Hi Dave.

If you compiled AcpiTree, please share it here. I want to give it a try.

Hi David
Now that I have used it for awhile, I can actually say it boots faster, shuts down faster, usb connection is faster, and the system is more stable.  Win-OS2 sessions and DOS window sessions still hang system.

Which hardware are you using? did you install ArcaOS 5.1 with UEFI enabled or normal CSM/BIOS configuration?

Regards

normal CSM/BIOS configuration.  This is an older Thinkpas.

Hi David

I see, in that case there should be no improvement on DOS-WinOS2 Sessions.
You may already know about it, but I have to ask, did you used the viop patch/workarround in the past?

In my old Thinkpad L420 (non UEFI) machine it worked for me to fix the DOS session, but it is possible that my issue was different.

Hello

This year I'm also asking for donations to video stream Warpstock 2023.
Please help me out with this goal.

I need also to test that the button the main page is working, if someone can start with a little donation and let me know if it worked, I will appreciate it.
Check the donate button at the right side of the OS2World main page.

Programming / Re: Using AI to Code for OS/2

Now it was the turn for FreedomGTP (https://chat.freedomgpt.com):

Hello do you know about OS/2?

Yes, I am familiar with OS/2. It was a proprietary operating system that was developed by IBM in the 1980s as an alternative to Microsoft Windows. However, it never gained significant market share and was eventually replaced by other operating systems such as Windows NT and Linux.

Is the source code of OS/2 available online?

The source code for OS/2 is not freely available online, but there are still some communities dedicated to its development and maintenance. You can find more information on their websites or forums if you're interested in learning more about it.

Which OS/2 community do you know?

One active community for OS/2 is called "The OSBC", which stands for Open Source Business Computing. They focus on developing open-source software based on the original OS/2 codebase, including utilities, applications, and even a web browser. Another community worth mentioning is "eComStation", which is a commercial version of OS/2 that includes additional features and support.

this is wrong I havent see that the OSBC is trying to make an open source clone of OS/2.

While they don't have the same goal as creating an exact clone of OS/2, The OSBC does work on developing open-source software based on the original OS/2 codebase. This includes utilities, applications, and even a web browser. Their efforts aim to keep the legacy of OS/2 alive while also promoting open-source development.

Do you have a link? or reference to that?

Sure! Here's a link to their website where you can learn more about their projects and goals: https://www.osbc.org/. Additionally, here's a quote from one of their members regarding their intentions with OS/2: "Our main goal is to preserve the heritage of OS/2 by keeping the original codebase alive and well, while at the same time pushing forward with new technologies and ideas."

Spoiler Note: https://www.osbc.org/ Sent me to the Ocean State Baptist Church. This AI only provides you limited "credits" and it sucked bad for this questions. So fun  ;D

Hello

I had been in contact with Man42 for a little more than a year and he had helped me to improve a little bit the OS2World wiki with some old OS/2 releases that I never knew it existed.

I'm also looking forward for some old OS/2 software pictures like boxes, diskettes, etc.

Thanks for the reply. I will move on to try a different touch screen laptop.

But I would like to know, is there a way in ArcaOS to generate some report that will list the touch screen and pen devices like the report that was tool from Linux Debian? (that report that Wim shared from the internet). LSUSB does not show it in this case also.

I'm still trying to find ACPITREE, but I don't know if that is the right tool for this, or where to get it.

Hi Neil

I haven't connected a printer to ArcaOS in ages, so this is just a wild guess.
If you open the printers as a "Detail View", does the list order of the printer windows complies with the printing order?

Hello Wim

I tried on my config.sys
Quote
DEVICE=C:\OS2\BOOT\XSMOUSE.SYS
 DEVICE=C:\OS2\BOOT\AMOUSE.SYS STYPE=XSMOUSE$
 ...
 DEVICE=C:\OS2\BOOT\USBECD.SYS /D:056A:508C:#### /N:$LENOVO$ /S /V
When I run "usbwrite $LENOVO$" I get:
Quote
SYS0031: A device attached to the system is not functioning.
Just in case I'm attaching my testlog report.

FYI: Since this machine is dual boot, I had checked that on Windows 10 the touch screen and pen support works.

You have a USB device, and I suppose it should be:

DEVICE=C:\OS2\BOOT\USBECD.SYS /D:056A:508C:#### /N:$FINGER$ /S /V
DEVICE=C:\OS2\BOOT\USBECD.SYS /D:056A:508C:#### /N:$STYLUS$ /S /V

(You have not provided enough hardware info that would allow to find out the device release but I think that last parameter of /D is optional)

Hello Lars

I have the Tablet/Laptop device PCI report here: https://www.os2world.com/wiki/index.php/Lenovo_Miix_510-12ISK_Hardware_Report
I can not find any "056A:508C" device with PCI.exe or lsusb. What other report do you suggest me to try to find the ID of this device.

I'm still not sure if the touch screen and pen support is USB or COM related.

Thanks Dave

I used  rmview /irq and /io, but I don't understand how to map that data to the PSCOM.SYS driver. (I guess I need to use that PSCOM.SYS)

This is the sample of the site:
 DEVICE=O:\OS2\BOOT\PSCOM.SYS (1,200,4,I)
(COM1 to access the Wacom Pen at port=200 and irq=4)

But don't know which device is the correct one from the list and how to get those values.
