Hardware / Cups or not Cups
« on: November 05, 2013, 11:06:46 pm »
I intend to buy me a color laser printer. At the moment I think of Epson Aculaser C2900N, or Canon i-Sensys LBP7750CDN or Canon i-Sensys 7680Cx. The problem is that there are no printer drivers for eCS, and the printers are not in the Gutenprint list for supported printers. I guess the printers are too new. But all of them have emulation for Adobe Postscript 3. So my question is if I can print directly from eCS using postscript and forget about Cups or do I have to copy my print jobs to a common volume with MS, reboot and print from there as I often have to do today.

Applications / Re: Apache OpenOffice 4.0
« on: July 22, 2013, 06:01:54 pm »
As many other I also have problem starting OO 4.0. When trying to start the program by clicking one of the icons soffice.exe, quickstart.exe, swriter.exe, or anyone else I get this error message:

soffice - Fatal Error
The application cannot be started.
The user interface language cannot be determined.

I installed all the required dll using the proposed yum statement. Anyone having any ideas?

Setup & Installation / Re: Can't use Facebook and Twitter in Firefox
« on: January 22, 2013, 10:07:59 pm »
Thank you all for your answers. They did not solve my problem, but I think I am a step closer to the solution -> reinstall ecs2.1. I have both ecs 2.0 and ecs 2.1 installed. I never dare to remove the old one before I am sure everything works ok for me, and 2.1 don't.
I have Firefox 6 on 2.0 and I can access Facebook etc as expected. I have FF 10.0.11 on 2.1 and it does not work. If I run FF 10.0.11 from ecs 2.0 it works. If I run FF 6 from ecs 2.1 it does not work. So the problem is not in FF. I have experimented with the profiles and add-ons and config.sys, but it didn't change anything.
So let it be. I am now leaving home for a long journey and when I am back in march I will reinstall 2.1 or hopefully, 2.2 then is ready.

Setup & Installation / Can't use Facebook and Twitter in Firefox
« on: January 17, 2013, 01:51:52 pm »
If I want to use Facebook and Twitter I have to reboot to Windows Vista. Fb and Tw don't work in my Firefox browser. Here is what happens: If I just switched on my PC or rebooted eCS and open www.facebook.com (or Twitter) FF open my account as expected, but I can't go any further. If I click on a link to a friend or search anyone or want to write a comment I only get a message in the lower left corner saying Waiting for Facebook.... After a minute or so the whole page is replaced with a message saying: The connection was reset. The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading. If I then try to open FB again I only get the message Waiting for Facebook... It is of no help to close FF and reopen it.
But if I before I try to open Fb removes all Fb cookies, I again can open it into my account and stop there.

Some Norwegian newspaper have frames that point to Facebook. When I browse thru the paper even in these frames the message The connection was reset.. is displayed after a short time.

But there are also other situations where the browser is waiting for something that never seems to happen. If I want to buy software from Mensys I now have to do that in Vista. After ordering the software in eCS I am directed to some security check against my bank and I have to enter password etc. and I get a single message on a blank page: Processing... That takes forever and I just have to give in.

Because of this I can't use FF for much more than browsing. Strange enough I can do all my bank transaction with my main bank without problems, the same bank that is controlling my credit card info when buying from Mensys.

Versions: ecS 2.1,  - FF 10.0.11. But I have had the problems thru earlier versions of both eCS and FF.

Can anyone help me out of this situation?

Comments, Suggestions & Questions / Cruelty in OS2World
« on: January 17, 2013, 12:30:52 pm »
Yesterday I prepared a new topic in the forum. I started the topic like this, but as I am not English I had to think an check some words and sentences while typing. And I did some other things like watching the news on TV and even backed a bread. And before posting I even remember other facts to put into to message.
So, at last I had finished my "long" story and pressed the Post button.
What happened. Everything - EVERYTHING - was deleted with a message about that I had been on the function for more than an hour. As I remember it also said I had to log in. Stupid - I am always loged in. May be I am wrong about the login message, but anyway in my anger I broke a pencil and a few other not to mention things.
What about a little warning?
