Setup & Installation / Re: Is FixPak 5 for WSeB 4.52 available anywhere?
« on: October 14, 2024, 02:12:31 pm »
Hi Richard,

Fixpacks were the same for the OS/2 Convenience Packages and WSeB, IBM did not want to keep seperate trees at that stage.

xr_c005 & xr_c006 both exist, though not for public posting as they were Software Choice Subscriptions only. These days you would look at ArcaOS which includes the fixes.

FP5 (xr_c005) for WSeB was the last official one, FP6 (xr_c006) does exist but my notes on it are:

This is not officially released, didnt even make it to the ALPHA stage and there have been reports that it is very unstable. Best to stick with FP5 with updated pmmerge.dll file.

The Object Rexx updated shipped in Fixpack 3 appears to cause problems with several Rexx-based applications.  This update will backout that update to the previous level of Object Rexx.

Other users have reported problems with the PMMERGE.DLL module shipped in Fixpack 5.  This update will backout that update to the Fixpack 4 level of PMMERGE.DLL.

fp5_up target_drive update_option
target_drive is letter (with semi-colon) of the drive to be updated
update_option is the update to be applied, rexx (OREXX.DLL) or merge
  (pmmerge.dll).

Hi Nathan,

I am also seeing other people from around the same time period (some of whose threads I participated in) whose posts show they have also been converted to "Guest" users, indicating that their accounts have also been deleted.  I wonder what happened to cause such a purge of non-spam accounts from around the same time period...

That might have been when a server fault developed, may not have been spam account purging.
Martin has a better memory that I of server problems :)

Hi Nathan,

Apologies, might have zapped your account by accident during a cleanup of spam accounts, rarely happens but we are human.
If you could contact me off forum with the email address and any other details you can remember using and I will see if it is possible.

Hi Neil,

I noticed the same thing under Ubuntu with ArcaOS installed in Virtual box after upgrading Virtualbox to v7.0.20. Figured it will get fixed sometime so simply use linux file manager or terminal to copy or move files on the host system.

Hi Remy,

You should return your protocol and other files that Injoy firewall changes back to original so the injoy drivers and settings are removed.
You will find the uninstall command file in the documents somewhere, not near my server at present so cant check what it was.
The uninstall procedure will not delete any files, simply return the ini files back to normal. After you upgrade ArcaOS, simply rerun the install file.
Same procedure applies if you want to run mpts to change network drivers etc.

I use to be on several OS/2 groups on LinkedIn but noticed I've been removed, on checking those groups still exist.
I do not think its due to being removed by those that run the groups as I note that I was also removed from IBM & NCR ex associate groups as well.

Shame, my vote was with hobbes.os2voice.org for the reasons you give.

I also agree having two upload sites is asking for problems, better to have one mirror the others incoming but you also run the risk of missing files when incoming is cleared. There are ways around this.

Hi Valery,

I stopped the mirroring, (unless someone asked me for FTP access with username access) as an entity was mirroring the website constantly, as in machine gun constant with a large number of IP's from different ranges - yes, it killed my link all the time. I would ban the IP's and they would pop up with a new collection of IP's from several ranges. This coupled with all the new search engines back then ignoring robots.txt etc, I decided I had better things to do with my time so I added limiting and blacklisting rules.

That being said, Roderick/Voice have hosted os2site.com for the last couple of years now so it is no longer on an Australian HFC link :)

Hi Roderick,

I already send an email this morning to you as well Ian :-)
I send it to your gmail address.
Roderick

ok, checked my gmail account, mostly full of rubbish as I rarely look at it, you are better off emailing me at ian@ the os2site.com website :)
Have a lot to think about at present but limited time to do so.
Thinking it might be easier if I got paid hosting but that limits options as to software that I can use. I think I will have to maybe go the linux route locally for os2site.com and mirror that to an external host, either way Roderick, your version of os2site.com would then be able to be updated regularly though the preference is for your version to pull the updates from my version.

Martin, yes, I would keep the last version of hobbes that I have mirrored before I moved, the last version of hobbes as it would be the day before it is closed down, and a version that you would be free to update, modify etc.

I would simply add a date to the older versions of hobbes at https://www.os2site.com/mirrors/ so there would be a hobbes_2021 and hobbes_2024. Gives you an option to have the new location called Martin if you like :) Webservers have this wonderful thing called 'rewrite rules'.
