Programming / Re: x:\SYS\ICONS\BIGICONS\*.PNG

Hi

Or are you saying that while doing the icons, also create a 64x64 and/or 128x128 pngs?

Both. There is André's idea to include a PNG icon file on each program, which I consider good.

And I had also created 128x128 RGB icons for OS/2 that works for me (renders on the WPS desktop). Can you give those a try and let me know if those work? Remember that it would not be a surprise if I'm doing things terrible wrong.

Regards

Okay Martin

I tried your 128x128 bit icons.  At 40x40, which is what the System reduces them down to, the icons don't look good.  Icons just don;t reduce in size well with the WPS.  That is why I tried to fix as best as I can at the 4 sizes when constructing as icon.

I made a few test pngs.  Using ArcaOS's dynamic icons, these pngs reduce down extremely well.

I have uploaded a couple of pics.  One at 128x128 and one with a reduce max size of 80x80, which is the highest size limit that ArcaOS supports.  Also attached the test pngs.

I have never seen OS/2, eCS, or ArcaOS run at anything larger than a 40x40 icon.  That is why I never do anything larger than 40x40. What resolution are you running your screen at? What size is your monitor? Or are you saying that while doing the icons, also create a 64x64 and/or 128x128 pngs?

I can see no difference when running and testing with either Windows or AcraOS.

Also, this diskette has 484352 bytes of free space, according to fat32.ifs.
According to your utility, it has 485888 of free space. The difference is 1536 bytes,
which is 3 sectors/clusters. Can you check what PCDOS shows on this diskette?

I don't have an easy way right now to do that.  My desktop machine blew out a capacitor (!!) this weekend.  Scared the whole family.  Popped.  Caught fire for a few seconds.  Really freaky.  Probably the dangers of using a 10+ year old desktop machine.  But, I'll try to get it setup so I can check.  I am able to borrow a desktop machine from my work and will set it up there.

Rick, contact me at dwgras at swbell dot net

I have an old Toshiba Satellite notebook  M65-S9092 with Windows XP and eCS 2.1.  Send me your address in email and I will send it to you if the shipping is not exorbitant. I don't have the eCS installation disk because I threw them away when I moved to ArcaOS.  I haven't checked on the shipping price yet.

The battery is dead so I only use the power supply.  The right side of the screen has a few lines but is still good.  The screen is a 17 inch.

So, vfdisk doesn't support XDF disks too, and disks of "6" format having
1840 bytes per sector, differ from XDF ones. But I think, it's possible to add
support of 23 sectors * 80 tracks * 2 sides disks to vfdisk, and it should
work.

Rick the source code is here if you want to take a look.

You might want to also look at OpenWatcom for a compiler, Borland is old, doesn't support certain things easily and I don't think it works as a cross compiler.

Latest beta can can be downloaded from

ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/incoming/open-watcom-c-os2-2.0-beta3.zip

Thanks, David!  I have used Open Watcom before for my ES/1 development in IBM PC DOS 7.  Look forward to seeing it in OS/2.

Rick, I found a site that may be of interest to you.

Although I am not a programmer, I am enjoying the sharing of information you and Valery are doing.

Is it still sold? I thought, it's abandoned a long time ago...

It is listed at BMTMicro

https://www.bmtmicro.com/BMTCatalog/os2/svdisk.html

You may want to email them to see if it can still be bought and and a registration code sent.  Some of the programs they list are extremely old OS/2 programs.

I did buy ZTreeBold from them.

I know when I installed WPS security on my system, it originally wanted a floppy disk drive.  I tried VFDisk and even though the virtual drive was not drive A or B, it had no problem finding and using the Virtual floppy disk to install itselp.

Have you tried vfdisk.  Virtual floppy disk 6.0 and necessary control programs.

I sometimes wonder if our browser had the option of manually changing the browser version that is reported to sites, more sites would allow access.

Could your scan tools be of benefit to those programmers that are presently modifying and fixing bugs in the of ArcaOS when completed?  If so, this could greatly benefit the community until you have progressed further along on your kernel and operating system.

Hi Rick

What has made OS/2 so appealing to a lot of us users is the Workplace Shell.  Windows and Linux have nothing like it.  It is one of the reasons I have remained with versions of OS/2 all these years.  So long as WPS works on top of your kernal, I would be happy.  I look forward to seeing what you can accomplish.  Be sure and do away with the SIQ in your version.  Thanks again.

good to hear that doo has already another meaning...

doit is not so useful, because the parameters are verbs

do delete
do rebuild
do copy
do touch

Perhaps, anyone else has got a good idea.

I know you are trying to make it simple.  Later post indicate this is not so easy to do.  How about "makeitso"

makeitso delete
makeitso rebuild
makeitso copy
makeitso touch
