Hi All,
based on my patches to MySQL 5.5, I updated the source to 5.6.46 and OS/2 binaries are available from http://smedley.id.au/tmp/mysql-5.6.46-os2-20191026.zip
This is very lightly tested, but so far at least, appears to work OK.
Not sure how many people are still running MySQL on OS/2?
Cheers,
Paul

Thanks Paul, still busy figuring out how to set up and converting existing databases or card boxes to sql databases. I seems all not that easy. When I have a sql database I can go figuring out how to connect with Java programs, there are some programs which do run very well with our version of OpenJDK.

In the readme "For new users, to create the initial databases, unzip mysql_sample_database.zip in the mysql51 directory which will create a 'data' directory". This is from an older distribution and can not be found in the new.
An other thing which puzzles me is the size;
mysql-5.1.72-os2-20130925.zip - 26.859.072
mysql-5.6.46-os2-20191026.zip - 64.230.836
What happened between those two that it grow more than twice the size? And this is just an zip file.

Hi Joop,
I think you will find the large version is compiled as a debug version.

Main reason is that in mysql 5.1; we built a DLL that all the client utilities shared. The build system changed in 5.5+ to cmake, and at this point in time, I haven't adapted things to use a DLL. Hence all the client utilities grew a little :)
I also forgot to lxlite the executables (although this probably wouldn't change the zip file size much).
Cheers,
Paul

Hi Paul,
Been using MySQL 5.1 for a long time (installed originally by AMPOS/2) but never was able to figure out how to update the database past 5.1. Was able to install 5.6 with a newly created database and it seems to work OK - can open it with phpmyadmin and manipulate things as before. Thanks for the update!

You should be able to copy over the data directory from mysql 5.1 to 5.6; then restart mysqld - you'll get a bunch of errors/warnings; but running mysql_upgrade should fix those....
Cheers,
Paul.

Tried that, but ended up with a bunch of errors, and an 'upgrade failed' message. Having read about it some more, I think it needs to be upgraded one version at a time - can't go from 5.1 directly to 5.6, need to do each version in sequence... need to check that.

That may be the case - there's a 5.5 port on my site.... I did upgrade 5.1 -> 5.5 -> 5.6
If I remember tonight, I'll try the 5.1 -> 5.6 upgrade and see if I get the same error.
Cheers,
Paul.
