 Thanks Paul,

Gave the new ffmpeg a quick try and it seems to work fine. Since using Remy's script and adding a second CPU to my virtual machine, QT6 Dooble has been better than ever with videos and heavy Javascript websites. I have yet to get a hard hang, or even a silent exit. The Athena website mentioned works fine here. I'll keep testing...

Remy.

I haven't noticed any strange mouse movement during video play, but will pay attention. I have had Dooble eventually hang during playback, but usually (about 4 out of 5 times) can still use the WPS, but it is not killable so have to reboot.

Tried Remy's REXX script and it helped tremendously! Now I can play videos embedded on websites with no trouble (yet to try youtube) -thanks Remy! I am using the HDA driver in VirtualBox, with Paul's latest UNIAud build.

Regards,

EDIT: Even YouTube is usable - no silent exit!

Hey Paul,

No, the SAMBA machine is my server (bare metal - i5-9600K)... this is on my desktop, a VirtualBox machine inside of Windows 11 (forced to use because on bare metal it only has 850MB memory with AOS). The hardware is an i5-12600K processor and B760 MoBo with DDR4 memory. The VirtualBox machine is using 1 processor only.

Paul,

I'm not able to play any videos with this new build - when I try, the video starts with jerks, then the whole machine locks solid - no mouse or keyboard - and have to do hard reset. Going to youtube, the browser just disappears. Heavy javascript sites seem to work well and are very fast to load though.

Hi Sigurd,

Had a look at your logs, and from what I can tell, only the switch /A:2 is going to have a chance of working because the other two are HDMI ports which will not work with AOS (unless a video driver is created that supports it). Check your BIOS and see if there is a setting to use the RealTek audio on your computer (this is what /A:2 enables). Also check if you have a headphone jack, and see if you get sound there. It could be that some laptops use HDMI for their speakers so would force using external speakers or headphones with that unit with OS/2.

Paul,

As far as I can tell, the behavior of the examples in the previous GCC9 version of QT6.2.9 are identical to the latest GCC14 version, including the POPUPLOG entries. All failing modules fail the same and ones that worked still work. Versions earlier than that were very similar, but I don't remember any POPUPLOGs with those ones (at least on examples that worked like on this latest version).     EDIT: I just checked and it seems the POPUPLOG entries on the QML Chart examples don't get created until I close their window. The examples work fine, but create a POPUPLOG on close.

Re. the \QUICK examples - examples with subdirectories have a qmldir file in the last subdirectory. In previous versions before 6.2.9, the qmldir file there would have a line in it like: 'optional plugin <DLL name>', where <DLL name> had the name of the DLL in the same directory (no .dll). Both 6.2.9 versions do not have that line in the qmldir file, but if I add it, then the examples all work.

Re. 'torrent' - hmmm... here, when I try to download a torrent (including your example) it seems to work at first, but just hangs on 'Searching' and never gets the file to download.

Paul,

I went thru all the examples in \QT6.2\EXAMPLES from the GCC14 version of QT6.2.9, and here is a list of items I found that did not work:

Nothing in the \DBUS, \MULTIMEDIA, \MULTIMEDIAWIDGETS and \TOUCH directories worked (no surprise - I don't have a touch screen)

\CORELIB\SERIALIZATION folder, the 'cbordump' and 'convert' apps give a blank screen - not sure what they are supposed to do.

\DESIGNER folder 'WorldTimerClockBuilder' gives an 'unable to create a widget' error

\NETWORK folder, 'http' gives a SIGSEV trap - I have an exceptq log if you want it. 'torrent' runs, but does not find torrents I know are there.

\QMLTEST folder, No 'tst_*.qml' file found to test.

\WEBENGINEQUICK folder, 'lifecycle' gives a 'select:socket operation on non-socket' error. So does 'minimal'.

\WEBENGINEWIDGETS folder, 'html2pdf' doesn't work. 'markdowneditor' error: 'load glyph failed' displays garbled text. 'spellchecker' gives 'socket operation on non-socket' error. So does 'videoplayer'.

\WIDGETS folder, \TOOLS folder, 'echoplugin' gives error: 'could not load plugin'.

The \QUICK directory has the same trouble as earlier builds - examples without subdirectories work, but those with a subdirectory (usually ending with a 'shared' directory) don't. I tried moving the shared directory up to the main sub-directory but it didn't help this time. I also noticed that the 'qmldir' files seems to be slightly different than before - need to experiment with these some more. In any case I don't think there is any problem with 'Quick' operation, just the packaging of the examples.

Everything else worked, but I did have a bunch of entries in my POPUPLOG file that look very similar, so will attach here. Not sure what caused them. Only had 1 exceptq trap file (for the 'http' example).

Regards,

 Thanks Paul!

Been busy lately, so no time to test the last drop, but I just installed this latest GCC14 version and Dooble works great with it. I have time today to give it a real test so will report back....

 Thanks Paul,

Working well here on bare metal and in a VIrtualBox.  I see the same as Martin with VirtualBox using the AC97 driver, plus it will sometimes play back at the wrong speed. No problems here using the HD audio driver though (volume app set to 100%), so I stick with that. I suspect these issues in VirtualBox are VirtualBox's problems. No trouble on bare metal.

Paul,

The new QT6 libs seem to work great. Maybe just confirmation bias, but also seem to make the QT6 Dooble more stable with complicated javascript sites (like news websites). One thing I still see is playing videos will eventually hang the browser and/or the system. If playing videos is kept to a minimum, everything stays stable. Thanks!

Paul,

file:///c:\config.sys does not work on QT5. I haven't seen that happen when opening files from dialogs, so I don't think it is a big problem. Thanks for the new QT6 libs - I'll give them a try now...

 Hi Rémy,

That page seems to work OK here - though I am using a virtual box with only 1 CPU to run ArcaOS. Also have the blocked domain list installed to avoid ads. It does seem very slow to load, but I don't see a high CPU load. Maybe try Dave's latest 2024/08/20 version (link earlier in the thread) and see if that helps.

Thanks for remembering Lars, and thanks Tom for the link! It does indeed work with the QT5 version of Dooble, so don't need to be moving things around - great! The file is gigantic - I wonder if it could be Lxlite'd? Here's hoping Paul can add this to the QT6 version too...

Hey, thanks everyone for looking into this bug. Too bad it isn't as straight forward as I hoped. I have other QT apps (like Scribus) that handle drive letters just fine, but I guess the QT Webengine complicates everything. Unless Lars' recollection leads to a solution, I'll probably just break down and move PMMail to %UNIXROOT% and delete the drive letter when I need to see HTML emails (usually for paying bills)...
