Setup & Installation / Re: ArcaOS 5.1.2 (update)
« on: March 12, 2026, 11:57:07 am »
Yes, that's the one.
Keep in mind that it is a USB 3.0 card, but ArcaOS will treat it as an USB 2.0.
Never the less, you have 3 extra USB ports.

Comments, Suggestions & Questions / Slow connection OS2World forum.
« on: March 10, 2026, 02:10:28 pm »
Hi,

I cannot repeat certain but I experience some times (very) slow reaction/connection with OS2World forum.
And not a delay of a few seconds, no really about 5 minutes after giving the inlogname and password.
The site acts slowly.
It doesn't matter when I log with WiFi or cable connection.
Are there people who have the same experience?
And the main question, what to do about it?

Greets,
Adrian

Setup & Installation / ArcaOS 5.1.2 (update)
« on: March 10, 2026, 11:40:57 am »
Hi,

Yesterday downloaded the ISO from ArcaOS 5.1.2
Made an install USB stick and updated the current 5.1.1 installation.
The update process works quickly.
It was a surprise that the new USB 3.0 Express Card with 3 USB 3.0 ports now works!

If someone is interested in what kind of Express Card this is;
Kalea-Informatique
Express Card 54mm
3x USB 3.0 ports 5G
FL1100 chipset

Bought by Amazon, €19,50

Works fine in my Lenovo T60.

What also stands out, is that the option JJS CDROM no longer is available during installation.
Is there a particular reason for, or is the standard OS/2 CDROM driver enough?

Cheers,
Adrian

Networking / Problems with Intel 3945abg.
« on: January 26, 2026, 05:03:32 pm »
Hi,

The Intel 3945abg wifi network adapter looses connection for unknown reasons with the DLink 868L router.
This wifi card is someone "apart". To get working the combination Intel 3945abg and DLink 868L I foun a short manual that the problems described. IMHO, it is not the DLink 868L but the Intel wifi card that occurs problems.
Once the DLink was setup for working with the Intel 3945 I have a wifi connection and it works!
Unfortunately, sometimes it loses connection and sometimes I cannot reestablish the connection. It's very unpredictable.
Does someone recognize this problem? and yes, did you solved it (how?).

Applications / WordPerfect 5.2a for OS/2 working!
« on: January 09, 2026, 11:07:11 am »
Finally I've got wordperfect 5.2a for OS/2 working on ArcaOS 5.1.1
The golden tip was from Andy Mills, where he described that the max. amount of RAM should be less than 512Mb for installing wordperfect for OS/2.
A temporary RAM-disk of 2600Mb was created.
So, I made copies from my config.sys, os2.ini and os2sys.ini. (Tip of Roderick to avoid that config.sys was "toasted").
Choose for custom install if you don't want it installed in de root directory of your bootdrive.
Installation finish with no error code but no folders or program objects are created.
As a result a popuplog.os2 was created:

01-08-2026  16:11:10  SYS3175  PID 005b  TID 0001  Slot 008c
C:\TEMP\WPINST.DLL
c0000005
00010499
P1=00000000  P2=ffffffff  P3=XXXXXXXX  P4=XXXXXXXX
EAX=00001a17  EBX=00005aa6  ECX=0002c44f  EDX=0000c416
ESI=0002ca94  EDI=0002ca42
DS=0017  DSACC=00f3  DSLIM=0000ebff
ES=0053  ESACC=d0f3  ESLIM=7fffffff
FS=150b  FSACC=00f3  FSLIM=00000030
GS=0000  GSACC=****  GSLIM=********
CS:EIP=000f:00000499  CSACC=00fb  CSLIM=0000d811
SS:ESP=0017:0000c3f0  SSACC=00f3  SSLIM=0000ebff
EBP=0002c40c  FLG=00010246

WPINST.DLL 0001:00000499

I made the program object myself, ad the two created wordperfect directories to the libpath and path.
After removing the RAM-disk and reboot, wordperfect refuses to start, mowing that it couldn't find DDEML16.DLL, DDEML32.DLL and OS2SHCWP.DLL.
I was able to locate these DLL's and ad them to the wordperfect directories.
After that wordperfect starts and works.
Bit of nostalgia was recreated (snif).

Setup & Installation / Re: eCenter button image
« on: December 30, 2025, 01:17:11 pm »
Hello

I don't fully remember this, but I believe that eCenter was just a rebranded xCenter. And xCenter is part of XWorkplace, so xWorkplace should not be removed.

Adrian, what OS/2 version are you using? IBM, eComStation or ArcaOS?

Quote
Or is it possible to get the old ecenter back?
Is there any way eCenter has something better that xCenter? Because I think that with the latest version of XWorkplace (that has xCenter) we should be fine.

Correct me if I'm wrong please.

Regards

Hi Martin,

I'm using ArcaOS 5.1.1 on a Lenovo T60 laptop.
In the past, I have installed the complete version of workplace, and sometimes strange things happen.
Now I have increased the SSD disk size and partitions, it is more clear and ArcaOS works fine.

