Hi..  I have some brand new HP Z2 G9 workstations that I can try ARCA OS on... but I need UEFI support first (I know, I know, it's coming!).  Can't switch to BIOS mode on these new ones it appears.

Has Intel Core i7-12700 in it. 12th gen.

Personally I think WIFI is the biggest thing, followed by multiple monitor support, and then USB-C accessories.

Thank you for work on any of the hardware!!

Ok here's one text file of the output of pci.exe from a machine.

HP Folio 9470m laptop
HP Part Number:  D3K33UT#ABA

Intel Core I7-3687U 2.1GHz
12GB RAM

BIOS Settings Changed:
SecureBoot is disabled
Boot Mode is set to Legacy
SATA Device Mode set to IDE

Let me know if this is good and if any other info about the machine would be helpful.  Thanks.

Hi!

I'm sorry, it is 5.0.7 I'm using. I'll update the original post.  I apologize for the confusion.

I'll work to get the pci.exe output for you too.

I find I almost always have to turn of AHCI for the drive to be seen in the installer.  Sometimes need to turn off Hyperthreading too.  I'll document what BIOS changes I had to make for each system too.

Thanks.  I appreciate a lively bunch and glad people are active out there!

Hardware / Some successful installs with ArcaOS 5.0.7
« on: January 27, 2023, 10:32:34 pm »
Hi all,

Maybe someone can copy and paste this into the Wiki, but I've tested installation ArcaOS 5.0.7 on a number of machines.  Here are my results:

Successful installations:
Thinkpad x301 type 2776-L9U
Intel NUC NUC5i5RYH
HP ProDesk 400 G3 T4L77UT#ABA
Dell Lattitude something (have to check the model)

Ethernet wired LAN works... wifi does not.  Sound works.

Have to follow standard guidance... disable AHCI in BIOS, delete all partitions on the drive before installing, etc.

Failed installations:
HP Compaq dc5150

Hope this might help someone out there.....

Edited to include full ArcaOS version number (5.0.7 instead of 5.0)

Ok cool, I can mess around with that kind of thing.

Ok please don't be upset with me...  I've never compiled anything in my life.    What do I need?  What type of existing programs should I be looking for? (Like stuff written in C or ...?)

I have an ArcaOS 5 system here that I can do whatever I need to with.  I also have Windows 10/11 and Ubuntu systems.

Any suggested reading as well?

Thanks again.

Hi I'd love to... Is this something a non programmer can do?  I'm more of a administrator then a programmer.

If there is an application out there that is available on windows, Linux and macosx, can they recompile for os/2 or is it a complicated thing?

Ok got it.  QT WebEngine is based on Chromium.

I'll try out Dooble. Thanks.

Ahh yes Mono...

Is there a chromium browser port in progress somewhere still?  I thought I read about it but haven't found a release for it.

I think that's what I need the most to make OS/2 an almost daily-driver.

Thanks...

Hi...!

I have an account for the forum, but it doesn't work on the home page nor for the Wiki.  I recently installed ArcaOS on some machines and wanted to update the wiki...

Can someone tell me how to get an account on there too?

Thanks...

Ahh ok...  Yes, makes sense you'd have to keep up ODIN with new libraries.

Wish I was a programmer so I could help with porting......    Anything a non-programmer can do to help?

Thanks!
