Setup & Installation / Re: OS2AHCI not defaulting on VirtualBox installation
« on: September 26, 2020, 05:35:10 pm »
Martin,

Its not that it can not find the installer message. I get the 'OS/2 Can not operate your Hard Drive" message. Its more an annoyance that if you install on physical hardware with AHCI (SATA) only drives, the default installer options add the OS2AHCI Driver to the initial boot menu. If install in a virtualbox with only AHCI Controllers for your attached devices, the default does not include OS2AHCI and you have to manually add it in. I just find that an annoyance and inconsistent actions between the two installation environments.

I think I will open a ticket, just to see what the 'official' line is.

Networking / ArcaMapper - Parameter Incorrect
« on: September 25, 2020, 09:41:39 pm »
Using ArcaMapper

I'm attempting to mount some shares on my WD MyCloud. When I attempt to do the mount via ArcaMapper, I get a 'parameter incorrect' popup and the explanation shows.

"Mount Janna@\\192.168.0.155\ElvishSoftware to S:\"
The Parameter is incorrect.

I get the S: Drive in the connections list, but Dir on it results in a SYS0002 Error (Can not find the file).

ArcaMapper is 2.6.20200530 on an ArcaOS v5.0.5 in a Virtual Box Session.

This all works find on an eCS V2.2 using EVFSGUI.

Any ideas on whats going on here?

Some more details. This all works find on an ArcaOS V5.0.3 system

Setup & Installation / OS2AHCI not defaulting on VirtualBox installation
« on: September 25, 2020, 08:13:04 pm »
It took me awhile to figure this out, but if I do an install (5.0.5) on physical hardware, the OS2AHCI Drivers are included in the default list of DASD Drivers (along with DANI's). But if I do the same thing in a VirtualBox install that has the no IDE, but only AHCI controllers, the default driver selection does not include OS2AHCI. I have to always go in and add the drivers to the boot process in order to prevent the dreaded 'OS/2 is unable to operate your hard disks' message.

Anyone else noticed this and is this significant enough that I should open a ticket on it?

Cheers,

Setup & Installation / Re: Startup.Cmd not executing
« on: August 13, 2020, 07:46:12 pm »
Just to add,
startup.cmd has to be a plain batch file. You cannot run a REXX script or a batch file that invokes a REXX script.

Lars,

No it does not. I've been running my Startup.Cmd as a Rexx script since at least OS/2 V2.0, maybe even 1.3 but its been so long I can't remember.

As for the other suggestions, thats the path I'm going to try and go down. Use XWorkplace Startup or the General Startup Folder.

Cheers,

Also whats the best way to figure out which version of ArcaOs I have installed? I can't remember if this was a 5.0.3 or 5.0.4 base install?

Examine the \sys\install\install.flg file for installation version date and details.

Neil,

Thanks, that works. Looks like it time for a little Rexx Programming to create a ArcaVer command script.

Cheers,

I assume your startup.cmd file is in the root of your boot partition.  If it isn't put it there and then check if it starts when you reboot your computer.
Of course it is.  ;D This is not my first OS/2 System :) Whats strange is that this is the only system that functions this way.

I don't have a startup.cmd. Everything which has to start up is in the config.sys. Startup.cmd is just a command file and acts as every other program which has to be started manually or is started with run in the config.sys. I don't know what you have in the startup.cmd file, but see if it can migrate to the config.sys file.

I really don't what to do that. I use a standardized Startup.Cmd, which after basic housekeeping calls another routine on my network drives, which can not be accessed until after the system is fully booted and it attached to network devices. So I need to all be in the startup.cmd.

This is kind of strange, on my T540P Notebook, my startup.cmd does not automatically start at boot. I have to manually execute it. Now this is the only system that this happens on. Any ideas on why this is happening or actually not happening?

Marketplace / Re: Borland C++ looking for a home
« on: July 09, 2020, 09:10:24 pm »
All,

As I continue to unpack stuff after our move in 2018, I found 2 sets of Borland C++. These are the full boxed sets, I have one V1.5 and one V2.0. The V2.0 has never been opened, it still has the shrink wrap on the box.

These are available to anyone for the cost of the shipping. Note these are pretty heavy as they contain all the manuals and software. I can't guarantee that the diskettes are still good, but they should be.

Any interest just PM me and we can work out the costs.

If there are no takers by Month End (July) they will end up in our local dump.

Cheers,

Eric

Where do you live ? I live in the Netherlands. Are these all diskettes versions of also CD ROM version ?
I think 2.0 has a CD ROM. How much would it cost to ship it to the Netherlands ?
I would sell it for OS/2 VOICE open source development.

Thank you,

Roderick Klein
Roderick,

the 2.0 has gone to a good home, the 1.5 is still available and I actually found all the diskettes. I'm on the east coast of the US is their any interest in the 1.5 version? I can find out the shipping price if so.

Setup & Installation / Rsync Install setup instructions
« on: February 05, 2020, 10:01:35 pm »
Is there a simple tutorial around somewhere that would show me how the setup to use rsync to mirror some data drives between a ArcaOs2 machine and a NAS (WD MyCloud)? I've poke around quite a bit, but have not found any easy to understand samples or examples.

I've got all the software installed, but just can't seem to get the thing working as yet. I know it can be done, as I've seen lots of folks do it, but all the examples I can find are linux or windows based.

TIA

I also have a T540P, but I updated to the latest released ACPI and Panorama.

WinOS2 Window  - Works
WinOS2 Fullscreen - Works
Dos Window - Opens, but unable to use
Dos Full Screen - Works

I don't use DOS/WinOS2, so it doesn't affect my use, but I want my customers to have the best available setup.

I don't have an active subscription right now, so thats not an option at the moment, but I'm going to try the UMB option and see what that gives me. Mine is a V5.03 Base, have to see what updates I do have available. This is a low priority project at the moment, but will probably get more cycles as my T61p is starting to give me some issues.

T540P Report after application of the vio-1.0.wpi referenced in Bug 1193.

WinOs2 Windows - Works fine
WinOs2 Fullscreen - Computer Hangs
Dos Window - Opens, but unable to use. No Prompt ever received.
Dos Full screen - Computer Hangs

Since all I really want is the WinOs2 Window. I'm considering this as a win!. When I say Computer Hangs, its a hard hang requiring a Power Off to recover.