Adrian

Setup & Installation / eCenter/xcenter: difference?
« on: December 29, 2025, 07:18:00 pm »
Hi,

What's the difference between the OS/2 Warp 4 ecenter and the ArcaOS xcenter?
When I remove the warpin packages for xworkplace then xcenter is also gone.
When you want to use a wifi connection, this is more difficult because the xcenter widget is of course also gone.
The same for unmounting external drives.
Object desktop has no function for wifi connections or removeable drives.
Or is it possible to get the old ecenter back?

Hardware / Re: Install modern printer under ArcaOS 5.1.1
« on: December 23, 2025, 07:38:41 pm »
Hi,

Finally I've got the time to experience how to make the Epson XP 6000 printer usable under ArcaOS.
The input from martin works.
I've also tried the solution of Pete with the PPD file, unfortunately, that doesn't work.
Now, I get acceptable prints under ArcaOS with Apache OpenOffice and Lotus SmartSuite.
OK, printer is not fast, but result and that's what counts.

Applications / Re: RSJ CDwriter question.
« on: December 19, 2025, 04:38:27 pm »
Hi,

Finally I get RSJ CDwriter working.
Less is more is not spend on ArcaOS, I've got a 64Gb partition and RSJ 6.03 won't work.
After increasing the partition to 8Gb it works!

Now I have a perhaps simple question; How can I burn an *.iso to a CD/DVD?
I just forgot it and I can't find it in the manual.

Grts,
Adrian

I would really be interested if its true that RSJ does not work on a partition bigger then 64 GB. Its possible but highly doubt your observation is correct. As I think you can also make files bigger with it then 2GB (burn ISO files) with RSJ.
At Mensys we used RSJ extensively on large partitions to burn ISO files.

Was this on a HPFS or JFS partition that this happened ? And it failed what error message did you get ?

Best regards,

Roderick Klein

Hi Roderick,

The main disk in the system is a 64Gb SSD.
First, I had ArcaOS 5.1.1 installed on a 64Gb partition formatted as JFS.
RSJ CD writer 6.03 installs, makes the necessary lines in Config.Sys.
After the reboot I inserted a CD-r in the CD burner/player.
RSJ refuses to attach the CD.
It even didn't find an CD  burner.
The same happens when I use the built-in tools shipped with ArcaOS for burning CD's DVD's.
The built-in tools couldn't even the CD burner.
The same with an external CD/DVD burner connected via USB.
So, I give up.
Who is even using CD's in this modern times?
After a question in this forum regarding the "ideal" partition size for an ArcaOS installation, I decided to start from scratch again.
Make a 8Gb partition for the main  ArcaOS system, formatted as JFS.
Trying install RSJ CD writer and in my surprise it finds a CD burner.
Even the built-in tools now are working correct and I could burn an image to a CD.

Is this enough information for you, if not please let me know.

Adrian

Setup & Installation / Re: ArcaOS 5.1.1 can't install on Acer Aspire.
« on: December 11, 2025, 11:05:00 am »
Perhaps try a different stick. Some of the cheap ones don't work very well and they do wear out. It's worth using a quality stick.

Hi Dave,

A different stick works!
At least the Sandisk 64Gb stick works. The storage of this USB stick is as much as the complete 64Gb SSD where the complete ArcaOS system is installed.
System boots from stick, menu appears, installation goes further.
And than it can't see the both disks.
The 1Tb disk is installed with windows 10.
The second disk is a SSD Kingston 128Gb.
Unfortunately not visible at all.
It remembers me of the time that I use OS/2 Warp 4.
So what I call "honkytonky" hardware does not always work or properly work.

To be continued.
Adrian.

Setup & Installation / Re: ArcaOS 5.1.1 can't install on Acer Aspire.
« on: December 08, 2025, 01:54:17 pm »
Hi,

Changed the UEFI and disable secure boot.
Acer starts, boots from USB install stick.
When choosing to install on harddisk and start the installer it gives an error that "config.sys is not found on B:"
It doesn't matter if you choose default installation or own menu.
Any idea's?

I think it does somewhere very early in the boot that stops working. As suggest first try a new USB stick and if that does not work open a ticket at Arca Noae.
As we are most likely not able to help you here.

Question does it unzip the ZIP file files (BIN files).

Roderick

Hi, I'm using a Kingston 8Gb USB 3.xx stick. This works perfect to install ArcaOS 5.1.1 on a Lenovo T60.
I will try a 64Gb Sandisk USB 3.xx witch USB A en C.
For ArcaOS this a enormous sticks.
Size does matter, unfortunately not for ArcaOS.

Hi,

I've made a different partitioning setting on the disk, 8Gb for ArcaOS (C), 8Gb for the ArcaOS emergency version (D), 1,5Gb for FAT16 DOS (E), 500Mb HPFS for installation (F), 16Gb HPFS for data only (G) and the rest is an JFS partition for collection.
The SSD is 256Gb, for OS/2 that is enormous. The problem with big partitions is that some software refuses to install. Or it will install but not work. E.g. RSJ CDwriter installs now correct and works. Even Coreldraw! 2.5 for `OS/2 installs, but unfortunately won't start.
Size does matter. To get a better control over partitions, a smaller SSD would be nice. To find a smaller one (64 or 128Gb) is hard stuff and such a disk is in some cases even expensive than an 256 or 512Gb one.
Os/2 is drowning in disk space.
