General Discussion / Re: ArcaOS on Youtube @MichaelMJD
« on: February 03, 2023, 08:52:46 am »
That happens, when you react as you were still or live in the 90's of last century on a video that is published 30 years later...

Yes, there is a license contract with IBM, but even though it might be better to inform possible violaters about it first. If I understand correctly, this contract did not forbid the video.

May be next time it is a good advice to contact the author of the video before crashing all down. But the damage is already there.

But due to all this negative attitude on ArcaOS and the "possible legal" problems with making a video about it now, I wonder if anyone else with such a wide spreeded channel will ever report about it.

I would very much like to be convinced otherwise! There have been so much tremendous work done by ArcaNoae with ArcaOS that it is really a pitty to have such a negative publicity now.

Just a speculation:

Is there a connection between the blocking of the video and the failure of the 2rosenthals website? By the way it is still marked as an infected site by Bitdefender.

Perhaps the video generated so much traffic on the ArcaNoae site that the servers went down because of this and the video may have been taken off the market for the time being.

Or one of the old Windows evangelists has noticed and doesn't want a new OS/2.

All speculation. The only onces able to tell what is really going on are at Arca Noae.

That is what I mean with "The holy Grail" ArcaOS.

Instead of using facts to convince critics of the opposite, they prefer to be silenced.

Imagine that on Windows: how many videos are there that criticize something, rightly or wrongly, and how many then have to delete these videos? Is that actually what is meant by "censorship"? As 007 once said to Q in Goldfinger "You must be joking!"

When I started OS/2 in 1995, I heard about the "OS/2 evangelists" and their very deterrent strategy for spreading OS/2. Doesn't an operating system also live from the discussion about it, from the rough edges that it may have?

Oh man, I can only hope that this is a misunderstanding and that the few people who deal with ArcaOS and also make it public are not alienated. For me, this also means very clearly: Am I glad that I deleted the ArcaOS channel. There will be no more videos about ArcaOS from me until further notice. But there are plans for OS/2 again!

I hope that ArcaNoae will still rethink this. So in my opinion you only destroy everything yourself, or as a German computer magazine once wrote in connection with a publication about OS/2: "IBM is cutting off its own arms and legs again."

But in the end it may sadly lead to: "Who cares at all?"

The website 2rosenthals is actual blocked by my Anti Virus Program Bitdefender and marked as "infected site".

Hardware / Re: Some successful installs with ArcaOS 5.0
« on: January 28, 2023, 09:25:45 pm »

If you want to help, at least use the current version.

If you want to distract Users from ArcaOS and People from this forum, that is the way to go!

ArcaOS 5.07 is not the holy Grail, we have OS/2, eComstation and Arcaos Users here. Any Hardware Information is welcome!

In Addition it is NOT a must to read the wikis, it helps, but for a lot of people, believe it or not, English is not their mothertongue.

TNG999, please do not hesitate to ask your questions and post your Informations.

For myself I am using a pimped up OS/2 4.52 Version on Hardware, Arcaos 5.07 wont even Start the Installation. But that does not mean, that my OS/2 is the best around.

This Forums live because we have all flavours of OS/2 here, ArcaOs is just one of them, the most modern and the one I would suggest for a new User.

Applications / Re: Update of ScummVM possible?
« on: January 28, 2023, 03:42:24 pm »
I do Just Start scummvm.exe in the bin directory, I do not have ANPM installed, nor the usr etc directories.

Thanks for the DLL, Paul. It crashes while starting with libc error.  I am on the road now, will Post a screen shot once I am at home again.

Looks promising :D

Hi Paul,

thank you, I tried it, but it won't start. PMDLL tells me that SDL2200.DLL is missing. Do you know where I can get this file? (Prefer not ANPM). Thanks again!

Sponsoring via github is quite difficult (one has to register and so on.), so I did it direct via Paypal.

Hi Paul, I do not really have a clue what you are exactly doing hile you compile things, as I do have zero  programming skills, I would like to Tell you that I am really fascinated about what and how you are dringend it.

It is very interesting to follow your progress and I only can say Thank you so much for this and your tremendous work and your willing to share your thoughts, Problems and progress!

I can read and feel your emotions between the lines!

I guess "100%" is a good sign and so I will send you some bucks for your Hard and interesting work, that you share!

All the best and keep going!!

The Installation is with one core only.

Hi Roderick,

the picture may be a bit misleading, even if it looks like Warp 3 it is ArcaOS 5.07.
If I remember correctly GRADD needs Warp 4 FP 5 and Warp 3 FP35.
The Virtualbox Version is the current Version 7.0x, Windows 11 Pro 64bit.

12
Most all CPU's should work fine with ArcaOS, the exception being the most recent Intel CPU's that use big and little cores. They work but very slow.
Problems will be in the BIOS and some can be worked around. Mostly memory, mainly video, it needs to use as little as possible.

That is interesting and I would like to add my experience with OS/2 and ArcaOs inside Virtualbox on a Thinkpad X1 Carbon 10th Generation with an Intel core i7 12th Generation, that is almost the same as Dave writes: The System is very slow, installations of OS/2 Warp usually crash while the second phase of installation - the graphical one - starts.
An ArcaOS 5-.07 Installation went through but is slow, due to problems with the graphic rendering I would guess.

So even in Virtual machines the support for OS/2 - ArcaOS is getting worse, unfortunately.
It may need an updated gradd or panorama or SNAP, I guess.

Yes, the one here was 14.103 and works fine with kernel 14.201, it probably hardly ever needed updating but going from a W3 kernel to W4 or higher might need an update and the error messages that Sigurd posted might be caused  by this, if only the lack of proper error messages.

Thanks Dave! I will give it a shot with the file from Warp 4.52!

The Warp3 kernel is a dead end. It does not contain the KEE functionality which means that no current driver will work (including JFS.IFS, as an example as well as the USB stack).

Hi Lars,

thanks fort this information! As I can see here (Thanks Martin to remind me of this wunderfull pages by Alex Taylor!) in the picture, XR*D002 is the latest driver package for Warp Server 4. I already added XR*D003 to my UPDCD build, wich now oviously makes no sence once I can not integrate Kernels from Warp 4.

Thanks again!!

15
Thanks for the hints!

Yes, Martin, I am already at a "Farpoint"  :)

So far I get with Kernel Version 14.104a (UNI or W4) the (not unexpected it does not work at first shot  ;)  )  Error Messages seen in the last picture. Those say: "Problems with os2ldr.msg" (at least something like that) :D

The other 3 pictures show my UPDCD enviroment.
