Communication / Re: Zoc and Transfers

Thanks to all for the feedback.

I can confirm that with zoc.exe entered into Page 2 or FOC, I was able to successfully complete a file transfer.  (WHEW)

If you are playing at home:
  Computer>System Setup>WorkPlace Shell>FOC>PG 2 Exceptions.

  C:\A

That makes sense, as I was just trying a simple test, and picking c:\autoexec.bat.

I will try disabling FOC and see if that changes anything.

I appreciate the help Steven and love tips like:
    [d:\tmp]rexxtry say reverse(x2c(415c3a43))
    C:\A

On the target machine, windows/terra term, I say receive Z modem file.
On the sender machine, AOS 5.1 + Zoc, I say send file, you'll get a warning, if you don't have rts/cts enabled, the transfer might be unreliable.
As soon as you pick your file, Zoc packs it up.

I'll see if I find anything in the crash log and post it next.

Trying to use Zoc with AOS 5.1

Everytime I try to transfer a file, Zoc just closes.

I've tried with two different types of USB > RS232 cables.

I tested Send and Receive by typing on the keyboard.

What other terminal program should I try?

Thank you Dave for the summation.

You really helped improve my understanding of browser tech, and the challenges for older platforms.

Also, I loved:

AN fixed my problem, it was a combination of config.sys, autoexec.bat tweaks + the vio patch.

I would have never hit the right combo on my own. =)

Maybe something changed in the toolchain (client/server/middleman)  from active to passive ftp or vice versa?

I did some more playing with this, without luck.

I believe the patch you mentioned is only for UEFI systems.

In my case, I had the bios set to Legacy Only, CSM Enabled. I saw a warp stock video with DavidA - and it seemed he was saying those are the best setting for AOS.

I also tried creating a program object on the desktop with command.com - In both cases I get a message that the mouse driver loaded and then lockup, only the CAD menu will load.

In the linux world, I would do something like strace command.com - and trace through the system calls. How can that be accomplished in AOS?

I had the same result as Dave.

Thanks, I'll look in to it.

IF I can get it working, assuming it's not user error, mana on the wiki, for anyone else.

I had a learning experience.

Logged in as admin user and install Virtualbox 7.2 (was on 7.1)

Started Virtualbox, no VM.

After a bit of back and forth, I had to user powershell to generate a new UUID, then change the UUID in the .vbox file.
Then re-register the VM.

Virtualbox, was apparently upset that the UUID of the VM was already registered, even though it was not showing in the inventory, upon starting after the upgrade.

IDK, your mileage my vary.

General Discussion / What do you use for screen captures?
« on: August 16, 2025, 03:25:23 am »
Under Windows, I usually just WINDOWS-Shift-S - cut the section of screen I want and past it in to apps like email or wordpad.

What's my best bet for similar use in OS/2 / AOS?

I played with DOS=LOW/HIGH, I even commented out all the LOAD statements in the autoexec bat.

No change, I did discover, if I tried to do DOS Window Session I was told the screen mode wasn't support.

I generated a testlog and packaged up all of my information and sent it up to AN.

Interestingly enough - The very same configs work fine with AOS installed in VirtualBox.

Was OS/2 Source ever made available - it would be a real learning experience reading the comments.

Lars,
This gets into setting that I don't understand, these were 'configurated' right out of the box.
   1)  What should I change in which files?
   2)  Where can I most easily find documentation on the key, and value pairs accepted?
Thanks!

I've read everything no AN website, everything in /sys/doc and /sys/book.
