Hello

I also agreed that Arca Noae should bring a developer to the scene to finally got a modern web browser on ArcaOS. Arca Noae is the only one with resources that can help with this, the rest of the community does not generate any incomes to be directly invest on the OS.

I applaud Paul's effort, but as he says, we need someone with understanding of the OS/2 API that can connect the webengine. Even if it is younger developer that does not knows OS/2, at least hire him permanently to learn the OS/2 API in a few months.

Arca Noae strategy at first was to support OS/2 on modern hardware, but it has to change and evolve to include key software development to help people use the OS for their everyday activities.

Hello Sigurd

Great video.

Just to push the test a little bit further.

1)  Does the machine has Audio input? Maybe on the same speaker jack?
Maybe you can try it with "Digital Tape Recorder" to see if it record from an mic.  (Non USB).
1.1) If you have audio input, why don't test this Win32 (Odin) app (Spectrogram) to see if the Audio input works. I got this video playing with the app, but on a VM.

2) Do you want to try the Win-OS/2 Audio? Do you have access to the Arca Noae test site to try DTAudio? But this is experimental and maybe will make your system unstable.

Applications / Re: EXIFTool
« on: April 23, 2025, 11:16:10 pm »
Hello

Sorry to confuse more the issue.
Are there two things, the ExifTool Perl Module, and the ExifTool command line tool? Does both belong to the same project?

Because "EXIFtool_2-2.zip" (2005) is from Marcel Mueller and it is a .exe binary with it's source code.
ExifTool Perl Module (ExifTool_Perl_9-46.wpi) (2014) I have no idea how to use it.

Life got in the way for a bit, but I retried this over the weekend with the latest VirtualBox 7.1.8 but the situation is still the same. So I raised a ticket on the VirtualBox bug tracker.

Martin - Yes, just now, sorry for the delay. Here it is:  https://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/22384

Good luck with it DavidR, the tickets look very good structured with all the required informaiton. I don't have any more ideas, but please post back if there is any progress.

Hi Paul
Done - https://smedley.id.au/tmp/uniaud32.sys contains:

I tried this one on real hardware, on the Thinkpad T14s. Audio 8086:02C8 (Intel Comet Lake PCH-LP cAVS).
It did not trap and it produce sound normally. Tested with the included .wav files. Volume control is also working.
It seems to be working fine for the moment.

Hi Jan-Erik
Would he agree to that someone sign a NDA (Non Disclosure Agreement)
and either let that person remove the code or himself if we'd scramble money to do it?

At a later stage it would be interesting if Gpf Rexx could work with ooRexx 5.x

I think I contacted the author long time ago. If memory serves me correctly, the issue was that the source code of GpfRexx contains the scramble procedure of any work created with that tool. That will mean that you can de-compile any software created GpfRexx if the author releases the source code. I think he does not want to have any kind of problems with that.

Maybe with a NDA, if someone gets the source code, to open source it will be required not to include that scramble procedure and maybe change the software in a way that the scramble code is customized by any software author.

Hello Leonardo.

I updated the EDM/2 pages just to show it better and now the two versions links that I found are available:

Let me know the differences and I will try to improve the EDM/2 wiki.

Thanks Leonardo.

I think this article was on the "Developer Connection News" and I got permission to republish it.

I guess it is the same. I don't know if that version has some graphics I may be missing. I don't remember if the source was only text.

Hello Mentore.

Thanks for that. So, it means that "GpfRexx" is now "AS IS" Freeware, with no support from it's author (logically). That's good.

I have that the last version is this one:

Let me know any correction.

Thanks

Networking / Re: TCP/IP from MVDM DOS sessions
« on: April 17, 2025, 09:43:42 am »
Hello SoundChaser.

Here it is something related that I tried without success:
https://www.os2world.com/forum/index.php/topic,2961.0.html

My goal at that time was to run  MicroWeb DOS web browser under a DOS VDM, but I was not able to do it. It uses mTCP and some connection between mTCP and IBM TCP/IP for DOS was required. Even the author of mTCP was here on the forums (mbbrutman), but I was not at his technical level to keep going.

Hello Dave

I added the link and uploaded the file. Later we can replace it if the new version compiles.

Guess I should fork that repository and keep better track of which commit I'm building from :)

I always prefer for the every OS/2 software ported to have it's own fork, because I can learn from the OS/2 make file :)

General Discussion / Re: EDM/2 Wiki Issue
« on: April 13, 2025, 04:33:38 pm »
Hello

It was reported today by Adrian that the EDM/2 wiki and the Netlabs Wiki are connected back to the Netlabs LDAP.

I tested it and I can log in to both with the same password:

- https://wiki.netlabs.org/index.php/Main_Page

Please test with the netlabs password that you remember.

Hello

I just got a request from a user and he wants to know the latest Apache and PHP libs port for OS/2.

My guess is:
- https://smedley.id.au/tmp/php-5.6.40-os2-20201213.zip

Is that correct?
