Applications / Re: No eComStation/ArcaOs Networking on T420 with VirtualBox
« on: February 13, 2018, 12:25:12 am »
I've checked all the things listed. I'm using the Intel PRO/1000 MT Desktop Adapter in the VirtualBox Hardware setting.

What has me perplexed is that this exact same VM works fine on my other desktop and my WinXp VM works fine using the same Network Hardware settings on this T420.

I've manually configured the MPTS (via NAPS) settings on this machine to insure that the proper Driver is selected (MMLEM).

Tried static IP Addresses too and no go on that. Something just ain't right here.

Applications / No eComStation/ArcaOs Networking on T420 with VirtualBox
« on: February 12, 2018, 04:15:00 am »
I've got a T420 running Win 7. Using VBox 5.2.6. My issue is that I can not get an DHCP IP Address to either an eComStation or ArcaOS VMs. I've tried all the various combinations of Adapter (Bridged, NAT, NAT Network, etc.) and none seem to work.

When I try and bind to either my Wireless (Centrino N-6205) or Ethernet (Intel 82579LM Gigabit) it makes no difference. The IP Address never gets served.

Now the same VMs work just fine on my desktop VM System, with an RealTek PCI Gigabit Adapter.

My WinXp and W2K VMs work fine and get unique IP Addresses.

Any ideas of what could be wrong here?

Setup & Installation / Re: Installation Volume Manager Location
« on: January 24, 2018, 11:14:36 pm »
Here it is also in the Install/Remove folder. System Setup has the Logical Volume Manager (Advanced).

The LVM object in the Setup folder is the text based tool, which is not as easy to use as the Installation Volume Manager.

Whats anyone else opinion? Should a shadow be here?

My bad here. The version in the System Setup is the Java based GUI. I did not examine it too closely, just noticed it was not the one I wanted to use.

Setup & Installation / Re: Warp Server on ArcaOS

I just successfully performed this. Did an ArcaOS 5.01 install, then installed Lan Server 6.0 and applied IP8608 on top. Also installed FFST. So far everything seems to be working ok.

Setup & Installation / Re: Update ISO Image with new Drivers
« on: January 24, 2018, 04:10:23 am »
I presume you are using ArcaOS. Do you have ArcaOS 5.0 or 5.01 ? Your system might work if you download ArcaOS 5.01. Updating the boot images on the DVD is pretty complex. Hence my advise.

Best regards,

Roderick Klein

I've got the 5.01 install media. To get the install to work I had to set BIOS to IDE Mode, not install OS2AHCI, go through the full install. Then install the latest AHCI Package, then reset bios to AHCI Mode to get the disks recognized. Next I need to build a maintenance boot volume, but really don't want to have to go through all those steps again. An updated ISO Image would be best.

Setup & Installation / Update ISO Image with new Drivers

I've found that I need the latest AHCI Driver to get my disks recognized. Whats the best way to update the ISO image to include the updated OS2AHCI.ADD. I'd also like to have the add the latest ACPI too.

TIA

Setup & Installation / Installation Volume Manager Location
« on: January 23, 2018, 08:10:46 pm »
Just installed on a new system. More to report on those issues later. But I've found that the Installation Volume Manager is not in the System Setup Folder anymore. After searching around, I found it in the Install/Remove Folder.

Personally I don't think this is correct. I expected to find it in the System Setup as before. Before I open a ticket, can anyone else report on the location they find it?

TIA

You probably won't find a parallel port printer anymore,
Parallel port and serial connections are still available from serious printer manufacturers. Others may have it still as an option.

I have a Brother color laser that works fine with the Brother Scrip3 (form of postscript) and standard HP drivers

Whats the model of your Brother Printer?

As for connectivity, if its got a parallel port I can just plug in into my existing JetDirect, but network is fine too. Just have to run a slightly longer cable from my hub to the printer.

Also, what is the configuration you use with eCups for the Brother Scrip3? I've got a Brother MFC that I use for scanning/fax to Windows and would love to get it functioning as printer for my eCS/ArcaOs machines.

Cheers,

Applications / CUPS - Support Printer List

My venerable HP2550 is starting to die, so I've got to find a new Color Laser Printer for use. Is there a good list of successfully tested color laser printers that can work with ArcaOS and eCS V2.x?

My basic needs are:

-
  • Parallel Port or Network interface
  • Multiple paper trays (letter/legal)
  • At least 100 page letter tray
  • Manual paper feed capability

USB or Wireless only connectivity is NOT an option.

I've done some searching, but its really hard to find verified information on working printers, so I'd appreciate any and all info.

**updated to include additional requirement**

I was looking over the announcement and was trying to compare/contrast the Personal vs Commercial versions. From what I can see the only difference between the 2 is.

Longer Updates Subscription/Support (1 Year vs 6 months)
Prioritized Support

Is there anything else? Any feature differences? Did I miss something?

Thanks

Don't think so. Guess they are currently setting up the backend which will process the thousands and millions of orders ;-)

Btw. the connection to them seems to be quite busy :-)

It must be the flood of orders. As the www.arcanoae.com appears to be down right now. I keep getting a timeout response.  :o

I honestly feel that letting them bet to work in peace may be the best solution I work in IT at a large company and thet seems to be the best solution. Yeah I know we can be disappointed but it is better to let them get it right the first time.

I basically agree with comment.

My only caveat is that when you publish a release date, update it and then miss it, you should say something, even if all you can say is that we can not publish a new release date at this time. No news just leads to endless speculation and questions in the minds of your customers about what is going on in your organization. I think is especially true as most, if not all of the interested parties, have memories of waiting years for the non-release of eCS 2.2.

Cheers

Anyone have any info on the potential release date?

Nothing official, and I don't speak for Arca Noae, but they are having a terrible time trying to get the installer working properly. It seems that every time they fix something, two other things break. Once they get past that, it should be ready to go.

I suspect that they have been looking at it for long enough, that they couldn't see a problem if it jumped out and grabbed them by the throat.

Thanks. I would expect that they would have put out some kind of news. Even if its a release date is now TBD.

A little off-topic, but I was looking at the Arca Noae Website and the last post about release said it was delayed until April 15, well its almost May 15th with no further updates that I can find. Anyone have any info on the potential release date?
