load so should be Enabled.
But I guess the easy answer is Suck it and See  :-)

Hi Martin

In response to your request for the lsusb report on the Logitech M570 trackball please find attached lsbout_Logitech.txt

I am guessing that the trackball info is in the Logitech Unifying Receiver report as it does not appear anywhere else in the lsusb output.

Hi Jochen

I tried starting ClassicCube and was rewarded with this message

"Some required resources weren't found
OK to download?"

What are the "required resources"?

Applications / Re: XWP 1.0.17: any availability date ?
« on: November 09, 2024, 12:31:45 am »
Hi All

Copy'N'Paste is even easier if you have a 5 button mouse eg Logitech M570 trackball  - see https://www.trackballmouse.org/logitech-wireless-trackball-m570/ - as you can set buttons 4 & 5 to do the Copy and Paste in the System Setup -> Mouse object.

May also be worth remembering that Shift+Delete will Cut selected text in an entryfield and Shift+Insert will Paste it elsewhere - don't forget to paste it back into the original entryfield if it is needed there  :-)

Hi Martin

Looking at https://www.os2world.com/wiki/index.php?title=Dell_Slim_Soundbar_SB521A I think you need to correct the "with Netlabs' USB Drivers" to something like "with Netlabs' USB Drivers - latest versions are usually found at https://www.hobbesarchive.com/?search=usbdrv".

Reasons: Earlier Netlabs (Lars) build, v10.250, did not work and the Netlabs page only links to https://hobbesarchive.com/ rather than the location of the latest package - just trying to make it easy for people to find the working drivers.

Hi Lars

Installed the sdl2*.dll files from SDL2_2-0-4_2020-09-07 which work at least as well as the SDL2_2-0-4_20160225 files they replaced.
Going by file sizes and dates only sdl2.dll has changed.

Hi Martin

I have been told that the following line in the lsusb output indicates that it is a USB1.0 device so uses USBAUDIO.SYS
   bcdADC = 1

Hi Martin

Following USB Audi driver updates available from Lars - not sure if they are actually available for download yet - I can report my Dell Slim Soundbar SB521A - https://www.dell.com/en-uk/shop/dell-slim-soundbar-sb521a/apd/520-aasi/pc-accessories - works when plugged into a USB2 port on my system box.
It does not work when plugged into a USB3 port or when using the AN supplied USBAUDIO-12.16 driver.

Hi Lars

I deleted the sdl2*.dll files that starfighter definitely uses and updated SDL2 to 2.28.1-1 then tried running Starfighter.
Result: Error window displayed stating Cannot start J:\Games.eCS\StarFighter\starfighter.exe ...

Dropped starfighter.exe onto the PMdll object which shows starfighter needs the following files to run
sdl2.dll
sdl2mix.dll
sdl2img.dll

The above are not included in SDL2 2.28.1-1
Maybe you already have those somewhere on the libpath? - Or am I missing some sort of "forwarder" dll file where calls to sdl2*.dll files get passed to sdl2200.dll?

Regards

Pete
