Applications / Re: Lost / Missing Software for OS/2

I'm trying to find ATOK8 for OS/2.
I guess it is a Japanese input method editor

ATOK is commercial software; TTBOMK the Windows version is still sold but the OS/2 version was discontinued years ago. I'm pretty certain you won't find a legitimate copy anywhere except possibly the secondhand market (ebay or whatever), and even then I'd call it a long shot.

Programming / Re: ArcaOS - Recreate a complete build environment?

Need at least some of this in your environment too,
Code: [Select]
SET SHELL=sh.exe

Be very careful with SET EMXSHELL -- in my experience, having this defined will cause many programs built with the old EMX+GCC to break horribly. I never set this (and make sure to remove it if any RPM adds it), and I've never needed it to build modern gcc stuff.

ADDRESS CMD "P:\test\pdftotext.exe source.PDF input.txt"
Results in "private_alloc failed, error code = 0x00000137

Actually, I think this is probably an error from pdftotext.exe itself (or rather, its C runtime).

Does it depend on DLLs or other support files in its current directory? If so, you might need to change the current working directory (or possibly even manipulate the path/libpath/dpath etc).

1. Don't put .exe after cmd, I'm pretty sure it's a keyword command, not a reference to cmd.exe
2. Don't use 'start', running a program with address cmd (at least from VXREXX) will already start a separate session (and minimize it, IIRC).

The following should suffice for running a program from VX-REXX:
Code: [Select]
ADDRESS CMD "P:\test\pdftotext.exe source.PDF input.txt"
Plus any output redirection you need, of course.

Setup & Installation / Re: DB2 v. 6.1 / Java

You may have the Java 1.1.8 runtime already installed in \OS2\JRE\Java11. If so, you can call it using a wrapper script that sets
Code: [Select]
where x: is your system drive.

(Not tested so make whatever tweaks are needed.)

If you want all the icons in the DLL, easiest way is to use RDC which is included with the RESMGR package.
Code: [Select]
rdc <dllname>But copy the DLL to a temporary directory first, because depending on the DLL this can output a large number of files.

Like Neil, I also don't see shares with the ArcaMapper browser (AN 5.1). Is there something that can be added to smb.conf to allow displaying shares? SMBTREE works fine (once the password is added).

I assume you see the actual servers and just not the shares on them?

This is most likely due to using the wrong user credentials for browsing. The bottom right of the status bar shows the user that's currently being used. If that user doesn't have permission to see shares on each server, you won't see them.

You can change the browsing credentials from the Network->Authenticate menu item.

FWIW, I understand from Steven that his repository should be considered the "current" one.

Perhaps you could see if the following combination of options gets you anywhere:

Code: [Select]
   client lanman auth = yes
   client min protocol = NT1
   client NTLMv2 auth = no
   client plaintext auth = yes

Btw: is there a way to change the size of the WarpCenter (like xcenter) besides changing small to big icons? I May have asked it years ago, but forgot, sorry.

Sadly, no. The WarpCenter only supports those two sizes, the tallest of which is 26 pixels high. It's an unfortunate limitation.

Now, it is implemented as a WPS class (SmartCenter), so in theory, someone who was knowledgeable in WPS programming (a very short list which does not include me) might be able to enhance it by subclassing it, but that's another story.

To undo the resource replacement on the WarpCenter:
  • copy \os2\dll\SCENTER.DLL \os2\dll\SCENTER.BAK
  • unzip \sys\install\dialog\ORG_EN.ZIP SCENTER_DLL_ORG.RES -d \os2\dll
  • unlock \os2\dll\SCENTER.DLL
  • resmgr -a \os2\dll\SCENTER.DLL \os2\dll\SCENTER_DLL_ORG.RES
  • Reboot

To activate the WarpCenter, edit CONFIG.SYS and add
Code: [Select]

In the New Connection dialog, select the "Options" button and try the following connection settings:
  • Enable encryption: turn OFF
  • Enable NTLMv1: turn ON

Try running
Code: [Select]
lpinfo -mfrom a prompt and see what happens.

Applications / Re: NewView - control over NEW window placement?
« on: January 12, 2024, 01:00:25 am »
Well.... Adding a settings option itself implies code changes, not just the logic but also modifying the settings notebook, extending the settings save/restore code, adding the necessary language strings and getting all the translators to update it. I'm sorry to say this strikes me as more work, not less.

BTW, I would note that this offset behaviour is consistent with many OS/2 programs and windows - including the OS/2 Window command prompt. So it's not out of place for NewView to do the same thing.

FWIW, I'm not the author of NewView, and I'm only a highly reluctant maintainer to the extent of fixing genuine bugs or addressing other serious issues. I don't honestly consider it my place to make changes to Aaron's design decisions.
