Applications / Re: SSL update: Firefox XUL.DLL can no longer load
« on: April 18, 2025, 12:22:21 pm »
Lars,

I also noticed on my system that Firefox itself comes with a ssl3.dll, so maybe you could also reinstall that too (not sure why it needs it's own version).

Hi Lars,

ssl3.dll is part of the 'nss' package. Try re-installing it (yum reinstall nss). Firefox works OK here after updating openssl.

Thanks Paul - this one works with PMUniMix. When I first ran it, all settings were on zero, so had to reset them, but once done they stuck and sound still works.

Thanks Paul - yep, this works on VBox using the hda driver. If I start PMUniMix though, I lose sound altogether. Next time I start PMUniMix, everything is set to zero. So as long as I don't start PMUniMix, sound works OK.

Hey Paul,

I tried this last build in a VBox 7.1 machine and can confirm your results: ac97 'works' and hda hangs while booting.

I have never used ac97 for sound in a VBox because it always plays sounds too fast - voices sound like chipmunks. Wonder if anyone else has noticed that. HDA has always been fine.

Internet / Re: Dooble releases-Qt6

Thanks - didn't know about the environment variable. Added it and now don't need the file in root for dictionaries.

I wonder why does Dooble write the settings file at all if it already exists at startup? it clearly reads it from %HOME%, but maybe some part of the code does not get the message it already exists and goes ahead and writes it?

Thanks again Dave! This also works well here - still get the dooble_settings.db in the root. As an experiment, I made a bunch of changes to my settings, closed dooble, then deleted the dooble_settings.db in the root. Opened dooble and all the settings changes I made were still there.  So it seems that dooble_settings.db file in the root is totally vestigial and is an extra copy.

Another thing I had forgotten about - it still need the dictionary file to be in the root too...

Thanks Dave - it's working well here, and I do get the dooble_settings.db in the root of the drive dooble is on..

General Discussion / Re: Brainstorm: What is Next with OS/2 ?
« on: March 22, 2025, 12:56:56 am »
I agree the 2 main needs are #1: Browser and #2:WiFi. But like Dave points out there are other currently lesser needs (like IPv6) that may become urgent as time moves on. Also it seems there are other hardware issues becoming apparent - I have a new motherboard that does not have anything for IRQ0, and so has very weird timing issues, as well as only 800MB memory below 4GB. This forced me to go with a VM in Windows - wasn't happy about that.

Have a possibly dumb question, not being a programmer: is it possible to produce OS/2 executables with GCC inside of Linux? If so, would make compiling large apps easier, no?

Glad you got it working, Per! Strange... I don't have those files in my install of AOO 4.1.11. Could it be the installer checks for those files on the drive it is being installed to (mine is on the %UNIXROOT% drive) and installs them if not found?

Hi Per,

I had a look at your trap file, and near the bottom in the 'DLL's accessable from this process' section the tale is told: you have 2 versions of libcn0.dll loaded, one in G:\usr\lib (the correct one) and one in P:\OPENOFFICE\PROGRAM (an older one). Not sure how the 2nd one got there, but I notice there are several other duplicates in those same 2 directories (like libcx0.dll, pthr01.dll, icudt.dll, gcc1.dll) some of which are the same version, but not all. Best to get rid of the ones in P:\OPENOFFICE|PROGRAM (I do not have any of those there on my system). Might be easiest to delete P:\OPENOFFOCE and re-install OpenOffice from scratch.

I also notice that none of the OpenOffice DLL's are loaded high - once OpenOffice is installed, go to the 'Apache OpenOffice' folder, then the 'Extras' folder, then run 'Enable High Mem Code Loading' and reboot to get OpenOffice out of your low memory.

Thanks Dave - I got a new ISO and this one installed fine and shows it is 5.1.1 in my VirtualBox. Now to install on some real hardware...

Events / ArcaOS 5.1.1 is out.
« on: February 17, 2025, 02:15:17 am »
Has English, German, Spanish and Russian versions. Installed my English update in less than 5 minutes, but install.flg says it was updated to 'ArcaOS 5.1.0 en', so I wonder if there is no difference with version 5.1.0 in the English version (the ISO says 5.1.1).

Be interesting to hear how other language users get on with their installation...
